You are on a first date. Conversation is flowing. Your eyes sparkle. You are engaged in the moment. “Ohh” you say to yourself – “this person is my future spouse!”
So enthused are you that you are ten steps ahead of the conversation. In your head, your spouse is now walking the dog while you tuck the baby into bed.
You post to Facebook “OMG, amazing date, we’re going to get married.”
You declare “You are the one for me!” All of a sudden, your date turns pale, has a sudden stomach ailment and immediately flees the premises.
Whoa, what just happened? You are dismayed and in shock. You immediately Facebook your tale of woe to a sympathetic audience and “out” your date.
Why are we telling you this story?
This incident resonates because it describes a parallel process that candidates repeat while job interviewing.
You may have never acted this way on a date, but you may have acted this way on a job interview.

Let the hiring manager take the lead.
Interview the hiring manager; you don’t know if you want this job yet.
Give Specific Examples• You become more memorable. • It is easier to remember the details of a story than broad
statements about your ability.
Don’t interrupt the interviewer
It says you are more important than the hiring manager.
You have more ears to listen than mouths to speak… so use them.
Don’t over share via social media
A future employer may be looking.
Your future boss may see negative comments & unprofessional behavior.
Always have a clean profile. Employers may make hiring decisions based on what they see.
