Are E-Cigs A Passing Craze?

Or are they here to stay?

Most “Vapers” Know the History of this relatively simple device…

The E-Cig as we know it traces its history to 1963

O It was in 1963 that a fellow named Herbert

A. Gilbert was issued the patent on his

“smokeless non-tobacco cigarette.”

O But, it wasn’t until 2003 when Hon Lik, a

pharmacist from China was credited with

creating the first real e-cig.

This is a photo of the original image from the patent in 1963:

There is no shortage of information about e-cigs

O Sites abound, such as Fryeart.org and

literally thousands of others who inform

the public about electronic cigarettes.

O There are dozens of companies now

selling electronic cigarettes.

O There are now “vaping clubs” or lounges

where people who use e-cigs can hang

out together (sort of like cigar lounges

are).

It has spawned an entire culture and community

O Like-minded individuals enjoy the vaping experience.

O The ever-growing popularity of vaping has meant an ever-growing number of product variations.

O In 2012, sales of e-cigs increased to 3.5 million (from 50,000 in 2008) (Source: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/health/story/2012-08-18/electronic-cigarettes-smokeless-vaping-risks/57121894/1)

If you read financial newsletters…

O You would discover that several large “Big

Tobacco” companies have acquired some

of the larger e-cig companies.

O Lorillard (Newport, Old Gold) acquired blu

in 2012.

O Altria, which owns Marlboro is also

venturing into the e-cig market (Source:

Here are just a couple of different e-cigs:

O This is a popular

“V2” e-cig

O This is a popular

“blu” model

Here are a couple more:

O This is “Green

Smoke”

O This is “Bull Smoke”

Don’t forget the “E-Juice” (the nicotine “juice” that fills the cartridges)

O Here is a typical

one:

O Here’s a “flavor” set:

So… In conclusion:

I have to submit that e-cigs are NOT a passing craze. There is no way that

huge corporations would be investing in this technology if it were. It’s here to

stay.
