Architectural Elements as Subject-Matter Architectural elements are the unique details and component parts that, together, form the architectural style of houses, buildings and structures. You will be creating an artwork featuring your original design for a composite capital inspired by the three traditional orders from ancient Greek architecture. In general there are three basic types of column capitals in ancient Greek architecture, which are, doric, ionic and corinthian. Sometimes this list is extended to include other versions of the basic three, of which the two most common are tuscan and composite. You will create an original design of a composite capital and create an artwork that includes your design. Follow the guidelines listed below to create your artwork. Take a photo of your work and create a google doc or word doc to give the required information about your artwork. You may insert your photo/s in the doc or you can send it separately. Email completed work to my email, [email protected] and you must put Architecture Part 2 and your name in the subject line. Due May 1, 2020, 11:00pm Research the Greek orders View example images in the included document, remember that these are just a variety of examples to show the possibilities and the variety of approaches. Do NOT copy these images. Artwork specifics and details Must be a minimum of 8x11 inches Sketch out your original design for your composite capital. Remember that the composite capital is generally a combination of the basic three capitals. You MUST include your composite capital design as the primary subject matter in this artwork May be color or black/white, you may use a specific or limited color scheme/harmony palette May use any medium, pen, pencil, crayon, paint, pastel, colored pencil, cut or torn paper, cut paper, etc May include other subject-matter with the architectural elements. For example you might decide to include people, animals, vegetation, text, patterns, shapes, inanimate objects etc I suggest not just leaving “the background” all blank. Consider your mark making and ways to use your media This work can be completed in any “style”. For example it could be very expressive or it might be very controlled and detailed. Maybe you decide

➔ What is the title of this work (yes….. I want you to give it a title:) ➔ What style or art movement do you feel your artwork reflects? Maybe

it is a combination, or just hints at period or technique. Explain (this answer should just be in your own words, it does not need to be “flowery” words or technical. In other words it is ok to just explain the “vibe” you feel your work displays.
