Get Started



ArcGIS Pro for IntelligenceArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is a workstation for intelligence analysis. It consists of a managed configuration of ArcGIS Pro,

along with add-ins, geoprocessing tools, and tasks. Together, these components provide a streamlined user experience and

specialized tools for your workflows.

Note: At ArcGIS Pro 2.4, the product was renamed from ICAP to ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence.

You can do the following with ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence:

• Streamline data management and symbolization using the Batch Import tool and a custom style.

• Turn spatial queries into conditions and receive notifications when your data satisfies them in the Alerts pane.

• Visualize spatial and nonspatial relationships between entities using link charts.

• Visualize your data on a temporal axis using timelines.

• Follow tasks that narrate workflows customized to specific intelligence disciplines.

• Use the Production tab which contains tools needed to package, share, print, and export data and products.

This documentation includes step-by-step instructions for installing and using ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence. This includes topics

on each functionality described above. Additionally, there are concept topics that explore how spatial queries and link charts

can be used for intelligence analysis. On the Resources tab, you will find release notes, as well as a licensing matrix.

Requirements

Minimum system requirements for ArcGIS are listed on the Support website. Specific software requirements for ArcGIS Pro for

Intelligence are listed in the following table:

Install ArcGIS Pro for IntelligenceNote: Before you can install ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence, ArcGIS Pro must be installed and

licensed as Standard or Advanced on your computer. To ensure that ArcGIS Pro for

Intelligence supports your version of ArcGIS Pro, refer to the Requirements or

Resources tab. Additionally, Military Tools for ArcGIS and Crime Analysis provide

additional functionality and are installed with ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence..

Note: If you are installing ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence on an ArcGIS Pro-supported Windows

Server product, there is an additional registry setting, DisableMSI, you must modify for

the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence installation to complete. See Download and install for

more information.

Note: If you previously had ICAP installed and were using custom project templates or

background images in the start page, you will have to manually migrate that content

from the \Documents\ICAP\projecttemplates and \Documents\ICAP\

backgroundimage to the \Documents\ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence\

projecttemplates and \Documents\ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence\

backgroundimage folders.

Install ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence

To install the solution, complete the following steps:

1. Download ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence.

2. In your file browser, browse to the downloaded solution.

3. Double-click the .exe file to open the installer. Follow the instructions in the installer wizard.

When the installation is complete, ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence appears in your list of applications.

Install ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence silently using command line parameters

ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence can be installed without a user interface (UI) by running the setup using Windows Installer

command line parameters.

ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence installation command line parameters

The following are the command line parameters that can be used when executing ProIntel.msi. Use these with the MSI

command line options as needed. The parameters are case sensitive and should be used as defined below.

INSTALLDIR

The ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence installation location. If not specified, the installation location is %System Drive%\Program

Files\ArcGIS\ArcGISProForIntelligence for a per-machine installation, and %System

Drive%\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Programs\ArcGIS\ArcGISProForIntelligence for a per-user instance

(see the ALLUSERS property).

ALLUSERS

Defines the installation context of the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence setup, where ALLUSERS=1 specifies a per-machine install

and ALLUSERS=2 is a per-user instance. If this parameter is not specified, the installation defaults to per user.

If a user without administrative privileges attempts to set ALLUSERS=1, the installation fails.

Caution: Command line execution of ProIntel.msi will not prevent the per-machine installation of

ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence when ArcGIS Pro is installed per-user. When ArcGIS Pro is

installed per-user, you should only install ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence per-user

(ALLUSERS=2).

Perform a typical silent installation of ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence

Run the following from a command line to install ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence in the per-machine (all users) context and install to

a non-default location:

msiexec.exe /i <setup staging location>\ProIntel.msi ALLUSERS=1

INSTALLDIR="C:\MyArcGISProForIntelligence\" /qb



Note: The /qb switch provides the basic UI of the progress status and error handling; /qr

provides a reduced UI; and /qn provides no UI at all. For full details, refer to MSDN's

Command-Line Options topic.

Uninstall ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence

For Windows 7 and Server 2008, click Start > Control Panel, then Uninstall a program and select from the list the program

to be removed.

For Windows 8.1 and Server 2012, point the mouse to the upper right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down,

click Search, then enter Control Panel in the search box. Click Uninstall a program and select from the list the program to be

removed.

For Windows 10 and Server 2016, search for Control Panel in the search bar, and launch the control panel application. In the

resulting home page, click Programs > Uninstall a program and select from the list the program to be removed.

Uninstall ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence silently

To uninstall ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence silently, use the following Windows Installer command:

msiexec.exe /x <{product code}> /qb

The product code for ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is found in the registry at either HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESRI\

ArcGISProIntelligence (for a per-machine install), or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ESRI\ArcGISProIntelligence (for a

per-user install), in the string value ProductCode under the product registry key. Product codes for previous releases of ArcGIS

Pro for Intelligence and ICAP can be found in the table below.

Create a projectOnce ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is installed, you can start it and choose an ArcGIS Pro project template.

1. Double-click the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence shortcut on your desktop.

The ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence start page appears where you can create a project or select an existing project.

2. To create a project, choose one of the options in either list at the top of the start page.

• Create a project from a blank Map project template,

• Choose a custom project template, if you have any.

3. Alternatively, open ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence without specifying a new project. You can use the Save As dialog box to

name the project at any time.

4. Alternatively, to work on an existing project, click a project in the carousel.

To remove a project from a carousel, right-click the project and click Remove Project from carousel.

5. Alternatively click the Open another project button and browse to a project on your computer or portal.



Import and symbolize dataThe sections below include steps that may be required to import, convert, and symbolize data in your project. These steps

organize your data in a common format, helping to ensure success in subsequent workflows.

Connect to data sources and add data to a map

It is likely that your data comes from a variety of sources. The following steps outline how to connect to these data sources,

organize them, and add the data to the map. If you need to convert your data to feature classes, see the next section.

1. In the Catalog pane, right-click Folders to add a folder connection.

From here you can browse to the location of your source data.

2. If your source data is in a file geodatabase, right-click the geodatabase and add it to your project.

Note: Adding a geodatabase to your project does not change the location where the data is

stored. To do that, copy the feature classes from your source data to the default

geodatabase for the project.

3. To add your source data to the map, click and drag it directly from the catalog, or click Add Data and browse to the location

of your data.

Batch import data

It is common for data to be provided in formats such as KML, shapefiles, and text files. While these formats can be read

directly by ArcGIS Pro, to access full analysis and visualization functionality, these datasets must be converted to feature

classes. The Batch Import Data tool converts input data in these formats to a single file geodatabase and is included in ArcGIS

Pro for Intelligence.

Complete the following steps to convert a directory of KML, shapefiles, geoJSON, spreadsheets, and text files to feature

classes stored in a single file geodatabase:

1. On the Data tab, click Batch Import.

The Batch Import Data geoprocessing tool opens.

2. Set Input Data Directory to the root directory containing the files you want to convert to file geodatabase feature classes.

The Input Data Directory is recursively searched for the following types of files:

• .kml

• .kmz

• .shp

• .xls

• .xlsx

• .csv

• .txt

• .tab

• .geoJSON



• .gpx

Files of type .xls, .xlsx, .csv, .txt, and .tab must contain latitude and longitude columns with entries in decimal

degrees to convert to feature classes. The columns must be named one of the entries below.

• Longitude

▪ x

Note: For layers with source data that was originally in KML, KMZ, shapefile, or geoJSON file

format, symbology is extracted from a layer file (.lyrx or .lyr); otherwise, default

symbology is applied. The layer file must have the same base name and be located in

the same folder as the associated file. For .kml, .kmz, and .geoJSON files, an

additional underscore and the geometry type must be appended to the .lyr or .lyrx

file. Files of type .xls, .xlsx, .csv, .txt, and .tab will be converted with default

symbology.

3. Set Input File Geodatabase to the existing file geodatabase where the output feature classes will be stored.

4. Run the tool.

Note: You can also use the Table To Features menu to choose from a variety of tools that

convert tabular data with longitude/latitude coordinates to output feature classes.

The outputs are added as layers to the map within a group layer named Batch Import <timestamp>, where <timestamp> is

the time the tool was run.

Symbolize data from the Intel.stylx file

Browse the Intel.stylx file or use MIL-STD-2525B Change 2 Symbol ID Codes to symbolize your data.

The following steps outline how you can symbolize your data once you add it to the map.

1. In the Contents pane, select the feature layer with the symbology you want to change.

2. Open the Symbology pane, either from the Appearance ribbon or by right-clicking the feature layer in the Contents pane.



3. Set the symbology to Unique Values and click any symbol icon to access symbols from the Intel.stylx file.

The Format Point Symbol dialog box appears, displaying the Gallery.

4. Choose an appropriate symbol from the Gallery and do the same with each value in the feature layer.

5. To symbolize features based on their 2525 B Change 2 Symbol ID Codes (SIDC), switch the renderer to Dictionary in the

Symbology drop-down menu.

6. Choose MIL2525C_B2 from the Dictionary drop-down menu.

7. Under Symbology Fields, match the sidc Dictionary Field to the field in your layer that contains SIDCs.

The symbols will now render according to MIL-STD-2525B Change 2.

8. Under Text Fields, match the Unique Designation Dictionary Field to the field in your layer with text information, such as a

unit name.



ArcGIS Pro for IntelligenceTasks



Data TasksData Tasks contains workflows for adding, editing, and managing your data in ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence. Access task items

from Tasks on the Data ribbon.

Add Attachments

This task includes workflows for the following:

• Add Attachments to Data - Enable and add attachments to your data.

Import Data


• Configure a basemap - Add different basemap types to your map.

• Ingest Layers - Use the Add Data dialog box, Text to Features pane, Table to Features geoprocessing toolset, and the

Batch Import geoprocessing tool to import data in many different formats into a target geodatabase. Note that the Text to

Features pane requires the LocateXT license.

• Symbolize Layers - Modify the symbols used to represent data in your map.

Time Enable your Data

• Time Enable your Data - Identify time fields in your data to access the Time Slider and Timelines.



Analysis TasksAnalysis Tasks contains workflows for analyzing suitability, non-spatial relationships, and visibility. Access task items from

Tasks on the Analysis ribbon.

Map Asset Ranges


• Map Range Rings of SIGINT Assets - Use the Distance and Direction pane to interactively draw ellipses and range rings

around SIGINT assets.

Blind Spot Analysis


• Blind Spot Overlay with starting and ending times - Use the Blind Spot tool to create a time-enabled series of overlay

polygons that highlight gaps in coverage over time.

Drop Zone Slope Analysis


• Drop Zone Suitability - Map suitable areas for drop zones using the Drop Zone Suitability geoprocessing tool.

Helicopter Landing Zone Slope Analysis


• HLZ Raster Function - Map suitable slope regions for helicopter operations.

Link Chart


• Create a Link Chart - from a layer in the Contents pane.

Off-Road Mobility Slope Analysis


• Off Road Mobilility - Conduct off-road mobility analysis, also know as Cross-Country Mobility or CCM, using the Slope and

Remap raster functions.

or reference grid. Running this task requires an ArcGIS Pro Advanced license.

Project Customization



Customize project templatesWhile ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence comes with domain-specific tasks, styles, and tools, you may want to create your own project

template, with maps, layers, and tools specific to your organization. You can configure ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence so your

customized project templates and background image appear on the start page.

Note: If you previously had ICAP installed and were using custom project templates or

background images in the start page, you will have to manually migrate that content

from the \Documents\ICAP\projecttemplates and \Documents\ICAP\

backgroundimage to either the \Documents\ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence\

projecttemplates and \Documents\ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence\

backgroundimage folders if ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is installed Per User or to

C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcGISProForIntelligence\

projecttemplates and C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\

ArcGISProForIntelligence\backgroundimage folders if ArcGIS Pro for

Intelligence is installed Per Machine. The Per Machine paths may be different

depending on where ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is installed.



Create a project template

If you do not already have a project template, complete the following steps:

1. In ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence, in the Save As group on the Production tab, select Project Template.

The Create Project Template pane appears.

2. Choose Save Template to File, and provide information in Item Details for the project template.

3. When you have filled in the necessary parameters, click Analyze to check for errors.

4. If the pane validates without error, click Run to create the project template.

Add custom project templates to the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence start page

To incorporate the created project templates, so they appear in the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence start page, use the following

steps:

1. If ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is installed Per Machine, browse to the install folder C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\

ArcGISProForIntelligence\projecttemplates; this path may be different depending on where ArcGIS Pro for

Intelligence is installed. If ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is installed Per User, browse to folder \Documents\ArcGIS Pro

for Intelligence\projecttemplates located in your user profile.

2. Copy your project templates into this folder.

3. To replace the default icon that appears next to your project templates on the start page, copy a .png file into the same

folder.

For these files to appear, the icons must have the same names as the project template files, including the .aptx file

extension. For example, if your project template is named IntelTemplate.aptx, your icon must be named

IntelTemplate.aptx.png.

The optimal resolution for .png files is 32x32 pixels.

4. Close and restart ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence for the changes on the start page to take effect.

Your custom project templates appear with the default templates in the Project Template section of the start page.

One of the most impactful ways you can customize ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is to change the startup screen's background

with one that represents your organization. This gives the end user a visual queue that they are working in an application built

with them in mind. Making a backgound for your organization is not difficult but does require a little planning, patience,

creativity, and a basic image editing application (like Microsoft Paint 3D or TechSmith SnagIt Editor). The general process is

outlined below, but depending on your skill and patience you can expand this to make something truly unique! To replace the

start page background, complete the following steps:

1. Determine the resolution of your target display.

For most current LCD displays you may see a recommended resolution of 1920 x 1080.

2. Create a new image in your image editing application, using a canvas size that matches the resolution of the target display.

3. Set a background color, insert your organization's logo, and add other sketches/drawings/elements to the image.



4. Save the image as a png (Portable Network Graphics) file in a local folder.

You will want to make a few images as samples to test the best placement of the elements in your image.

5. Choose one of the png files and rename it background.png.

6. If ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is installed Per Machine, copy background.png into the folder C:\Program Files\

ArcGIS\ArcGISProForIntelligence\backgroundimage; this path may be different depending on where ArcGIS Pro

for Intelligence is installed. If ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is installed Per User, copy background.png to the user profile

folder \Documents\ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence\backgroundimage.


The start page background reflects your changes once ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence loads.

• The chosen background image will stretch to fit the Startup Screen window. If you change the size of the window the image

will stretch to fit it, and may look "squished".

• The resolution of the chosen image will also impact how it looks on the display. Higher resolution (300 dpi) will look better

than lower resolution (96 dpi) especially on large displays.

• Logos will look best in the upper left or upper right corners of the image, as the project template and project carousel will

take up the middle of the image.

User override of Per Machine customization of ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence start page

When ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is installed Per Machine, i.e. installed for all users on the machine to use, the custom

background image and project template files discussed in previous sections appear in the start page for all users on the

machine. However, there may be instances where an individual user would like to have a different background image or project

templates displayed on the start page then those displayed for all other users. To "override" the Per Machine customization,

follow the steps below.

1. Browse to the Documents folder in your user profile.

2. Within the Documents folder, create a folder named ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence.

3. Browse to the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence folder.

4. Within the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence folder, create a folder named backgroundimage and

projecttemplates.

5. Copy the background.png file that you want to use instead of the file installed to the Per Machine installation location, to

the \Documents\ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence\backgroundimage folder.

6. Copy the project template and project template icon files that you want to use instead of the files installed to the Per

Machine installation location, to the \Documents\ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence\projecttemplates folder.

Timelines



Overview



What is a timelineA timeline is a way to visualize your data along a temporal axis. Timelines complement the spatial view of your data in the map

by showing where in time your data falls. By plotting your data along a timeline, you can understand the temporal order of your

data and discern temporal trends that emerge. When combined with time enabling your map and using the time slider, a

timeline gives a complete view of your temporal data and can enhance contextual understanding.

Data can be plotted on a timeline if time has been enabled on the layer in the Layer Properties dialog box. This data can have

either a single time stamp, in which case it appears as points along the timeline, or a start and an end time, in which case it

appears as a linear time span. Data that does not have a location assigned to it can also be plotted along a timeline. A timeline

can contain multiple layers from the same map, and unique values within a layer, allowing you to view multiple aspects of your

data along the same temporal axis. These layers can be viewed in the same horizontal lane, or in distinct lanes, giving you a

matrix by which you can compare features through both time and their category, or lane.



Create a Timeline



Create a timelineTo add a timeline to your ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence project, complete the following steps:

1. On the Analysis tab, click the Timeline button.

The Timeline and Timeline Properties panes open.

2. Ensure that the layers you want to add to the timeline are time enabled and in the same map.

a. Right-click each layer in the Contents pane and click Time Properties.

The Time tab of the Layer Properties dialog box appears.

b. Define either a single time field or two fields that represent start and end dates for each layer.

Note: Timelines can visualize many layers at once, but all the layers must be in the same

map. The first layer you add to the timeline determines the map it references.

3. Add time-enabled data to your timeline.

a. In the Timeline Properties pane, click Add Layer, and use the resulting drop-down menu to add layers to the timeline.

b. Click Apply to see the full extent of your layers in the timeline.

Note: When layers are plotted on the timeline, the temporal extent of the timeline will

dynamically match the first and last time stamp from all layers. Additionally, layers

with a single time stamp will plot on the timeline as points, whereas layers with a start

and end time stamp will plot on the timeline as points with a horizontal bar that

represents the length of the time span.

Note: The symbology of points on the timeline matches that of the features on the map,

except in the case of graduated symbols, proportional symbols, and unclassed

colors, which are not supported.

4. Optionally configure ToolTips for your data on the timeline. In the Fields section of the Timeline Properties pane, choose a

field to display in a ToolTip for each layer on the timeline.

5. Repeat the steps above and click Apply to add more layers to your timeline.

Clicking Apply resets the timeline to the full extent of the layers.

Explore data in the timelineNavigate through the timeline

Once you create a timeline, you have multiple options, outlined below, for zooming in and out of different temporal extents.

• When you click Apply, the timeline shows the full extent of your data. The labels used for this full extent are dynamic and

depend on the temporal length between the first and last time stamp on the timeline. You can also click the Full Extent

button or the Full Extent option in the Time Scale drop-down menu to navigate to the full extent of your data.

• In addition to full extent, you can use the Time Scale drop-down menu on any timeline to view your data in fixed amounts of

time. For example, the Week view showcases one week on the timeline. When you choose a time scale from the drop-down

menu, the temporal extent will begin just before the first time stamp in your layer.

The time scale options are as follows:

• Minute

• Quarter-Hour

• Hour

• Day

• Week

• Month

• Year

• Decade

• Full Extent

• To zoom to a specific temporal subset of your current view, click the Zoom button on the Timeline toolbar. Then, click and

drag in the timeline to zoom to a specific extent. Time scale labels update dynamically as you zoom.

• If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, you can use it to zoom in and out on the timeline. Unlike the Time Scale drop-

down menu, this function will zoom based on the location of the pointer. Time scale labels update dynamically as you zoom.

In addition to zooming in and out, you can also navigate horizontally along the timeline as follows:

• To pan horizontally on the timeline, click the Pan button on the Timeline toolbar. Then, click and drag to the left or the right in

the Timeline pane to pan forward or backward in time.

• If data exists beyond the current extent of the timeline, use the Previous Feature and Next Feature buttons to skip to the

time stamps of these features. These buttons are located on the toolbar in each timeline.

Investigate data in the timeline

In addition to navigation, you can investigate details and query features in your timeline using the following controls:

• Click the Select button on the Timeline toolbar to select features in the timeline. Click and drag the pointer to select features.

The selection is dynamic across all views of your data in your project. From a selection, you can click the Zoom to

Selection button to zoom the timeline to the selected extent.

• Click the Clear Selection button on the Timeline toolbar to clear any current selection in your project.

• When you click the Pan button, you can click any feature in your timeline to view the pop-up for that feature.

• Hover the pointer over a feature in the timeline to view the tooltip for that feature. This can be configured in the Timeline

Properties pane.

Note: Timelines honor any active definition queries set for a layer.

Expand and collapse lanes

Timelines provide an alternate mode where you can expand the timeline into multiple horizontal lanes that are stacked on top

of each other. Features are split into different lanes in a variety of ways. First, features are split into lanes based on their layer.

Additionally, you have the option to create lanes that are based on unique values in the field of a layer. Follow the steps below

to split your timeline into multiple lanes.

• Click the Enable Lanes button on the Timeline toolbar to split features into layer-based lanes. Click and drag the pointer to

select features. The selection is dynamic across all views of your data in your project.

• Click the Properties button on the Timeline toolbar to open the Timeline Properties pane.

• In the Fields section, choose a category field, which will create a new lane based on that field in a layer.

• Click Apply to update the timeline.

Timelines and the time sliderTimelines and the time slider both deal with temporal aspects of data, and these components complement each other in

ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence.

The time slider appears whenever a layer in a map is time-enabled. You can time enable a layer on the Layer Properties

dialog box. The time slider allows you to animate the map over time as the time slider progresses. When you animate the map

through the time slider, you are applying a temporal filter to your data on the map. Additionally, when you time enable your

data, a contextual Time tab appears, where you can set various parameters pertaining to the time slider.

To use time-enabled data with a timeline, you need to create a timeline and choose the layers you want visualized on it. The

time slider is a dynamic tool in a map, while a timeline is a stand-alone project item that you can share with others in your

organization. Filtering a map using the time slider and filtering a timeline are two distinct processes.

To perform other types of filters on data in a timeline, you can use a definition query, accessible on the Layer Properties

dialog box.

Note: Definition queries impact the visibility of your data across all views, not just the timeline.



Manage timelinesWhen you create a timeline, it is stored in a folder in the Catalog pane. To manage timelines in your project, do the following:

1. In the Catalog pane, expand the Timelines folder.

All the timelines that currently exist in your project are listed.

2. Open, rename, or delete timelines.

• To open a timeline, double-click the timeline in the Catalog pane.

• To rename a timeline, click the timeline in the Catalog pane to select it, and click it again to activate the text box. Then,

type a new name.

Note: By default, timelines are named after the map that the timeline references, for

example, Map - Timeline 1.

• To delete a timeline, right-click the timeline in the Catalog pane and click Delete Timeline in the resulting context menu.

Alternatively press the Delete key.



Share a Timeline



Export a timeline as an imageTo share your timeline, you can export the current view as an image.

1. Create a timeline or open one in the Catalog pane.

2. On the Timeline toolbar, click the Export button.

A dialog box appears .

3. Provide a name for the image and the location where it will be saved.

The current view of your timeline is saved as an image file.



Link Charts



What is a link chartDefining a Link Chart

A link chart is a way to visualize relationships between entities in your data, and is a complementary view to the map. In

ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence, a link chart contains two main components: nodes and links. Nodes, which can be visualized as

boxes with a symbol and a label inside, represent entities, any person, place, or thing. In the data, you can think of these

entities as a row in a table. These entities have traditionally been displayed as point features on a map in ArcGIS. You can add

collections of nodes into a link chart by adding one or more layers (which are listed in the Contents pane) to the chart as a

Node Set. Links, on the other hand, are the lines that connect nodes in the chart. If a link connects two nodes, it is assumed

that these nodes have a relationship of some kind. You can add a Link Set to automatically load links that match nodes

together. You can also draw links manually between nodes.

One or Many Layers

There are scenarios in which you would only want to use one layer to create a link chart. For example, if you want to create a

link chart to represent the hierarchy of one organization, you may only need to add the node set from that one layer, and

reference links in the data between individual entities. Conversely, you may be creating a link chart to represent relationships

between two organizations sourced in different layers. In this case, you would multiple node sets, one per layer, and reference

links in the data across both layers. It may be that your data is incomplete, so once you have nodes loaded into a chart, you

can manually draw new links in a link set between any two nodes.

Duplicate Names

It may be that you know your data contains a list of uniquely named entities. However, there may be cases where distinct

entities share the same exact name, or when your data contains the same entity listed multiple times in error. For example, I

may have data where two records list John Smith as feature nodes. This could be two unique entities with the same name, or

the entries could be duplicates in the data. By default, link charts treat these nodes as unique entities, but you have the option

to collapse them if you know they are duplicate.

Link Direction

By default, links that are created simply infer a relationship between the two nodes that they connect. However, you have the

ability to enable the direction of the link, which will be rendered as an arrowhead pointing to the target node. For example, if

you know that one entity reports to, transfers to, sold to, went to, a particular person, place, or thing in the target node, you can

apply the direction to the link.



Create a Link Chart



Define Node SetThe following steps go over how to create a new link chart, and add node sets to that chart.

1. In the Analysis tab, click the Link Chart button.

The Link Chart window and Link Chart Properties pane appear. Additionally, the chart is listed in the Catalog pane.

2. Optionally rename the link chart in the Catalog pane.

3. Click the Create New Node Set button to add your first set of nodes.

A collection of parameters appear in the properties pane.

4. Type a name for your node set in the Node Set Name parameter.

5. Choose a layer from the Input Layer drop-down menu.

6. Choose a field for the Node Field parameter. This field should represent a list of entities that will be rendered by default as

individual nodes on the chart.

7. Optionally, chose a label field to represent the labels for each feature node. If you leave this field blank, the text in the field

defined in the Node Field parameter will label each node.

8. Optionally, check the Visually Collapse Duplicate Nodes checkbox. If checked, all duplicate entries in the Node Field

field will render as one node.

9. Once you have entered all the required parameters, click Save and Close and then Apply to load the nodes on to the

chart.

Individual Nodes will load in the link chart. The symbology of the nodes will be based on the symbology of the source layer.

You can override these settings in the Symbology section of the properties pane.

Note: Edits to the link chart data sources, such as adding new features, updating feature

attributes, or deleting features are not automatically synced to the link chart; you must

click Apply on the Link Chart Properties pane or the Refresh button located in the

link chart view pane to sync these edits. The time the link chart has been last synced

is displayed in the Current as of label in the link chart view pane.

10. Optionally, continue adding more collections of nodes by clicking the Create New Node Set button and repeating the above

steps. You can add as many node sets as you want, so long as they are all sourced from layers in the same map. For

example, you can have a link chart that contains node sets from multiple layers, and node sets from the same layer with

different fields defining the feature nodes.

11. Optionally, if you want to edit the parameters of any existing node collection, click the Edit Node Set button on any node

set to activate the parameters. Make your changes, click Save and Close, and click Apply to update the chart.

Node Symbology

By default, nodes are symbolized with the same symbology as their corresponding features. The following section outlines how

to override this setting for node sets.

1. In the Nodes tab of the Link Chart Properties pane, click on any node set and click the Symbology icon.

The Symbology view opens for the node set.



2. In the drop-down menu, choose Single Symbology.

To go back to using map symbology, choose Map Symbology in the drop-down menu.

3. Click on the icon next to the Symbol parameter to activate the symbol gallery, and choose a symbol for the nodes in the

link chart.

The symbol gallery will show all point symbols from all the styles in a project. If you want to use custom symbology for

nodes in the link chart, add those symbols to a new style in the project.

4. To edit the properties of the symbol, click again on the symbol and choose the Properties tab. From here, you can edit the

properties of the symbol.

5. To edit the properties of you label, expand the Node Label section of the properties pane.

6. By default, the node frame is displayed for all nodes. You can turn this off in the Node Frame section.

7. Click Save and Close and Apply to save your changes.



Define link setAs you load node sets in the link chart window, you can manually add links between nodes. Alternatively, you can auto-

populate your chart with links by defining link sources using the Links tab of the Link Chart Properties pane. The following

sections outline these two options.

Define Link Sources

1. To auto-populate links in the chart, click the Links tab in the Link Chart Properties pane.

You must already have defined at least one node set in the Nodes tab.

2. Click the Create New Link Set button to add your first link set.

A collection of parameters appears in the properties pane.

3. Type a name for your link set in the Link Set Name parameter.

4. Choose a node set in the Source Node drop-down menu. This list is generated from the list of node sets in the Nodes tab.

5. Choose a node set in the Target Node drop-down menu.

This can either be the same or a different node set than the Source Node parameter. If it is the same, make sure you

choose a different field for the following Field parameter.

6. Expand the Key Fields section and choose a field from the source node set in the Source Key Field parameter.

7. Choose a field from the target node set in the Target Key Field parameter. In order for links to render, the entries in the two

field parameters should map to each other.

8. By default, all links that are auto-generated are rendered as simple lines. You can override the default symbology settings

of the links by clicking on the Symbology icon after you save and close.

9. Once you have entered all the required parameters, click Save and Close and then Apply to load the links on to the chart.

Links between nodes will load in the link chart. You can edit the symbology of the links in the Symbology tab.

Note: Edits to the link chart data sources, such as adding new features, updating feature

attributes, or deleting features are not automatically synced to the link chart; you must

click Apply on the Link Chart Properties pane or the Refresh button located in the

link chart view pane to sync these edits. The time the link chart has been last synced

is displayed in the Current as of label in the link chart view pane.

10. Optionally, continue adding more link sets by clicking the Create New Link Set button and repeating the above steps. You

can add as many link sets as you want, just make sure that the data in the field parameters for each collection of links

match up with each other.

11. Optionally, if you want to edit the parameters of any existing node collection, click the Edit Link Set button on any node set

to activate the parameters. Make your changes, click Save and Close, and click Apply to update the chart.

Draw Links

1. To manually draw links between feature nodes in the link chart window, choose the Draw Links button in the Nodes and

Links group in the Link Chart tab of the ribbon. Note that you need to choose an existing link set from the drop down menu

for which these links will be added.



Note: It is possible to add a Link Set without key fields. The new Link Set will be empty but

ready for new links to be added.

2. In the link chart view, select a node in the link chart and drag your cursor to another node to draw a link. Continue as

necessary.

Add Link Labels

You can add labels to links by following the below steps:

1. Click on the Select tool in the Link Chart tab and then double-click on the link that you would like to label.

A cursor is activated where you can type text along the link.

2. Type a label for the link and repeat these steps as needed.

Link Symbology

By default, links are drawn as solid gray lines with arrowheads pointing at the target nodes. To change any of the link

symbology properties, follow the steps described below:

1. In the Links tab of the Link Chart Properties pane, click the Symbology button for the link set you want to edit.

The Link Symbology pane opens for the link set.

2. This is where you can edit the Color, Line Width, Dash Effect, and Enable Arrowheads To Target Nodes properties for

all links.

3. Edit the properties of your link labels in the Link Label section. Link labels are displayed by default.

4. Click Save and Close and Apply to save your changes.



Interact with a Link Chart



Navigate the Link ChartOnce you've successfully created a link chart with nodes and links, you can navigate, select, and move nodes. These buttons

are primarily located in the Link Chart tab, which appears when a link chart is active.

• Explore tool—Use this tool to pan around the canvas of the link chart.

• Rectangle Zoom tool—Zoom in to a particular area of a link chart by clicking and dragging in the chart extent.

• Fixed Zoom In button- Zoom in a fixed distance by clicking this button.

• Fixed Zoom Out button-Zoom out a fixed distance by clicking this button.

• Full Extent tool—Zoom to the full extent of the link chart.

• Select tool—Use this tool on nodes or links to select them individually, or select several nodes and links in the chart.

Selected feature nodes update the selection on the map. When you're in select mode, you can also move nodes and links

around the chart. To move multiple nodes at once, make sure they are all selected, and then click and drag on any of the

selected nodes to move them all.

• Clear button—Clears the current selection across the application.

• Draw Links tool—Add links between feature nodes in the link chart. Click on any node and drag to draw a link to another

node.

• Selected items button—Zoom to selected features in the link chart.

• Lock button- This button allows you to lock the link chart so that you can no longer rearrange the chart layout, expand or

collapse ends, draw links, label links, or move nodes and links. When a link chart is locked, you can still make selections and

use the explore tool.



Visualize the Link ChartOnce you create a link chart, there are a variety of ways to arrange the nodes and links. First, you can select and move nodes

and groups of nodes in the Link Chart window. You can also use the Change Layout drop-down menu in the link chart, to

control specific formats that the link chart can take. The default option is to arrange links in a Clustered format, which is useful

for illustrating generic relationships between entities. However, you can also choose from the following format options:

• Circular—Illustrates relationships in a circle.

• Hierarchy—Illustrates hierarchical relationships from top to bottom.

• Organic—Simple view of relationship visualization.

• Radial- Illustrates relationships in a curved hierarchy.

Many of these formats may be effective in illustrating relationships in your data, or one format may be the best choice. Finally,

you can use the Collapse Ends and Expand Ends tools to remove and add peripheral nodes, one level at a time. All of the

actions described above in this topic will persist as long as you keep the pane open. To close the link chart while persisting the

layout, use the Lock tool.

Change the link chart layout

To change the layout of a link chart, do the following:

1. Open or navigate to a link chart.

2. In the Link Chart window, click the Change Layout drop-down menu and choose one of the formats.

The format of the link chart is updated. You can click Full Extent to view the full extent of the newly arranged chart.

Move nodes and links

To manually move nodes and links in a link chart, do the following:


2. In the Link Chart tab, choose the Select tool and click individual nodes and links to edit their position. Alternatively select a

group of nodes and links and click and drag to edit the position of the entire selection.

Lock the Link Chart

To save the location of nodes and links, you can lock a link chart:


2. In the Link Chart tab, click the Lock button.

When a link chart is locked, you can still pan around the chart and make selections, but you can no longer move nodes and

links, draw links, expand or collapse ends, or switch the layout of the chart.

3. To unlock the link chart, click the Lock button.

Display links on the map

Use the Display Links On Map button in the Link Chart tab to show a graphic overlay reflecting links between features.



1. Create a link chart or open an existing one.

2. Click the Display Links On Map button on the Link Chart tab.

3. Click on the map view pane containing the link chart data sources.

Graphic overlay lines appear on the map between all nodes that have a link in the chart.



Link Chart AnalysisLink Chart Analysis

Two buttons on the Link Chart tab allow you to conduct analysis on your chart. The following sections explain these tools.

Shortest Path

This tool calculates the shortest path between nodes. To use this tool complete the following steps:

Note: More then one shortest path may exist. To see all paths run the All Paths tool.

1. Choose the Shortest Path tool in the Analyze group of the Link Chart tab.

The tool is activated.

2. To select a source node, right-click on a node, and click Mark as Source in the resulting context menu.

The source node is highlighted in green.

3. To select a target node, right-click on a node, and click Mark as Target in the resulting context menu.

The target node is highlighted in red.

You can mark as many source and target nodes as you want. To mark multiple nodes as either source or target, make sure

those nodes are all selected first. You can also mark the same node as both source and target, in which case it will highlight

in orange.

Note: By default, the path is calculated factoring in directionality. To toggle directionality on

or off, right-click on the link chart and click Directional.

4. As you mark nodes as sources and targets, a blue line will highlight dynamically showing you the shortest path between all

nodes.

Note that all nodes along the shortest path between source and target will also highlight in blue.

5. To clear the results, click again on the Shortest Path button.

The tool is deactivated.

All Paths

This tool calculates all of the paths between nodes. To use this tool complete the following steps:

1. Choose the All Paths tool in Analyze group of the Link Chart tab.

The tool is activated

2. To select a source node, right-click on a node, and click Mark as Source in the resulting context menu.

The source node is highlighted in green.

3. To select a target node, right-click on a node, and click Mark as Target in the resulting context menu.

The target node is highlighted in red.

You can mark as many source and target nodes as you want. To mark multiple nodes as either source or target, make sure

those nodes are all selected first. You can also mark the same node as both source and target, in which case it will highlight

in orange.



Note: By default, the paths are calculated factoring in directionality. To toggle directionality

on or off, right-click on the link chart and click Directional.

4. As you mark nodes as sources and targets, a blue line will highlight dynamically showing you the all the paths between the

source and target nodes.

Note that all nodes along all paths between source and target will also highlight in blue.

5. To clear the results, click again on the All Paths button.

The tool is deactivated.

Select All in Path(s)

While the analysis results are displayed, you can create a selection from the results by right-clicking the chart and clicking

Select All in Path(s). All nodes and links associated with the analysis results are selected.



Manage link chartsYou can manage existing link charts in the Catalog pane of your project.

1. In the Catalog pane, click the Link Chart button to expand the list of link charts.

2. Optionally double-click a link chart to open it.

3. Optionally click once to select a link chart, and click again to activate the text box to change its name. Then, type a new

name.

4. Optionally right-click a link chart and click Delete in the resulting context menu to delete it. Alternatively press the Delete

key.



Share a Link Chart



Export Link ChartYou can export a link chart to a GraphML file (.graphml), an image file (.png), or a Xml Paper Specification (.xps) file on disk.

1. Create a link chart or open one from the Catalog pane.

2. In the link chart tab, click the Export Link Chart button.

3. In the Save As dialog, select the type of file to save, provide a file name, and location where the file will be saved.

Conditions and Alerts



Introduction to conditionsIntelligence analysts often need to understand the spatial relationships between activities and key locations. These activities or

incidents can represent a wide variety of phenomena, and key locations can represent coordinate locations, or lines or areas of

interest. ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence includes a set of spatial queries that can help you understand these relationships. These

queries can be turned into conditions, which persist with parameters specific to a certain data set. When you create conditions

from these spatial queries, you can access them from a single location, the Conditions tab in the Alerts pane, and run them

repeatedly.

When your data meets the parameters you set for a condition, you will receive an alert. This alert displays in two places. First,

you'll receive a message. This message appears as long as ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence is running; you do not have to actively

be working on it. Second, in the Alerts pane, a record (or records in the case of Point to Point) of the alert appears in a list.

You can review this alert to view the time stamp, pan, zoom, and select records in your data that triggered the alert.

Conditions vs. geoprocessing tools

Spatial queries, such as the conditions available in ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence, also exist in ArcGIS as geoprocessing tools.

However, setting conditions centralizes these queries in one location. Additionally, the parameters you set persist, so the

conditions can be run multiple times. Finally, with conditions, you receive a notification when your data satisfies a spatial query.

Recurrence

Analysts often work with data that may frequently change over time. This data may update manually or automatically. To

understand the data as it changes, you may want to query it multiple times. In ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence, you can schedule a

recurrence for one or many conditions. For example, you can set conditions to run once per hour, day, or week. This allows

you to transition to other work knowing that your data is queried on a regular basis.

Create Conditions



Create a conditionYou can create a condition and run it, and optionally set a recurrence.

Create a condition and run it

To create a condition and run it, complete the following steps:

1. Click Alerts on the Data tab.

The Alerts pane appears.

2. On the Conditions tab, click Create New, and choose a preconfigured condition.

The condition appears on the Conditions tab in the Alerts pane.

3. Provide a name and parameters for the condition. When choosing input feature parameters, do one of the following:

• Click the drop-down arrow in the input box to choose a layer in the Contents pane.

• Browse to the source feature class

Mandatory parameters include an input feature layer and a distance measurement and unit. Optional parameters include

the query builder, where you can specify the condition to search through subsets of your layers.

Note: At this time, feature services must be added to conditions as feature layers; you cannot

browse to the source service layer.

4. To manually run conditions when you are ready, select one or more conditions and click Run Conditions.

Set a recurrence

You can set a recurrence to automatically run the condition at specified dates and times.

1. On the Recurrence tab in the Alerts pane, click New.

2. Provide the start and end date and time parameters.

For example, from October 1 at 10:00 am to November 1 at 21:00.

3. Choose the conditions you want to include in the recurrence from the drop-down menu.

4. Optionally rename the recurrence.

5. Turn on the recurrence.

The specified conditions will begin running on a recurrence.

Note: When you open a project that contains an enabled recurrence, the recurrence will

begin to run from the time the project was opened.



Recieve Alerts



Analyze alertsWhen you run conditions, either manually or through a recurrence, you'll receive an alert if your data satisfies one of the

following conditions:

• If a condition cannot be successfully run, an error message appears.

• If a condition triggers an alert, the alert appears in a message.

• If a condition runs successfully and does not trigger an alert, no alert occurs.

Once alerts have been triggered, you can explore the features that triggered alerts.

1. On the Alerts tab in the Alerts pane, double click an alert and pan and zoom the map to the extent of the features that

triggered the alert.

Those features also flash on the map.

2. Optionally right-click an alert and click Select to select the features that triggered the alert on the map.

3. Optionally right-click an alert and click Attributes to open the Attributes pane.

The Point to Point condition may return multiple alerts each time it is run. If an alert is triggered more than once, a new

alert will not appear in the Alerts pane. Rather, a number will appear on the existing alert indicating the number of times the

alert was triggered.



Manage alertsUse the Alerts pane to manage alerts.

Search and filter alerts

To manage your list of alerts, you can search and filter them as follows:

• To search for an alert, use the search bar on the Alerts tab.

• To filter an alert, click the Filter button on the Alerts tab.

Delete alerts

To delete alerts, follow the steps below.

1. On the Alerts tab in the Conditions pane, select one or more alerts.

2. Click the Delete button and confirm you want to delete the alerts.

Adding Additional Functionality to ArcGIS Pro for IntelligenceIntroduction

This topic describes how to add additional functionality to ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence by creating new Add-Ins.

The two use cases described are:

1. Add Functionality to the Add-In tab

2. Add Functionality to a new tab

In all of these cases, you will start with a new Visual Studio Project created from the ArcGIS Pro Module Add-in template. See

Build your first add-in for a tutorial on how to create an ArcGIS Pro addin. For information on how to install or upgrade the

ArcGIS Pro SDK for .NET see ProGuide Installation and Upgrade.

For the use cases described in this topic, I've created a new Visual Studio Project based on the ArcGIS Pro Module Add-in

template and named the project and solution MyAddin and have added an ArcGIS Pro Button named Button 1 with

id="MyAddin_Button 1".

Note: Id's across all daml files must be unique. To obtain a daml that references everything in

ArcGIS Pro and the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence configuration, edit the shortcut that

opens ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence and on the target property append

/dumpcombineddaml. The target should look like the following:

"C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Pro\bin\ArcGISPro.exe"

Double-click the shortcut and when ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence opens, a text editor with

Add Functionality to the Add-In tab

The simplest way to add functionality to the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence Configuration is to add your functionality to the Add-In

tab, which only requires you to set the appearsOnAddInTab attribute to true on the <group> tag containing the control or

controls you want to appear in the Add-In tab, as shown in the following Config.daml snippet:

Save and build the solution. The Button 1 control displays on the Add-In tab along with all other ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence

ribbons in the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence configuration.

Add Functionality to a new tab

To add functionality to a new ribbon that will appear in the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence configuration you need to do the

following within your addin Config.daml file:

1. Set a dependency on the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence Configuration Add-In by referencing its AddInInfo GUID Value, in this

example {43ea84e4-7b44-4d76-80ba-44095ba768b4}, in the Dependencies section of your Config.daml file as

shown below:

2. Add a new tab to your addin where the id value starts with ArcGISProForIntelligenceConfiguration and is unique

across all addins. In the following snippet, I'm defining a new custom tab with an id of

ArcGISProForIntelligenceConfiguration_NewTab:

Note: As defined above, the tab will be inserted as the first tab. Use the insert and

placeWith attributes to define the specific location to place the tab.

3. Add the group(s) that you would like to appear in this tab. In the following snippet, I'm adding the MyAddin_Group1, which

references the button MyAddin_Button1:

4. Set the appearsOnAddinTab attribute value on the group(s) you are including in the custom tab to false.

Note: If you don't set this attribute to false on all the groups referenced within this new tab,

the "Add-In" tab will still be created in addition to your custom tab.

tabs in the ArcGIS Pro for Intelligence configuration.
