Kuwait takes part in Qatar meet MetLib 2016 confab opens DOHA, April 25, (KUNA): The 48th Met- ropolitan Libraries (MetLib 2016) Confer- ence, themed “Pearls in the Desert,” opened on Sunday at the Qatar National Convention Center with Kuwait participating. The conference, hosted by Qatar National Library (QNL), is the first such being held in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region; it brought together Senior represen- tatives from the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) which represents the global voice of the li- brary and information services professions. The opening ceremony gathered President of Community Development at Qatar Foun- dation for Education, Science and Commu- nity Development (QF) Fahad Al Qahtani, Director General of Kuwait National Library Kamel Al Abdul-Jalil, Director of Bahrain’s National Library at the Isa Cultural Center Dr Mansoor Sarhan, Prof Rem Koolhaas - the ar- chitect and the designer of QNL’s building, and QNL Director Dr Claudia Lux. Addressing the gathering, Dr Lux said: “We are honored that Qatar National Library has been chosen to host MetLib 2016 Qatar.” “This conference presents an extraordi- nary opportunity for the region’s informa- tion service industry and its progress towards nurturing innovation and creativity. It serves as an important platform for public and met- ropolitan libraries from around the world to exchange ideas, share knowledge and address key challenges facing the industry today,” Qatar News Agency (QNA) quoted her as saying. Al-Faisal had a long and copious history and a lofty stature on the international diplomatic and political scene, Sheikh Sabah Al- Khaled told KUNA on the sidelines of the inauguration of an international conference on the late Prince organized by King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies (KFCRIS) and patronized by Saudi King Salman bin Abdu- laziz Al-Saud. The minister added that as a diplomat, he had the chance to be close to Prince Saud in scores of regional, Arab and in- ternational events, adding that he was lucky, and honored, to work side by side with him, as he gained a lot from his long and rich experience. In addition to Prince Saud’s being a privileged diplomat, he often won great admiration for his deep literary, cultural and his- torical knowledge, he added. The late Prince employed his deep knowledge and experience so professionally and skillfully to serve the Kingdom and the Gulf states, as well as supporting and defending the Arab and Islamic causes, and the international se- curity and peace, and welfare of humankind, Sheikh Sabah Al- Khaled said. RIYADH, April 25. (KUNA): Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sa-bah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Sunday paid tribute to late Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal.
