ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO 3 [ARC 2116]Project 3 : GENIUS LOCI: VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTRE (VIC)
My thinking about the site (Pulau Jerejak)-Pulau Jerejak had been famous for detention of leprosy patient and there is quite a few quarantine centre was built.-People who step into this island must be fill with feeling of separation and hopeless.-People that staying in the Pulau Jerejak can always see their homeland (Pulau Penang or others) but they cannot reach there.-They are hoping someday they may walk through the darkness to the light source, guidance to the hope.-People inside the detention camp was used to the long corridor alongside with the opening of small cabin.-Inside the small spaces there is always an opening to let the only light source come into the cabin.

Poetic SpacesInterior space:
The slits of glass panel allow the light source to go through the wall into the spaces. The shadow and light effect will play on the VIC ‘s visitors as they walk through the long ramp.
A huge light source coming from the two end of the building giving people hope and guidance to walk through the building.
Design Strategy•Ramp – Convenient for old people (disabled)
•Glass Block – Giving the full view around the site
•Linear form – Smooth flowing of the experience inside the VIC
•Glass slits – Penetration of light
Public gathering space and cafeteria, expose to the environment outside, contrast compared to other spaces.
Characteristics of My Design Model •Different feeling at different view port.
•Feeling of little hope(light) in contrast with dark spaces within the model.
•Alternate path instead of just one way trip.
•50 % exibition hall, 20 % public gathering space, 10 % cafeteria, 5% W/C,5% souvenir shop, 10% utilities.

BASIC BUILDING DESIGN
Ventilation Opening facing North-West and South-West is designed for catching the wind
Building Material Roof and wall insulation is added to minimise heat gain
Fenestration Constrainted openings of extreme north and south
Sun control There is no heat reflected around the site.
Landscape Vegetation shading to restrict direct sunlight.
Section A-A
Green roof, or rooftop garden, is a vegetative layer grown on a rooftop. Green roofs provide shade and remove heat from the air through evapotranspiration, reducing temperatures of the roof surface and the surrounding air.It maximise radiant cooling.

Precedent Study
Strasbourg Cathedral by Jacques-Francois BlondelThe light that comes in from the clerestory window and rose window create shadow on the path.
Glass House by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
Fully glass furnished buiding provide better view.
Slits house by Eastern Design OfficeThe light came in from the thin slits between walls.
