From Your Pastor ~ Fr. Jeff Mollner

Last week I began to talk about the 3 classical Lenten practices

of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Today I would like to talk a

little about fasting. Saint Josemaría Escrivá said that “fasting

allows the soul to fly.” Fasting is the practice of purposely going

without food or enough food in order to make the body feel

hungry. It is both a physical sacrifice we offer up, but also a

physical reminder that we were not made only for this world. The

Church requires fasting on two days during Lent; Ash

Wednesday and Good Friday. For members of the Latin Catholic

Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age

59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as

well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full

meal.

I would like to take a moment to thank all the members of

our Winter/Spring Fest Committee for putting on a

wonderful dinner last weekend at the Wayne City

Auditorium. Thanks to the hard work of Bob and Tracy

Keating , Brett and Janel Kramer, and Greg and Patsy

Kallhoff the whole day was great success.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED !!!

Thanks to all of the parishioner households who so generously participated in this year’s Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, our parish has reached its participation goal of having at least 75 of our parish households making pledges to the appeal. At the moment, 76 total households have participated, with 75 of those being parish households. This progress represents a considerable increase over the involvement levels of earlier years’ appeals. Thank you so much to all who prayerfully considered making a commitment and those whotook the step of making the commitment.

As of February 26th

, our parish is currently at $25,720 of commitments which exceeds our financialgoal of $20,448.24, placing our financial commitment level at 125.8% of our parish goal.

Of the amount committed/pledged, $15,720 was from parish households and the rest was from an anonymous donor.

If your household has not yet made its commitment, there is still time to do so. Please use the Annual Appeal form that was mailed to your household earlier, contact the parish office or Stewardship Committee for an additional form, or go online at

https://give.archomaha.org/ .

12 PROMISES OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

Given by Jesus to St. Margaret Mary to those who keep a

special devotion to His infinite love shown through His

Sacred Heart. Jesus asks us to receive Holy Communion

on the 1st Friday of the month, spend time with him in

adoration on Thursdays (to remember his time in the

garden of Gethsemane), display images of His Sacred

Heart in their homes, and consecrate your families to His

Sacred Heart.

1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of

life.

2. I will establish peace in their homes.

3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions.

4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in

death.

5. I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their

undertakings.

6. Sinners will find in my Heart the source and infinite

ocean of mercy.

7. Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.

8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.

9. I will bless every place in which an image of my Heart is

exposed and honored.

10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most

hardened hearts.

11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their

names written in my Heart.

12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that

my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive

Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive

months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die

in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments.

My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last

moment.

Confirmation Mass

Reception to follow in Holy Family Hall

Congratulations Mary Joy Vargas on completing your 1st

grade prayer book!

From the desk of your Youth, Campus &

Adult Lay Minister - Amy Woerdemann [email protected]

I would like to ask for your prayers. I am going to Denver

March 4-10 with Fr. Mark Beran, Dylan Reinhardt (FOCUS

Missionary) and 20 college students. We are going to spend an

entire week working with an organization called Christ in the

City. Christ in the City is a Catholic non-profit dedicated to

forming missionaries, volunteers and communities

in KNOWING, LOVING and SERVING the poor. We will

begin each day with mass and prayer and then spend the rest of

the day getting to know those who live on the street. Many of

the chronically homeless are ignored, feel beaten down by life

and have broken spirits. We spend a week simply talking to

them, showing them compassion and letting them know that they

are loved. “To be loved is to be known” ~ St. Theresa of

Calcultta

If you have time please watch the video that Christ in the City

created: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bfq2xppoHDE

Here are a few ideas if you ever encounter someone who is

homeless:

1. Ask the person’s name. Many homeless people will go

months without ever hearing their name spoken.

“Many people talk about the homeless but few

talk to them” ~St. Theresa of Calcutta

2. Offer a handshake. It will break the barrier and let

them know you recognize their dignity.

3. Give goods – not money. Socks, Gatorade and water

are welcome commodities. By not giving money

you are thoughtfully showing compassion and

that you care in other ways.

4. Offer soft food. Many of the chronically homeless

have teeth problems so softer foods are

preferable.

5. Offer to pray for them and mean it. “More things are

achieved through prayer than this world dreams.”

~ Tennyson

The only cure for a lack of love is LOVE. That is the primary

mission of our trip to Denver. It is our prayer that everyone on

the trip will open their hearts and be able to truly love everyone

that they encounter. We want to love like Jesus.

Thank you everyone for all of your prayers!
