Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1527 -1593)
• was an Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books
• was born in Milan in 1527• His father, Biagio, was also a painter • Did stained glass window designs,
frescoes(wall painting) and drew the cartoon for a large tapestry for Cathedrals
• Was the official artist and Master of Festivals for three successive German Emperors. Arcimboldo designed costumes, stage settings, chariots, and other diversions for courtly events and ceremonies.
• was best known for his fantastical “composite head” paintings. These were portraits composed of objects such as fruit, flowers, books, or even a plate of meat.
