SPEAKERS

Andrew Winston, founder of Winston Eco-Strategies, is the author of Green Recovery, a strategic plan for using environmental thinking to survive hard economic times. He is also the co-author of Green to Gold, the best-selling guide to what works – and what doesn’t – when companies go green.

Andrew is a globally recognized expert on green business, appearing regularly in major media such as The Wall Street Journal, Time, BusinessWeek, New York Times, and CNBC. Andrew is dedicated to helping companies both large and small use environmental strategy to grow, create enduring value, and build stronger relationships with employees, customers, and other stakeholders. His clients have included Bank of America, Bayer, HP, Pepsi, Boeing, and IKEA. Andrew also sits on the Sustainability Advisory Board of the Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

Andrew bases his work on significant in-company business experience. His earlier career included advising companies on corporate strategy while at Boston Consulting Group and management positions in strategy and marketing at Time Warner and MTV. After these more traditional roles, Andrew pursued his passion to explore the overlap between business and environment. He served as the Director of the Corporate Environmental Strategy Project at Yale’s renowned School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

Today, Andrew is a highly respected and dynamic speaker, reaching audiences of thousands of people around the world and acting as a practical evangelist for the benefits of going green. He also writes extensively on green business strategy, including a weekly column for Harvard Business Online, regular pieces on Huffington Post, and a monthly strategy e-letter, Eco-Advantage Strategies. For his efforts, Andrew was recently named a “Planet Defender” by Rock the Earth.

Andrew received his BA in Economics from Princeton, an MBA from Columbia, and a Masters of Environmental Management from Yale. He lives in Greenwich, CT with his wife Christine and two young sons.

Angela ClarkeProject Purchasing director

As Director of Project Purchasing for Marriott’s Select Service and Extended Stay brands, and with over eleven years experience in purchasing for Marriott, Angela has both the skill and the network to make smart purchasing decisions. Angela’s leadership has provided Marriott owners and franchisees with millions of dollars in savings on hotel FF&E. Responsible for managing $150M in annual procurement volumes working with new build and renovation projects, Angela and her team work with investors to create the look envisioned at the right price.

Carlota TullochSenior director, Interior design

An eighteen year Marriott associate, Carlota Tulloch works to develop brand standards and renovation requirements for the entire CFRST renovation program. Playing a significant role in the development of the CFRST New Build and Renovation website, Carlota worked on a team responsible for developing renovation criteria, creating a new “look and feel” for the site, and establishing the process by which users will take advantage of this site and use it as a resource. A graduate from Washington DC’s Mount Vernon College with an Interior Design degree, Carlota began her design career with CHK Architects and BDL.

david WalshSenior director, Project Management

David Walsh, Senior Director of Project Management for Marriott’s CFRST Brands has sixteen years experience in the construction and management business. A member of Marriott International‘s Architecture and Construction team for more than seven years, David brings both valuable expertise and customer-oriented communication skills to this group. Responsible for numerous projects simultaneously, David oversees project information requests and submittals. He serves as the final review on all construction documents for compliance with brand standards and criteria. A graduate of the University of Maryland, David began his career with Clark Construction, gaining eight years of construction knowledge. In 2002, David was acknowledged for his outstanding service and motivation, receiving Marriott’s A&C Distinguished Service Award.

As Vice President of Product Development for Marriott International, Deborah is responsible for all product development decisions for Marriott’s Select Service and Extended Stay brands including Courtyard, Fairfield Inn & Suites®, Residence Inn®, SpringHill Suites®, and TownePlace Suites®. She also leads the creative and innovative effort behind Marriott’s groundbreaking LEED Volume Program.

Jim KoutrisVice President, Renovations

Vice President of Renovations for Marriott’s Architecture and Construction Division (A&C), Jim is responsible for the renovation and conversion of Marriott’s Select Service and Extended Stay hotels throughout the United States. Jim’s experience and knowledge of the industry assist him in successfully overseeing a staff of design professionals with a capital budget exceeding $200M annually. A dedicated associate, Jim has been with Marriott International for more than seventeen years.

Katherine HammesSenior director, Courtyard Refreshing Business Implementation

As Senior Director of Courtyard Refreshing Business Implementation, Katherine Hammes is leading the development, execution, and comprehensive process for supporting the Courtyard reposition effort for all 700+ hotels in the continental US and Canada. She partners with A&C, F&B, Operations, Training, Finance, and Brand Management to ensure successful renovation and implementation of CYRB. Katherine joined Marriott in 1996, but from 1999-2008, she worked as the Director of Training and Development for McKibbon Hotel Management, Inc. She holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Wesleyan College, and was a former Chairperson for the Training Franchise Advisory Council for Marriott International and member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Robert C. WiblePrincipal and Founder, Robert Wible and Associates and Manager, Projects, Alliance for Building Regulatory Reform in the digital Age at FIATECH

Over the past eight years for the Alliance, Robert Wible has written and produced a number of technical materials, model enabling legislation, model procurement requirements, and several guides designed to promote regulatory streamlining and effective uses of information technology in the building regulatory process. He has assisted state and local governments in identifying and undertaking administrative and regulatory streamlining to improve government effectiveness and efficiency. Mr. Wible has published numerous articles on IT and streamlining, including the International Code Council’s Building Safety Journal’s December, 2008 feature article: “Keeping Building Departments Ahead of the Curve”, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s “Guide to More Effective and Efficient Building Regulatory Processes Through Information Technology”, and a recent white paper “From Paper to Digits – Steps to Move Your Plan Submittal, Review, Tracking and Storage into the Digital Age”. From 1977 through 2005, he worked for the National Conference of States on Building Codes and Standards, Inc. (NCSBS), serving as its Executive Director from 1984 through 2005. Prior to 1977, Mr. Wible served as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer in India and Nepal. In 2007, McGraw-Hill Company released his latest book, Architectural Security Codes and Guidelines: Best Practices for Today’s Construction Challenges.

John Bauerdirector, design Management

John Bauer serves as Director of Design Management for the Product Development of Marriott’s CFRST brands. He oversees design initiatives and design standards management, including prototype drawings and specifications, building product development, and change management. He is responsible for concept and prototype development for numerous projects, including Courtyard Refreshing Business and the Fairfield Design & Décor Initiative. He is also the AHLA contact for accessibility issues. John has worked for Marriott International for 24 years. Prior to Marriott, he attended Tulane University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Architecture. John is LEED AP certified, is a recipient of A&C’s Distinguished Service Award, and works on the City of Gaithersburg Planning Commission.

Karim KhalifaSenior Vice President, CFRST design and Project Management

Mr. Khalifa, Senior Vice President of Design and Project Management, oversees product development, new build construction, and renovation for Marriott’s Select Service and Extended Stay lodging brands. He works with an operating budget of $10M and a staff comprised of more than 60 professionals. Prior to his current role, Karim led the opening of the Marriott Architecture and Construction office in Frankfurt, Germany and was responsible for extending Marriott’s brands into Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. As a member of Marriott International’s Executive Green Council, Karim is a green advocate for the company and actively participates on many green panels at leading industry events. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, and prior to his career at Marriott, he managed Parsons Latin American Consulting office in Lima, Peru.

Kurt Millerdirector, Project Management

Kurt Miller, Director of Project Management, oversees renovations for Marriott’s CFRST brands. He coordinates project management efforts from initial site surveys to design approval, bid process, procurement and implementation for hotels renovations across the country. Kurt was also responsible for program development and system wide roll out of the new Courtyard Refreshing Business lobby initiative. He earned his B.S. in Construction Management from Utica College of Syracuse University and his A.O.S. in Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America. Before joining Marriott in 2007, Kurt was Vice President of Austin Grill, Inc., an 8 unit regionally based restaurant chain.

gregg LoveManager, Interior design

Gregg Love, Interior Design Manager for Marriott International’s CFRST brands, brings over 20 years of interior design experience with him. While his focus is on new builds, he also works on select renovation projects and he worked on the rollout of the Courtyard Refreshing Business Program. Before joining Marriott in 2007, Gregg owned his namesake design firm, The Love Design Group, and worked as Director of Interior Design for the Foreign and Commonwealth division at the British Embassy in Washington, DC. He earned his B.A. in Interior Design from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and is NCIDQ and LEED AP certified. Gregg is an ASID and IIAD member and is a licensed interior designer in the District of Columbia and Florida. He has also appeared as a featured designer on HGTV’s “Curb Appeal”.

Marisa Scintodirector, Interior design

Marisa Scinto, Director of Interior Design oversees new build and conversion projects for all of Marriott’s CFRST brands. In her role, she and her team assist owners in creating on strategy projects for each of the five select service brands. Prior to joining Marriott in 2000, Marisa worked as an Interior Designer at design firms Brennan Beer Gorman Monk / Interiors and Elias Design Group in New York City. Marisa earned an M.S. in Project Management from George Washington University, a B.F.A. in Interior Design with a Minor in Environmental Design from Parsons School of Design, and a B.A. in Arts & Culture from the New School for Social Research. In addition, she is NCIDQ (National Certification for Interior Design Qualification) certified and an ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) member.

Michael Pozdoldirector, Estimating

With more than eleven years of estimating experience specific to the construction industry, Michael is responsible for all estimating efforts for Marriott’s Full Service and Select Service / Extended Stay hotels throughout North America. Managing a diverse team of estimators, Michael oversees prototype cost development, feasibility estimates and budget reviews, detailed cost estimates, budget guidelines, historical cost maintenance and analysis, as well as brand initiative cost management. Before joining Marriott International, Michael worked with ONCORE Construction, LLC gaining valuable experience in estimating, business development, and project management. Michael earned his BS in Civil Engineering from The Catholic University of America, as well as his MBA from the University of Maryland. He is a recent recipient of Marriott International’s prestigious Distinguished Service Award.

Rich LeahyManager, Interior design

Rich Leahy, Interior Design Manager, works on Marriott’s CFRST Renovations Interior Design Team. Rich has worked on all of the CFRST brands, but is currently focused on the rollout of Courtyard Refreshing Business. Rich played an active role in the design and development of all FF&E and Design Guideline Drawings for the Courtyard Refreshing Business Program. He earned his B.S in Interior Design from the University of Maryland, College Park and has been with Marriott International for over 4 years. Rich boasts 27 years of interior design experience in the residential, commercial, healthcare, retail and hospitality industries.

Rob ReindersVice President, New Build Projects

Rob Reinders, Vice President of New Build Projects for Marriott Architecture and Construction (A&C), oversees design and project management for Marriott’s Select Service and Extended Stay brands. Managing an ongoing pipeline of several hundred projects simultaneously, including 100+ new construction and several hotel openings a month, Rob has seen the successful completion of more than 1,000 projects in his 22+ years with the company. A licensed architect, Rob’s extensive knowledge and expertise are supported by his passion for design.

Stacy WelchSenior Manager, Risk Management

Stacy Welch, Senior Manager of Risk Management, oversees fire protection and life safety as it relates to renovations, Property Improvement Plans, and Marriott’s annual fire inspection and audit program, which performs nearly 1,000 inspections annually using 20 inspectors. In addition, she is involved in new build and conversion projects, and supervises all fire protection and life safety work for Marriott’s new Autograph Brand. Prior to joining Marriott 13 years ago, Stacy earned her Fire Protection Engineering degree from University of Maryland, College Park. She is a licensed Professional Engineer, and a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).

Mary Lee RoebuckSenior director, FF&E Product development and Quality Assurance

Mary Lee Roebuck serves as Senior Director of FF&E Product Development and Quality Assurance. With more than 30 years of service to Marriott International, Mary Lee focuses on the critical area of product development across all domestic brands. She works to advance Marriott’s brand initiatives and processes by delivering superior products (cost and quality) with enhanced speed to market. She also provides quality assurance expertise on specific ground-up / custom / high risk projects and oversees A&C’s Procurement commodity contracting team. Mary Lee fully leverages her tremendous capabilities in this area to improve Marriott’s ability to deliver on our product development investments and manage Marriott’s product development and quality assurance efforts.

Scott BouchardManager, Projects

Scott Bouchard, Project Manager for Marriott’s CFRST brands, manages franchised ownership accounts through project approval, design, and construction for new builds and conversions. Before joining Marriott International in 2007, Scott worked at Winter Street Architects, Inc. and Steffian Bradley Architects, Inc in Massachusetts. He earned his B.S. in Architectural Design from Clemson University, is LEED AP BD+C certified, and is a member of the Project Management Institute.

Thomas PhillipsManager, Code Compliance for Property development, Target Corporation

As Code Compliance Manager, Mr. Phillips manages, develops and coordinates programs, processes and strategies for code compliancy throughout Target Property Development and over 1800 Target Brand Properties. He ensures that there is a consistent application of code related requirements throughout the new store, remodel and operation programs, and coordinates and drives training programs that maximize team member and consultant interpretation of governing building code regulations. Jefferson ThomasSenior Manager, design

Taking a leading role in Marriott International’s green initiatives, Jefferson is responsible for the development of Marriott’s LEED Volume Program, working in conjunction with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). A LEED accredited professional and registered architect, Jefferson has been instrumental in providing design expertise to Marriott projects targeting LEED certification. Sharing his technical understanding and knowledge of green design, Jefferson has spoken at several leading industry conferences and events. He holds an M.A. in Project Management from Keller Graduate School of Management, as well as a B.A. in Architecture from Virginia Tech.

Terry Smith,Vice President, Engineering and Technical Services

Terry Smith, Vice President of Engineering and Technical Services, is responsible for managing Marriott International’s Engineering and Technical Service Group. He oversees five staff engineers and out-source consultants responsible for design and construction review and oversight on new build, due diligence surveys, and conversions of Marriott owned, investment, and/or managed properties worldwide. Terry also manages the group responsible for developing, maintaining, and producing approximately 40 Design Standards for all Marriott brands. In addition, he is a resource for Ritz-Carlton Hotel projects, a technical resource for operating hotels, and performs energy studies to validate pro-forma HLP costs for Feasibility, and property energy audits. Prior to joining Marriott International, he worked as Vice President of Southland Engineers. A graduate of James Madison University, Terry is affiliated with many organizations, including the Association of Energy Engineers (ASSE), the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA).

What are the dates of the A&C LiNK Conference?The program begins with your arrival on Tuesday, December 7th in time for the General Session at 11am. The A&C LiNK Conference concludes on Wednesday, December 8. Please refer to the agenda page for detailed event information.

What meals are included?Food & beverage served at the official events is included as part of your conference attendance. Any food & beverage purchased outside of these functions will need to be paid for by the attendee. This includes, but is not limited restaurant, bar, lounge & room service charges.

What is the dress code?Business casual (sport jackets are not required) for meetings and resort casual attire for Tuesday evening.
