Are You Unknowingly Blocking Your Spiritual Blessings? A Complete Guide to Understanding the Jewish Roots of

Christianity and Reclaiming Your Inheritance

How would you describe your spiritual roots? Are they rooted in the Bible, in Christ, and in faith?

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”—Colossians 2:6-7

For most of us, when we start our faith journey, God begins to peel back the layers that have been blocking the Spirit from penetrating our hearts. He wants us to recognize our sin and need for Him.

“Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever… Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.”—1 Peter 1:22-23, 25

When you start to connect to your spiritual heritage, blessings are revealed. You start to see yourself the way the Lord sees you.

We’ve all asked the questions… • Who am I? • What is my purpose? • How does God see me?

HOW DOES GOD SEE ME?

Once our heart of stone is replaced with a heart of flesh, two things happen… 1. We become heirs with Christ and are given a life of abundance. 2. We are equipped by the Spirit to carry out God’s will and purposes through our new identity.

From these two spiritually supernatural events, we can live victoriously. We are empowered to usher in the Kingdom of God. What a powerful call-ing! We have been given a gift of inheritance that is eternal. We have been given back the heritage that was once stolen and separated from us.

Now is the time to understand what that inheritance is so that you can fully walk in it.

www.curtlandry.com 4

1. You are His image bearer. “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”—Genesis 1:27

2. You are a new creation. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”—2 Corinthians 5:17

3. You are free and no longer a slave to sin. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”—Romans 8:1-2

HERE’S HOW GOD SEES YOU…

We are all in search of our true identity. Even after you are born again, the way you search for you identity changes. You now have been given a desire of God’s heart to walk in His ways because He has given you knowledge that, when you do this, you will be blessed. He then gives you the desires of your heart.

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you thedesires of your heart.”—Psalm 37:4

www.curtlandry.com 5

4. You are a co-heir with Christ. “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs— heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” —Romans 8:16-17

5. You are chosen and a holy priest. “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…”—1 Peter 2:9

6. You have the Spirit of God living in you. “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.”—John 15:4

7. You are being transformed. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”—2 Corinthians 3:18

OUR GOOD FATHER

Have you heard your parents say (or perhaps said to your own children), “That’s not the way I raised you” whenyou’ve stepped out of line?

When heard or said with a doubting heart, it can sound condemning. Yet, if you’ve said it to your own children, you understand the motive behind the statement. It grieves you to see your child make choices that aren’t aligned with what you have taught them their whole lives.

www.curtlandry.com 6

HOW OUR FATHER INSTRUCTS US

Our Heavenly Father looks at it the same way. He speaks to us, inviting us back to the roots of His biblical instruction and faith because He loves us and hates to see us feeling orphaned and cut off from His blessings—as we are forever sealed to Him by the Spirit (Ephesians 1:13).

But without even knowing it, we can step out of alignment.

Misaligned behavior does this (and we’ve all experienced it): blocks spiritual blessings.

It doesn’t mean you love them any less, nor does this misaligned behavior cancel their identity as your child.

www.curtlandry.com 7

Our life becomes more challenging and confusing. We suddenly feel guilt, shame, doubt, and unbelief.

Now, don’t misunderstand… these are not things that God gives you. But they are things He allows.

We have free will, and we must understand that when we step away from His ways, it opens the door for the enemy to walk right in and steal the peace and joy God has blessed us with. They are then replaced with lies of condemnation and fear planted by Satan.

It is for this reason we must stay aligned with God—doing His will—for our own good. So, now that we know the consequences of not staying rooted in biblical instruction, the question becomes this: “How am I supposed to do that?”

WHAT IS THE WILL OF GOD IN THE BIBLE?

As you start to explore the Jewish roots of your faith, something becomes clear; you learn about your identity in Christ, and you can better understand the biblical scriptures that guide you into the will of God.

www.curtlandry.com 8

As you learn about the Jewish faith, traditions, and culture, you will start to read the New Testament with a greater depth of understanding. The Spirit will reveal connections you never saw before.

You’ll begin to connect to:

• The Promised Land • The Jewish people • Yeshua Messiah as your Jewish Savior • A new fullness of life

These revelations, discovered as you read the Bible through a Jewish lens, begin infusing purpose and meaning into your life.

The will of God is this: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things

shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).

www.curtlandry.com 9

You can also understand His will by understanding who He is through the Hebraic words used to describe His character. Most of us only know God as the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, Lord, and Savior. But He is so much bigger than that.

Here are 7 names of God that provide greater knowledge about what it means to be made in His image. You become aware of how these characteristics are also woven into your being.

Understanding God’s Names and Character | Beyond the Christianized Lens

www.curtlandry.com 10

2. Yahweh (Self-existent, Unchanging) – Yahweh means “I Am.” The story of Moses and the burning bush reflects God’s never-ending existence (Exodus 3:13-15).

3. El Shaddai (God Almighty) – God reveals to Abraham that nothing is beyond His power or too difficult for Him (Genesis 17:1-2, Genesis 18:14).

4. El Kana (Jealous God) – God wants nothing to come before Him in our lives because when it happens, destruction is just ahead (Exodus 34:14).

5. Jehovah-Jirah (The Lord Will Provide) – God provides our every need, even those we don’t know about. God provided a sacrificial lamb to Abraham, and Isaac was spared (Genesis 22:8).

6. Jehovah-Shalom (The Lord of Peace) – The Lord gives His children peace, and God made peace with man through the death of Yeshua on the cross. Trusting and staying focused on Him gives us peace (Isaiah 26:3).

7. Messiah (Anointed One) – Yeshua Messiah was the Anointed Deliverer and Savior that came to save (Matthew 16:13-17).

Understanding these characteristics of God that the Jewish people noticed about Him also helps you see His Kingdom in a different way. And the Lord wants you to seek it first. Yeshua said, “My kingdom is not of this world…” (John 18:36).

If you are reading this and thinking to yourself, “Now I have more questions like, ‘What is the Kingdom of God, and how do I seek it?’” then you are in the right place.

7 Names for God

1. Elohim (Strong Creator) – The first thing we learn about God is that He is the creator of the world and all that is in it (Genesis 1:1).

www.curtlandry.com

If we don’t want to be swept away or sidetracked by the storm in our lives, we must remain in Christ. We must claim our identity and heritage in Him and Him alone.

Then our cup will overflow with…

• Purpose • Inheritance • Blessings

These are the things that will be given to you!

But here’s the key… Remember that you have access to all of this because of being grafted into God’s family through Israel by Yeshua.

Here’s the thing… If you are a Christian—which Paul described in Romans 11 as a wild olive branch grafted into the cultivated olive tree that is Israel, “the chosen people of God”—then the same heritage and blessings He promised Israel are also available to you.

• You are now a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree (Romans 11:17).

• You are now included in the commonwealth of Israel and brought into—no longer a stranger to—the covenant promises of God, having

the hope of God (Ephesians 2:12).

What Is Your Heritage?

11

We can learn from one of the first Believers and a disciple of Yeshua Himself… Peter. When Peter came down out of the boat and walked on the water to the Lord, what happened? He saw the wind was “boisterous, he was afraid.” He must have shifted his focus away from the Lord and to the storm around him. As a result, he began to sink. He cried out to the Lord, and Yeshua reached down and caught him.

www.curtlandry.com 12

Don’t misunderstand this message—seeking God’s Kingdom and explor-ing your Jewish roots are not a suggestion to return to law in a legal sense. Christ fulfilled the law when He was sacrificed on the cross— for now and forever. His work is sufficient and complete.

Striving to Seek the Kingdom of God

• “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God…”—2 Corinthians 3:5

What Yeshua came to accomplish in His first coming was done, and the New Covenant was ratified and irrevocably sealed through His blood. We are saved by faith, not by works. It is by being born again of the Spirit of God that we “enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5).

• “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”—Ephesians 2:8-9

www.curtlandry.com

When Yeshua was teaching the disciples to pray, His instructed them to pray, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). To understand the fullness of His Kingdom and to be ready for His re-turn, we need to understand the entirety of the two testaments and promis-es therein.

Because we are grafted into Israel, and the Old Testament and New Testament make up the one Bible, our spiritual inheritance begins with Israel. We can’t receive it without them. And the promises God made them still stand today. They can’t receive those without us.

But something happened as the Church grew. Christianity became disconnected from its Jewish origins. Again, this is not a call to return to the law to justify our faith, but as a result of this disconnect, we’ve lost the fullness of the Christian experience and why God chose to save the world through a Jewish boy named “Yeshua.”

In short, replacement theology is the idea that the true people of God—the true Israel—are no longer one of flesh but one of faith. It teaches that the Christian Church has fully replaced Israel as God’s chosen people.

It also teaches that all the promises and prophecies have been transferred from Israel to the Church, and therefore the State of Israel and the Jewish people become obsolete.

As a result, the Jewish roots were removed from Church.

If we fall victim to the doctrine of replacement theology, we lose the fullness of the two testaments and the meanings, stipulations, and promises of God’s covenants. Without that, we as Believers don’t have a place to stand and we let go of the lever God gave His Church to move the earth.

How the Jewish Roots Were Removed

14

Reading about the Jewish roots and how they have been removed takes you on a journey through Church history dating back nearly 2000 years. Reconstructing this timeline requires a deep dive into the political, social, economic, and religious history of Rome and the first-century Church. Not an easy (or quick) task.

The events that transpired and unfolded through time reveal how the Church essentially divorced its Jewish roots and became Hellenistic in nature, weaving paganism and anti-Semitism doctrine into the traditions, practices, and beliefs of the early Church.

While many have been convicted by the Spirit to become Bereans of the Word, there are just as many hindered by these paganized traditions in their faith, not fully understanding the original power and purpose God has gifted them with.

Brief Timeline of Events

15

• 66 A.D. – Paul and Peter died in Rome. During a 4-year revolt, the Jews fled to Yavneh and the Messianic Believers fled to Pela (outside of Roman rule).

• 70 A.D. – The Romans destroyed the Second Temple and killed thousands

of Jews. • 100 A.D. – Bishop Ignatius of Antioch declared, “To profess Jesus Christ

while continuing to follow Jewish customs in an absurdity. The Christian faith does not look to Judaism… it is wrong to talk about Jesus Christ and live like Jews.”

• 177 A.D. – Irenaeus declared, “… they who boast themselves as being from the house of Jacob and the people of Israel are disinherited from the grace of God.”

• 70 -135 A.D. – The Gospel spread to Gentile communities, and the influence of the early Church began shifting away from Jewish traditions.

• 306 A.D. – Constantine became ruler of Rome and made Christianity legal and the official religion of Rome in 323 A.D.

• 325 A.D. – Constantine wrote to bishops all over the Roman Empire insisting that Passover be separated from “Easter.” o “We ought not therefore have anything in common with the Jew, for the

Savior has shown us another way.”—Constantine

• 500-1500 A.D. – As the Roman Catholic Church grew, a number of believing Jews wanted to be baptized into the Church. However, many were required to renounce any connection to their Jewish roots—doing away with the Sabbath and the Feasts of the Lord.

For a more detailed timeline, check out Curt Landry’s book, Reclaiming Our Forgotten Heritage | How Understanding the Jewish Roots of

Christianity Can Transform Your Faith!

www.curtlandry.com

This cultural and religious shift over time planted seeds of anti-Semitism. Gentile Believers eventually outnumbered the Jewish Believers, and sadly, many of those Gentile Believers misunderstood this to mean that God was done with Israel.

The Church quickly forgot its Jewish roots and separated itself from the Biblical calendar. This meant no observing of the Sabbath and no celebrating of the Feasts of the Lord; further, a divide was developed between God’s eternal promises and our ability to walk in the fullness of our salvation.

• “For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.”—Romans 11:25

But what Believers at the time really failed to remember was Paul’s teaching to the Romans explaining this confusion and warning against these future events. It should have given the Church insight into how they were to think of the traditions and the Jewish people.

16

www.curtlandry.com 17

They also failed to understand the rich heritage of the following verse, which explains who Yeshua is as our Passover Lamb. This opened the door to truly celebrate this feast to its fullest! • “…For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep

the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”—1 Corinthians 5:7-8

Now that you are beginning to understand the important role that your heritage plays in claiming the promises of the Lord, it’s time to explore what is missing from your identity and purpose.

When something is stolen, especially something of great importance, you do everything in your power to reclaim it. We, as a Church, should be doing the same with our spiritual identity and purpose.

HAS YOUR IDENTITY AND PURPOSE BEEN STOLEN FROM YOU?

www.curtlandry.com

Now, the following list is not intended to “diagnose” if you will, but it can guide you into areas that may be open to spiritual attacks. Then you can start to cut off the lies and move into the truth of God— reclaiming your inheritance!

1. I have a lack of peace in my life that never seems to subside 2. I have unforgiveness in my heart that I can’t seem to overcome 3. I can’t forget my broken past 4. I am fearful and anxious over a number of things in my life 5. I am struggling with my finances and health 6. I doubt God’s purpose for my life 7. My prayers are going unanswered, and I don’t have clarity or direction

for my life

The Lord’s heart breaks when He sees His children walking around without hope and power. This happens because of a misunderstanding of the covenant relationship.

When you have a revelation of the covenant relationship you have with God the Father through Yeshua Messiah, Satan’s grip on your hope and power loosens. You begin to understand your spiritual family and eternal heritage. Covenant isn’t a word we hear much in the Church today, except in reference to ancient Israel. But those covenant promises, both for Israel and you, remain.

Walking in the Fullness of Your Salvation and Reclaiming Your Inheritance

18

www.curtlandry.com

When Satan invades our spiritual life, we become consumed with only what we see. We lose sight of the prophecies and promises that were declared throughout the Bible. We become blind to the blessings that come with the Passover, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot—the ancient feasts that our Savior not only observed but also magnified the meanings of so that we can enjoy and be blessed by them as they grow our faith.

When you begin to align your life to God’s calendar, your faith is deepened and transformed, you start to see how He is preparing you and your family for His return, and you begin to walk in the fullness of your salvation.

Below you will find excerpts from Reclaiming Our Forgotten Heritage by Curt Landry. Curt shares how he began to step into his identity and how it con-tinues to grow still today.

“One of the important aspects of walking in empowerment with the Father is making His wisdom, knowledge and understanding a priority in our lives. This means we need to carve out time to quiet our souls and to be alone with God. We need to find a quiet place to meditate and slow down as we read the Word or a favorite devotional…

ESTABLISH YOUR GOD-GIVEN IDENTITY AND PLACE OF PEACE

www.curtlandry.com 20

“We must make space for emunah, because it demands being unhurried, confident of what God has promised, and resting enough to stand in the place where we are called to be a beacon for Yeshua.” (page 188)

“Vines Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words tells us that emunah means ‘firmness; faithfulness; truth; honesty; official obligation.’

“Emunah is a state of mind, a discipline. It means to stand like a soldier who won’t leave his post… and has a complete confidence in God’s protection.” (page 184)

You see, when you start to pull away from your roots, you lose footing and open yourself up to unnecessary attacks. But when you stand firm—emunah—nothing can sway you. Your confidence isn’t in something perishable but imperishable—the God Almighty.

And He loves to see His child’s faith transformed by discovering more of who He is, who you are in Him, and the origins of your faith.

If you want to discover more about your spiritual heritage in the Jewish roots of your faith, get Curt Landry’s book, Reclaiming OurForgotten Heritage. He takes you along on his journey of discovery and shows how to can apply biblical principles of faith to your life today!

“Curt Landry’s Reclaiming Our Forgotten Heritage serves as a timely and ground-breaking take on the roots of the Christian Church and its place in the entirety of God’s Kingdom. As Landry uncovers and unwraps the discovery of his own Jew-ish heritage and history, he also seeks to do the same for the body of Christ. This book attempts to answer the questions ‘Who are we?’ and ‘Why are we here?’ from the perspective of the whole body of believers. If we ignore some of the full story, we are missing some part of our identity—and in identity, there is power, there is purpose, and there is covenant.

Reclaiming Our Forgotten Heritage provides a valuable and unique take on this situation. As the body of Christ begins to reconnect with the olive tree onto which it has been grafted and as the fulfillment of Revelation draws nearer, there is no better time than now to learn about and become firmly grounded within your spiritual heritage.”

Perry Stone, Founder, Voice of Evangelism, International School of the Word, Omega Center International, and Manna Fest, says…

“Is it possible to take the New Testament and denude the Jewish culture and get a full revelation? Of course not. But many Christians go their whole lives without all the pieces of the puzzle. My friend, Curt Landry, shows how the identity theft took place and fills in the missing pieces. Fall in love with Jesus all over again.”
