GO BIG - GO STUDY2012 • SOPHOMORE STUDIO
LOCATION:MOSCOW, IDAHO
PROGRAM:STUDY PAVILION
This study pavilion, located on top of paradise creek on the University of Idaho campus, is designed to help students study through abrupt environmen-tal change and the asso-ciation they have with the stimulation of the this environment. Inspired by Pavlov’s unconditioned
response experiments, this pavilion is designed to have an obvious and imme-diate change from wood and other common materials to a stark white, the white promoting organization and focus. When a student studies in this white room they progressively become conditioned to the asso-ciation of this stark white atmosphere with studying. Once this reac-tion becomes a learned response, this makes a great place for students to return to when they need to zone-in and get work done.

NATURE IS NURTURE2012 • SOPHOMORE STUDIO
LOCATION:MOSCOW, IDAHO
PROGRAM:MOSCOW’S MAINSTREET FOLLY ESCAPE
Sitting in an opportune location at the entrance of town, next to the University of Idaho campus, and also neighbor-ing Gritman Medical Center, this Folly is designed to mimic the rolling hills of the Palouse and provide a
serene environment for people to relax and com-mute through. As one walks through it’s expanse, light moves through the many slats, similar to light in a forest. The patterns are reflected in the pool below. The park is buffetted by Pine and Aspen trees surrounding the site. The site stands as an icon at the entrance of Moscow and draws the public to the southern end of Main Street providing its visitors, and Gritman patients with a peaceful environment to sit down, relax, and enjoy the Moscow air.

URBANIZING NATURE2012 • SOPHOMORE STUDIO
LOCATION:PERSONAL HOMES
PROGRAM:CHILDREN’S PLAY SPACE
Many kids can’t go out and enjoy playing in the woods so the design goal is to bring these experiences to them through textures, patterns, and forms from nature. This children’s play space emulates nature
with the atom shape, natural materials, and Fibonacci sequence repeti-tion in the ladder for a branch like effect. It also incorporates a con-trast of the modern urban world within the struc-ture, an interactive, touch board computer. An intensive study on how children use space found that children’s play spaces must be transi-tional, customizable, interactive, child size, and in places, divided.

WRITER'S BLOCK2013 • JUNIOR STUDIO
LOCATION:LAKESHORE IN THE NORTHWEST
PROGRAM:CONCRETE MASONRY DESIGN CHARRETTE
This was a two day Design charrette for a study on concrete masonry units. The challenge was to design a
small writer’s cabin retreat with few ameni-ties: a sink, fireplace, outhouse, bunk, and writ-ing desk. This was pre-sented to a firm in boise and my project was selected as the best design to utilized con-crete masonry blocks effectively, affordably and still achieved a modern aesthetic.

only appeal to an environ-mentalist, but become popular to the everyday person. Creating this balance socially is extremely important to our world and our attitudes are definitive of what will come next.
BIOGRAPHY
I grew up in the small town of Grangeville, Idaho and because I didn’t have the luxuries of a city I learned to take advantage of the vast wilderness around me. My greatest inspiration comes from nature, as you will see in some of my works, and as a young person I realized we need to work with nature
rather than work against it. As a designer, my goal is to use my creative talents to make green design more accessible and acknowledged among common society. We can use archi-tecture as an engineering poetry, creating modern design by combining high function with high style. I want designs that not
