Part 4: Reporting the ResultsStep #1) Predict 10 places on earth where there will be

a significant earthquake in the future.

Places I think are overdue with earthquakes are places on the Pacific Plate, Like California and Places along the South American plate, Australian-

Indian plate and Philippine plate.

1) California (along the San Andreas fault line)

6) North and South Korea

2) Indonesia 7) Chile

3) Italy 8) Peru

4) Greece 9) The countries on/above the isthmus of Panama

5) Japan 10) New Zealand

All based off the earthquake maps and where the earthquakes seemed to be more abundant.

Step #2) Conduct Research and Update Top Ten Hit List

Seismologists are using new techniques, like infrared pictures and InSAR satellites to forecast the next earthquakes.

1) California 6) Taiwan

2) Italy/Greece 7) Turkey

3) Indonesia 8) Papa New Guinea

4) Chile 9) Japan

5) New Zealand 10) Peru

Based on Maps and where earthquakes have been in the past decade.

Step #3) Narrow the List to the Next Big Earthquake

1) Japan

2) Indonesia

3) Taiwan

4) New Zealand

5) Chile

I choose these places because they seem to have the most earth quakes in the past decade and have had a history with

big volcanoes.

Part 4: Reporting the Results

Step #4) Questions:1) What have you learned about earthquakes and

earthquake prediction?I learned that earthquakes happen at the plate boundaries when the plates move and they cause damage to property and kill many if they are large enough. They happen everyday and they can’t be predicted exactly, but people use methods, like satellites to predict when the next big ones are going to happen.

Step #4) Questions:2) What factors influence earthquake prediction?

Earthquakes can never be exactly predicted, that’s why their so deadly, but factors like using Inferred Light and InSAR satellites and paying attention to the boundaries where earthquakes happen frequently.

Step #4) Questions:3) Where on Earth do most of the really big

earthquakes strike? Along the boundaries but most of the places I suspected to

have volcanoes had a Convergent Boundary (might just be a coincidence).
