1.0 INTRODUCTION

A total of 16 km of grid establishment 18 km of total field magnetic surveying, 10 km of Large Loop TEM, 6 holes BHPEM and one drill hole were completed between March 1st and July 13, 1992. The work area straddled the Group 51 - Simax property boundary in the vicinity of Claw Lake.

The objective of the work program was to evaluate the eastern extension of the NBU-Sturgeon Lake stratigraphy focusing at the top of alteration as defined by whole rock geochemistry. Previous work had concentrated on the north dipping (SOo) structural trend associated with the Lyon Lake- Sturgeon mineralization (NBU Horizon) and the Santa Maria footwall stringer zone. The vertical extent of the alteration zone remained relatively untested.

2.0 LOCATION AND ACCESS

The Group 51 - Simax properties are located immediately east of the Lyon Lake-Sturgeon Lake mines which along with Mattabi, lie in the Sturgeon Lake mining camp located 50 km north of Ignace and 250 km northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Ski-doo or knodwell access to the properties is via old drill roads which extend from the Sturgeon-Lyon Lake mine roads. The property can also be accessed by float/ski plane to Claw Lake.

4.0 GEOLOGY

The South Sturgeon Lake volcanic belt is a north-facing, steeply dipping sequence of mixed Archean tholeiitic to calc-alkaline volcanics approximately 25,000 feet of thickness within the Wabigoon Greenstone Belt of the Superior Province. The volcanic pile overlies gneissic Archean basement and is capped by 3000-4000 feet of Timiskaming-style sedimentary rocks. Mattagami personnel subdivided this belt into several laterally extensive mappable units which have been grouped into three volcanic cycles by Franklin et a) (1977). The majority of the Sturgeon Lake area massive sulphide deposits occur within or at the top of felsic voclaniclastics that are thought to delineate the termination of the lowermost volcanic cycle.

Page 8: Area : Report No: 26 BELL LAKE WORK PERFORMED ......NOTES: (1) W9230.0052, filed DEC/92. 52Gtssweeea zs BELL LAKE NORANDA EXPLORATION COMPANY, LIMITED (no personal liability) REPORT

Relatively mild deformation has affected the South Sturgeon Lake region. The sequence is a steeply dipping, northward facing homoclinal sequence, the result of a major period of folding about an east-west axis. The fold axis of this synclinal structure lies near the north shore of Sturgeon Lake. A second mild deformation around a north-south axis produced a gradual concave arching towards the east with resultant changes in strike from 90* on the Mattabi area to 12Qo in the Lyon Lake area. A penetrative axial planar cleavage associated with the east-west axis is pervasive and partially well developed in the fine grained tuffaceous rocks.

Regional metamorphism is greenschist and locally almandine-amphibolite rank (Trowell 1964).

Within the Sturgeon Lake mining camp, three mines were put into production with some production also from the F-Group pit.

5.0 PREVIOUS WORK

The area was first examined by Mattagami Lake Mines in 1969 with an Airborne INPUT survey carried out by Questor Surveys Limited. Later, INPUT surveys were completed in the Post Lake and Harmon Lake areas north and east of the original flying. More recently, the OGS (1991) re-flew the belt using the Aerodat HEM system.

Most of the ground geophysical work was done on the property was by Mattagami Lake Exploration, which later merged with Noranda, and by Falconbridge Copper which later became Minnova.

Exploration on the Simax group was originally carried out by Santa Maria Mines which lead to the discovery of the stringer zone mineralization which was drilled by Falconbridge, Noranda and Minnova.

1969: Group 51, 84 claims originally staked after completion of the Questor Airborne Survey. Ground mag and JEM surveys were completed on reconnaissance grids over defined anomalies.

1970: Group 51 grid established and surveyed with mag and JEM. Five holes were drilled with no significant results.

1971: Radem, VLF, soils and mapping completed.

1972: Follow up Crone CEM was completed plus 5 diamond drill holes. Holes 72-9 and 72-10 intersected the NBU horizon but no mineralization present.

Drilling by Falconbridge on the Simax property following up an IP survey intersected one hole of economic (?) mineralization G.64% Zn, 2.62'*. Cu/14' (LLM-17).

Page 9: Area : Report No: 26 BELL LAKE WORK PERFORMED ......NOTES: (1) W9230.0052, filed DEC/92. 52Gtssweeea zs BELL LAKE NORANDA EXPLORATION COMPANY, LIMITED (no personal liability) REPORT

1973-74: A total of 7 holes were drilled along the NBU contact. Best results were 0.1 Tfc Zn, 1.77-* Cu/4.5' in hole 51 -14,1.45**. Zn/16.5' in hole 51 -15 andl .01 (* Cu/12' in hole 74-16.

1974-75: Mattagami optioned the Santa Maria claims and carried out IP, mag, VLF and VEM surveys. Two holes were drilled and their previous holes were deepened. In this area, the best mineralization corresponded with the IP zones.

1976: Four additional holes were drilled on the depth extent of the Santa Maria mineralization. It was found the magnetic high areas were associated with magnetite alteration which was generally sulphide poor.

1982: Two additional deep holes were drilled on the J. Hinzen model of a proximal volcanic contact.

1983: An additional deep hole (51-26) was drilled.

1985: Hole 51-27 was drilled but appears to have stopped short of the alteration zone.

1986: Minnova drilled 9 close spaced, shallow vertical holes on the Santa Maria block. No significant results.

7.0 INSTRUMENTATION

7.1 Magnetometer Survey

The survey was undertaken with the Scintrex MP-3 proton precession magnetometer. Measurements of the earth's total geomagnetic field (accuracy of .1 gammas) were taken at 50 foot stations. Diurnal corrections were made by integrating the magnetic variations recorded every 30 seconds by an MP-3 base station with raw field data.

Page 10: Area : Report No: 26 BELL LAKE WORK PERFORMED ......NOTES: (1) W9230.0052, filed DEC/92. 52Gtssweeea zs BELL LAKE NORANDA EXPLORATION COMPANY, LIMITED (no personal liability) REPORT

7.2 Large Loop TEM 57 Survey

The PROTEM EM 57 is a time domain system which can operate in both fixed or moving loop mode. Fixed loops can be variable in size from up to 500 x 1000m. The moving loop uses an 8-turn 5x5m square.

The transmitter outputs a bipolar rectangular current with a 5096 duty cycle. Repetition rates are 3 Hz, 7.5 Hz and 30 Hz with a maximum output current of 20 amps at voltage taps of 20 or 40 volts.

The receiver the time rate of decay of the magnetic flux along 3 axes on 20 geometrically spaced time channels for each base frequency ranging from 6 ms to 80 ms. Base frequencies available are 3, 7.5, 30, 75 and 285 Hz with signal synchronization provided by either reference cable link or quartz crystal lock. Integration time varies with base frequency from 17.5 sec to 70 sec. The accuracy of the reading varies with ground conditions and signal stacking. Under most conditions, noise envelope of (1dBz7150ms)mV.

For surveying on the property, 2 large transmitter loops were used at the 30 Hz repetition rate. Surveying was done on 800 ft spaced lines with some in loop readings taken from Loop #1.

7.3 Borehole PEM Survey

The Borehole Pulse Electromagnetic equipment will evaluate the size, conductivity and approximate shape and position of the conductors near a borehole. The anomaly patterns from conductors intersected by the borehole are different from those caused by external conductors (Figure 3). The method is capable of detecting a massive sulphide body from a drill hole that cuts the weaker, fringe mineralization surrounding the body. The method is independent of directional changes in the borehole.

The PEM method utilizes a single turn transmitter loop, laid out on surface and a receiver probe that is sent down the borehole (Figure 4). For holes up to 500 meters in depth, the standard 480 watt, 24 volt output transmitter is used. The transmit loop is approximately 100 meters x 100 meters with more than one loop being used in order to obtain directional information. Alternating a single large collar loop encompassing multiple drill holes can be used. For deeper holes (down to 1200 meters) a 2300 watt, 115 volt output PEM transmitter is required, usually driving a transmit loop of approximately 500 meters x 500 meters. A standard PEM receiver is coupled with a reel and cable to the downhole probe.

Multiple loop configurations can be used to assist determination of the defined conductor with respect to the borehole. More recently the development of the XY probe allows 3-component measurements which provide much more diagnostic information as to conductor location. The use of 3-component probes eliminate the need for multiple loop surveys. Examples of type responses are shown in Figure 5.

8.0 DISCUSSION OF RESULTS

8.1 Magnetometer Survey

The survey defined an area of moderate magnetic relief ranging from 59100 nT to 60500 nT. Magnetic trends are northwest-southeast consistent with interpreted geologic strike.

Within the survey area, several discontinuous magnetic anomalies are mapped which appear to truncate or dislocate against a series of northeast structures. These northeast structures are evident on the regional airborne magnetics (Figure 3) and are thought to possibly define synvolcanic structure related to the conduits of hydrothermal solutions (black smokers) essential for massive sulphide mineralization. Thus, one would expect to find alteration pipes and 8M mineralization local to these structures.

The structural corridor bound by NE1 an NE2 appears to define the limits to the Santa Maria stringer zone mineralization. The broad magnetic anomaly M1 which lies at the alteration contact, bound by NE1 and NE2, corresponds with the weak locally massive sulphide mineralization intersected in shallow drilling near the Group 51 south boundary. Investigating the depth extent of this mineralization is considered an exploration priority.

The structural corridor bound by NE3 and NE4 lies in an area of limited exploration. Within this corridor is located the Claw Lake Cu, Zn, Ag showing reported in the government mapping of this area. There is no obvious magnetic target within the area of coverage, however the eastern limits of the structural zone is not fully resolved. Therefore it is essential that grid coverage be extended to the east.

Several of the defined stronger magnetic anomalies (> 1000 nT) appear to have extensive strike O 400m) and a narrow wavelength response indicating a near surface feature. These anomalies M2, M3 and M5 are interpreted to map mafic intrusives.

There is generally no conductivity associated with the intrusives. However, several small target conductive TEM responses (15-channel, 7-channel) were defined along the south flank of M3. An intermediate strength, small dimensional conductor is also located on the north flank of M4. This anomaly appears to map sulphide mineralization associated with a chert unit intersected in hole LLM6 and LLM7.

The chert unit may possibly define the eastern extent to the mineralization associated with M1.

Airborne Magnetics

Evaluation of both Norex and OGS airborne magnetic data indicated that there appears to be a strong correlation between BM mineralization and the intersections of the top of the alteration with northeast trending footwall (synvolcanic faults?) structures. Interpretation of the airborne magnetics (figure 3) identified several strong northeast structures in the Claw Lake area. One of the structural zones coincides with the Santa Maria stringer mineralization.

Re-examination of previous drilling indicated the possibility of mineralization in the area is steeply dipping. A core relogging and lithosampling program confirmed alteration and lithology is vertical to south dipping in the Santa Maria area. It appears that a major flat lying, south (5Qo) dipping thrust fault imparted a schistosing and structural alteration which was incorrectly thought to define the eastern extension to the Sturgeon Lake footwall stratigraphy. Thus, much of the deeper drilling in the area never reached the top of the alteration and stopped within the hanging wall stratigraphy.

Page 14: Area : Report No: 26 BELL LAKE WORK PERFORMED ......NOTES: (1) W9230.0052, filed DEC/92. 52Gtssweeea zs BELL LAKE NORANDA EXPLORATION COMPANY, LIMITED (no personal liability) REPORT

Subsequent to this re-examination the Santa Maria property was optioned and additional claims staked in the Telephone Lake area.

8.2 Large Loop TEM 67 Survey

The Large Loop TEM survey was undertaken to investigate the possibility of deep seated conductors in the vicinity of Claw Lake.

The survey failed to define any significant conductors although several near surface small conductive zones were defined.

C1: Conductor C1 is a small dimensial, discontinuous conductor {IB-channel) located atapproximately 500S extending from 160 to 172E. The conductor appears to map the up dipextent to the massive sulphide mineralization intersected in holes 51-15 and 51-14.The conductor lies on the north flank of magnetic anomaly M1. The width of M1 (400') issignificantly larger than C1 indicating a greater extent to the disseminated sulphide andmagnetite alteration zones associated with the Santa Maria mineralization. The stringer mineralization of the Santa Maria Main Zone lies immediately below Ml.

C2: Anomaly C2 is a small dimensional, discontinuous conductor flanking magnetic anomalyM4. The conductor displays fair conductivity (10 channels) although the short wavelengthresponse indicates small conductive zones.Conductor C2 appears to map local increases in sulphide mineralization within the chert horizonintersected in hole 51-18.The geophysical signature is similar to anomaly M1-C1 and possibly maps the strike extent tothe Sturgeon Lake horizon.

The ground geophysical programs were undertaken in the immediate vicinity of the Santa Maria stringer mineralization. Surveying has mapped the strike extent of the Sturgeon Lake stratigraphy to the east shore of Claw Lake where other synvolcanic structures are inferred (NE3, NE4). There has been no DEEPSEARCH methods applied east of the survey area and continuation of coverage should be considered a top priority.

8.3 Borehole PEM Survey

The BHPEM surveying undertaken on the properties was plagued with instrumentation problems resulting in excess expenditures. The first program undertaken in March was abandoned after a short in the 1600m BEM cable was discovered. The second program undertaken in early June failed as a water leak into the directional probe shorted the unit. The third program undertaken in late June resulted in marginally useful data as the conductive bodies lay at the detection limits of the directional probe.

In total, hole 51-26 was surveyed three times, 51-27 three times, 51-28 twice, 51-25 once, 51-20 once and 92-1 once.

Surveying in holes 51-25 and 51-20 failed to define any anomalous responses.

Hole 51-26: BHPEM surveying defined a strong, long wavelength off-hole conductor located approximately 120m from the hole. Directional probing indicates the conductor is located west and down dip (below right) of a point 730m down hole.

Hole 51-27: BHPEM surveying defined a weak conductive zone located 60m east (left) of the hole at a point 880m down hole.

Hole 51-28: Several conductive zones are resolved at the bottom of the hole (1030m, 1130m) and one inferred beyond the hole's limit. Directional information is incomplete, but suggests the conductive zones lie within 30m of the hole likely down dip trend west.

Hole 92-1: There are several short wavelength conductive responses located near the top of the hole. Most are related to steel wedges. The only legitimate off-hole anomaly is located at 290m down hole. The conductor corresponds with a massive sulphide zone intersected at 1100' down hill in the first hole. The up-dip extension of this hole corresponds with a zone of magnetic, weak, sporadic conductivity zone defined by the TEM 57 survey.

9.0 1992 DRILL PROGRAM

During April - July, 1992 a stratigraphic drill hole was completed to test the 'top of Mattabi' sodic depleted felsic pyroclastics underlying the Simax Option property. The target horizon was the -600m elevation, 300m below any previous drilling.

The field work was undertaken from April 27-30 (drill mob and camp setup) and from May 21 - July 13, 1992 (drilling). One hole was completed encompassing 1744 meters.

The hole was drilled utilizing NO rods and equipment. Core was produced and logged in Imperial units. There was great difficulty in controlling the dip of the hole and two first attempts were each abandoned at 53.9m. Drilling continued to be extremely difficult with several wedges (10) being set and seven wedged holes abandoned as the hole failed to deviate as planned and rods broke in the hole.

Sampling was done on a maximum 3 foot interval over areas of sulphide mineralization. A total of 39 samples were submitted to TSL and Accurassay Labs Ltd. for Cu, Zn, Ag analyses by standard atomic absorption techniques. In addition, 35 core samples were collected approximately every 100

feet and submitted to TSL Labs for whole rock determinations.

Location of S-92-1 (S92-Z1) can be found on Maps 2 and 3. The drill log, cross section and geochemical analyses are appended to this report.

9.1 Discussion of Results

The drill hole was collared in the footwall felsic lapilli tuff stratigraphy. Weak to moderate chlorite-garnet alteration appears to be ubiquitous and occasional 'rhyolite breccia' zones were intersected. Of particular note is a 1.5m section of 'stringer type' sulphide mineralization intersected at 378m hosting up to tt chalcopyrite and 1 -2*K sphalerite. Best assays were 1.14** Cu and 1.23"* Zn over 2.05m. Good looking chloritic sericitic altered felsic fragmental* with patchy sulphide mineralization were intersected from 690m (S-90-W4) to 933m (S-90-W7). The felsic-mafic metavolcanic contact was finally reached in S-92-W7 which finished at 1011 meters (3317 feet). The contact was faulted and not mineralized. A downhole PEM survey revealed an off-hole anomaly at 290m downhole. This corresponds to a 1 -2m wide sulphide zone.

Whole rock determinations exhibit sodic alteration from 120m down hole to at least 820m down hole, approximately 75 meters south of the felsic-mafic metavolcanic contact.

10.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

BHPEM surveying defined a strong off-hole conductor located approximately 120m west of hole 51-26 at a point 730 meters down hole. Within this region, there remains sufficient room to allow a yet untested 'Mattabi size' ore deposit. A drill hole is proposed to drill test the off-hole anomaly.

The 'top of the Mattabi' alteration was intersected 125m east and 220m below the original target in hole S-92-1 at about -1100 meters. The contact of the felsic with the mafic metavolcanics was faulted and not mineralized. A 1.5 meter section 'of stringer type' sulphide mineralization was intersected at 378m downhole with best assays of 1.14ft Cu and 1.23ft Zn over 2.05 meters. An off-hole PEM anomaly corresponds to this sulphide zone. Whole rock analyses confirmed the sodic depletion alteration in the felsic fragmentals intersected. The up-dip extension of this hole corresponds with a zone of magnetic, weak, sporadic conductivity defined by the TEM 57 survey. Further exploration along this horizon is highly recommended.

Finally, geologic mapping, geochemical surveying and EM surveys east of Claw Lake covering the eastern extension of the favourable geology located on Group 51 is recommended.
