Design in a way that encourages exploration and sustains a sense of energy. Capture that part of the human condition that wants to know what’s next. The energy of a place is what truly makes it enjoyable to experience, and what makes it come alive.
Far too much of our built environment is emotionally silent. An overarching characteristic of good architecture is its ability to evoke emotion, much like music. The music of a quality space- its melodies, harmonies, rhythms and discords, invites us to explore our own thoughts and emotions.
Oversaturating a singular project with ideas is just as detrimental as leaving it devoid of all thought. True architecture insists on focus. The focus is that which brings people together and allows them to fully experience the beauty of our existence.
Positive emotion, namely joy, is critical to maintain a high quality of life. For many architects, this is achieved through our career as well as interests not necessarily related to architecture.The joy I feel in painting, drawing, and sketching has subconsciously reivigorated my pursuit of art, architecture, and design.
