Are You Thankful for What You Have? Gratitude is a word used to express thankfulness and
praise. A general attitude of thanksgiving in both the trials and
blessings of life distinguishes the Christian. The apostle Paul
exhorts us in Scripture to give thanks for all things, in all
circumstances (Eph 5:20; 1 Thess. 5:18), even in suffering
(Rom 5:3-5 ; James 1:1-4), and to do everything in the name of
Jesus out of a spirit of gratitude (Col 3:17). On the other hand,
thanklessness marks godless and wicked men who suppress
the truth about God (Rom 1:18-21).
As a believer, we can have peace and joy through prayer
and gratitude. When we pray and give thanks to God, even
when it's hard to, we are promised to be given grace and faith.
There are many Bible verses to inspire gratitude in your own
heart. Read over these during Thanksgiving or anytime of the
year to strengthen your joy.

Mission Statement
Where the Bible comes
alive through worship,
prayer, study and
fellowship while serving
others with love and
respect.

Why is being thankful to God important? It just makes you happy Being thankful helps you to think more about other people's feelings — this is called empathy (being able to see things from another person's view). Being thankful also helps you get through life's tough times, because you can easily call to mind all the good things in your life.
A Prayer for Gratitude Dear God,
Thank you for your amazing power and work in our lives, thank you for your goodness and for your blessings over us. Thank you that you can bring hope through even the toughest of times, strengthening us for your purposes. Thank you for your great love and care. Thank you for your mercy and grace. Thank you that you are always with us and will never leave us. Thank you for your incredible sacrifice so that we might have freedom and life. Forgive us for when we don't thank you enough, for who you are, for all that you do, for all that you've given. Help us to set our eyes and our hearts on you afresh. Renew our spirits, fill us with your peace and joy. We love you and we need you, this day and every day. We give you praise and thanks, for You alone are worthy!
In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Food Safety Certification Course
by Sandra Kurtz
On October 1, Kissinger’s Church hosted a Food Safety Certification course offered by the Reading Berks Conference of Churches. The course was presented by the PA Department of Agriculture. There were 40 in attendance, including Ruth Graul, Dave Kauffman, Art Kurtz and Sandy Kurtz from Kissinger’s who attended as a refresher course. Refreshments were served with the instructor pointing out that our church used the proper equipment to serve food and remarked about the soda and water that were placed in plastic bins that were not covered with ice. (Covering cans or bottles with ice is a no no!) Our church can be proud as several of the people taking the course wanted to come into the kitchen and see our appliances. There were comments on how nice our kitchen was and some even took pictures. There were even comments made about our Pastor Dave Reinwald, as some had him sing at their church. (We will share but they cannot keep him.)
New AA Group Meets at Kissinger’s
You may not be aware of it, but there has been a Saturday morning Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) group meeting at Kissinger’s on Saturday mornings at 8:15am. Recently, an additional weekly meeting time has been added on Thursdays at 6:30pm. This is another example of how Kissinger’s Church supports those in need by providing a place for them to meet and work on their recoveries.

Recipe of the Month:
Butternut Squash Soup
Delicious and very easy to make. You can use 3 to 4
cups of chicken broth instead of the water and
bouillon cubes. Also works well with half as much
cream cheese if you don't want it too rich.
Ingredients
6 tablespoons chopped onion
4 tablespoons margarine
6 cups peeled & cubed butternut
squash
3 cups water
4 cubes chicken bouillon
1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese
Directions
1. In a large saucepan, sauté onions in margarine until tender. Add squash, water, bouillon,
marjoram, black pepper and cayenne pepper. Bring to boil; cook 20 minutes, or until
squash is tender.
2. Puree squash and cream cheese in a blender or food processor in batches until smooth.
Return to saucepan, and heat through. Do not allow to boil.

CHIPMUNK NEWS
Friends,
As we all know, November is the month where we take an entire day to give thanks to God for all His wonderful provisions. Unfortunately, I know of too many people who have been through hard times this year – especially those who have lost a loved one.
In a recent period of 10 days, I received sad news from numerous people that had lost family members, most of them from that insidious disease called cancer. Several of us know from experience how hard and empty the holidays can be without our loved ones, especially the first holidays.
On November 9, it will be 55 years since my father passed away. How sad and lonely it must have been for my mother to prepare a Thanksgiving meal in 1964 for just herself and her four-year-old twins, my brother Bill and me.
She told me years later how angry she was with God that He would allow my father to die. But, you see, my father had cancer as a teenager and was supposed to survive only six months with the disease. He was truly a living miracle for 29 years! A dear Christian woman pointed this out to my mother, even telling her that God had blessed her, not just with a husband, but with two sons, knowing that dad would not survive much longer. What wisdom!
If we are not careful, we can allow our pain to keep us from seeing the blessings that God has provided. Thus, we are not thankful.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
It’s okay to hurt when in dire circumstances. It’s also okay to grieve, to miss someone special. I encourage you to trust God and always give Him thanks. You see, I’ve read the entire Bible.
Everything is going to work out beautifully for God’s people. But, don’t take my word for it – take His!
Blessings, Pastor Dave
