lot manufacturer and casino financial solutions provider Everi, is kick-
ing off their annual TournEvent of Champions The Million Dollar Event slot
tournament this month across North America. Talking Stick Resort in
Scottsdale, Arizona will be one of the casinos in the state hosting this major
event. If you want other casinos to be part of the TournEvent, make sure you
tell a slot department or a players club employee. The more casinos hosting the
event, the more chances us players have to qualify for the final in Las Vegas
held this October! Having participated in numerous slot tournaments on
Everi’s games, and in the TournEvent myself, I can tell you how fun and excit-
ing the tournament is. Everi’s slot tournament game gives players real time
updates via a massive leaderboard on video monitors above the bank, live
video of the competing players, and a way to earn more points with bonus
icons on screen by touching the images which then reveal an extra credit prize.
These games are a far cry from the mechanical three reel, one pay line slot
tournament machines of the past. So, go sign up for the Tournevent of Champi-
ons at Talking Stick Resort and then head out to all the other casinos in Arizona
and tell them you’d like to sign up there too!

PLAYERS TALK
06 Arizona Gaming Guide | June 2019 | azgamingguide.com
Q: I am retired and enjoy going to the casino two or three
times a month. I start at Keno. I play 20 games with the same
six numbers for $1 per game. I play a lot of Video Poker at
$2.50 a game. I have had very good luck at times. Video Keno
seems to be always busy. I would like to know if the amount
of numbers you play changes the outcome. For example, five
numbers versus ten numbers. Thank you!
Roger O’Connor – Phoenix, Arizona
A: We love Video Keno as much as you do Roger! Why? Be-
cause, like Video Poker, all the math for the outcomes when
combined with the pay table available in the help screen tell you
exactly what the return to player percentage of the game is. At
least you know the house hold you are playing against! With
the slots, it can be anyone’s guess!
In any event, the first table of probabilities (pg. 8, expressed as
percentages) based on spots played will be of extreme useful-
ness for any Video Keno fanatic. This table helps a Video Keno
player determine how frequently they will experience certain
wins over the long run (i.e. millions of spins on a Video Keno
machine). For example, in the first table, playing six spots, the
probability of hitting four spots (as a percentage) is 2.85 on aver-
age over the long run. Playing seven spots, the probability of
hitting four spots (as a percentage) is about 5.22. Playing four
spots, the probability of hitting all four spots is about 0.31.
That’s low! Less than a third of one percent chance!
The bottom row of the first table (labeled Total Probability (%) Of
Wins) identifies the total probability, as a percentage, of all wins
for each column based on typical Video Keno pay tables as
listed in the last table. This row helps players identify which
selection of spots has the lowest and highest probability of
hitting winners, on average, over the long run.
The second table indicates what the pulls to hit, or number of
spins, for spots are based on total spots selected. For example, in
the second table, playing six spots, you can expect to hit four
spots once in every 35.04 games on average over the long run.
Playing seven spots, you’ll hit four spots once every 19.16
games on average over the long run. Playing four spots, you’ll
hit all four spots once in every 326.44 games on average over the
long run. You can use the table to better identify which selection
of spots you’d like to play based on how often they occur.
Of course, the tables provide a limited amount of insight until
you associate wins and the amounts of the wins onto each set of
spots. Essentially, we need a pay table and Video Keno has two
types. The first kind pays players for not hitting any of the num-
bers and the second pays only when players hit numbers.
Personally, pay tables where players are paid for not hitting
their spots suck. In our opinion, they are no fun to play. And,
you can really feel it when you play such pay tables. You are
constantly winning a low amount of money. Plus, you are no

longer playing a pay table with a return to player (RTP) percent-
age that is in the nineties. Now the return to player percentage
is in the eighties. That means the casino is holding more money!
But regardless of personal preference, the last two tables split
out the Pulls to Hit for winners only, along with the combined
Pulls to Hit for all wins in the bottom row, based on the Hit 0
pay (labeled Pay Table “0”) and not having a Hit 0 pay (labeled
Pay Table “1”).
(Continued from page 6)
And, our Video Keno advice to you is to not switch spots! Pick
your spots and stick with those numbers. Don’t make a change,
as you’ll always be frustrated by hits on spots you just removed.
Less aggravation is always a good thing!
Please note the tables below have green cells (spots players are
paid for) and red cells (spots players are not paid for) for the
standard pay table as listed in the last table (Pay Table “1”).
Good luck with your Video Keno play sessions Roger! $

have to tread softly when an over-card comes on the flop and
you get a call. When you flop top pair, it’s your kicker that’s
important. Don’t expect to win with King-Ten very often, but
Ace-King or King-Queen on a flop with a King is strong. Bet
those hands!
And, you can take some chances on nut-flush, and nut-straight
(nut means the best) draws for reasonable bet amounts, even
against just one player because you can get paid off well on the
river!
Other than that, don’t call for all your chips to draw to a straight
or flush unless you are getting good odds from the money in the
pot compared to how much it is to call—more than 2-1 on the
flop and 5-1 on the turn. Don’t call to draw if there’s a pair
onboard.
On the flip side, bet more than 1/2 the pot when there is a flush
or straight draw to keep others from calling cheaply. $

he game Texas Hold ’Em is hot but thinking that limit
and no-limit games are the same is not. Games with a
limit on wagers are more forgiving because you can
skate around, make some mistakes, and perhaps still come out
ahead for the evening. Make a single mistake at no-limit, and
you’re busted!
Rules for Limit Games
In limit games, you can bluff all you want, but you can’t win
very often doing it. You’ll have to show-down the best hand
almost all the time. That means you’ll want to start with the best
hands like top pairs and aces and faces. Especially if you’re un-
der the gun.
If you’ve got weaker hands like Jack-Ten or 8-9 suited, it’s less
profitable to call early, but you can certainly limp-in with them
from closer to the button since there’s less chance of getting
raised. If you’ve got a big pair or Ace-King, they are always
worth a raise or even a re-raise. Narrow the field and get some
money in the pot.
You can keep betting your pocket Aces or Kings no matter what
flops. A scary board like 9-T-Q might slow you down, but don’t
let anyone draw to a straight or flush cheaply. If you flop a set,
put in a raise or re-raise, even with that flop, for the same rea-
son. It’s going to hit a lot of hands, and they’ll pay to draw, so
make’em. If they hit a flush or straight that’s a bummer, but you
can take down a big pot if you make a full house!
Other than that, don’t try to make a straight or a flush heads-up.
Those are drawing hands, and you want at least two callers to
make it profitable. And, don’t draw to a straight with two cards
of the same suit on the flush. One of your outs will put a possi-
ble flush out there. Wait for a better opportunity.
Rules for No-Limit Games
No-limit is all about risk versus reward. You don’t ever want to
be wrong about having the best hand but, paradoxically, you
can limp-in with weaker starting hands because you can dump
them on the flop or get paid handsomely if you make a big
hand.
You’ll want to get a raise in preflop with top pairs, and you’ll

Self-Proclaimed “Godfather” Of
AZ Mixed Martial Arts Charged
On Numerous Criminal Offenses
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office filed charges in justice
court against Mr. Roland Sarria and Mr. Todd Whitmoyer for
suspected involvement in unsanctioned combat sporting
events in Maricopa County. Charges arose from an Arizona
Department of Gaming (ADG) investigation into the activities
of both defendants who reside in Maricopa County.
Each subject faces four, class 2 misdemeanors for failing to
procure a license and failing to provide a physician for un-
sanctioned events that occurred on September 15, 2018, in
Phoenix, and another event on September 29, 2018, in Glen-
dale. Additional charges could be forthcoming. In Arizona,
class 2 misdemeanors can carry a maximum fine of $750 and
four months jail time, per violation. In some instances, courts
may assess a maximum fine of $10,000, per violation.
“It’s our duty to protect the integrity of these sports, the un-
armed combatants and the public,” said ADG Director Ted
Vogt. “We do this by ensuring that individuals engaged in
unsanctioned unarmed combat events are held accountable in
a court of law.” “Unarmed combat sports are highly regulated
competitions that require careful oversight to ensure the safe-
ty of the combatants and the spectating public, as well as a
fair competition and impartial result,” said Francisco Menes-
es, Jr., Executive Director, AZ Boxing & MMA Commission.
“Unsanctioned events pose a physical danger to fighters and
the public alike and compromise the integrity of combat
sports.”
ADG takes tips about unsanctioned events involving un-
armed combat sports events very seriously. If you have a tip,
or just need information, please call 1.602.364.1721. $
All defendants are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.

July 26
On Friday, July 26, 2019, Mazatzal welcomes 4NR a tribute to
Foreigner. With ten multi-platinum albums and sixteen Top 30
hits, Foreigner is universally hailed as one of the most popular
rock acts in the world with a formidable musical arsenal that
continues to propel sold-out tours and album sales, now ex-
ceeding 75 million.

All Time listing.
4NR is an upper-echelon tribute of the highest caliber. Com-

the band performed on AXSTV "World's Greatest Tribute
Bands" in front of an estimated 1 million viewers and stunned
the audience with the near perfect replication of the Foreigner

ing Shame” and “All Night Long.” They also took home the
American Music Association’s award for Best Duo or Group
of the Year in 2015. With such diverse musical abilities, the
band is able to seamlessly blend elements of Tex-Mex, Cuban

board Hot 100 in 1987. In recent years, the band released their
album “Gates of Gold,” continuing to foster their unique
sound with a blend of Tex-Mex, country, folk, blues and tradi-
tional Spanish and Mexican music.
UPCOMING SHOWS AT HARRAH’S AK-CHIN CASINO
Los Lonely Boys & Ozomatli—June 8
Creedence Clearwater Revisited—June 15
Bell Biv Devoe—August 30 $
here you are, seated at your favorite slot machine in the
casino. You’re just going along with your usual business
when all of a sudden, and much to your surprise, you’re
surrounded by more lights and bells than Santa Claus at Christ-
mas! A slot attendant and/or slot technician approaches, opens
the machine door and begins pressing buttons. At which point
you’re told that you did not, in fact, hit a jackpot because there
was a system malfunction. You’re thinking, “Are you kidding
me?”
While today’s machines are technologically advanced and thor-
oughly tested by regulator agencies, unfortunately, malfunc-
tions may still occur. What do you do when this happens?
Step 1: Complain through appropriate channels
Whether you are seated at the slots, involved in a hand of poker
or playing a game of bingo, immediately make contact with one
of the floor supervisors in that area. Far from being the bully on
the playground trying to take your lunch money, they are actu-
ally there to help. You want to alert them to the situation as
soon as possible to launch the initial investigation.
If the supervisor fails to resolve your concerns, the next step is
to contact the Gaming Facility Operator. He or she will likely
have the last word for the casino, but if you are unsatisfied it is
your responsibility to then file a complaint with the Tribal Gam-
ing Office. The Tribal Gaming Office will conduct whatever in-
vestigation it deems necessary and determine whether payment
should be made.
Step 2: Time is of the essence
You need to stop and call attention to this matter immediately.
Do not make the mistake of continuing to play! Report this oc-
currence while the details are fresh in your mind. Furthermore,
if an electronic device plays a role in your situation, it is im-
portant to understand that these machines contain a limited
memory. Each device varies, but the sooner you can report your
issue the better your chances of recovering previous data.
There is constant video surveillance of the casino floor to ensure
patron safety and also to record problems that may arise
throughout the day. When involved in an incident, it is impera-
tive that you promptly file your complaint so that possible re-
cordings may be retrieved. Digital files are often deleted unless
there is a reported situation which would require them to be
retained.
NO JACKPOT. NO PAYOUT. NO KIDDING! You Think You Won A Jackpot. The Casino Says You Didn’t. What Now?
By Sami Becker
SAMI’S SMACKDOWN
Step 3: Details are key
Noting the exact name and serial number of the machine in
question is a valuable element in reporting your concern. Re-
cording the exact time can assist in determining which employ-
ees were on the floor and if there is any video surveillance avail-
able. Be sure to document the names of witnesses and casino
employees with whom you’ve spoken to. A precise report is the
most credible complaint.
Step 4: Never settle for less
Do not agree to a settlement with the casino until you are com-
pletely satisfied. Once they offer you something like a free
buffet and you take them up on it, they will consider the matter
resolved. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think that one free
night stay at the casino hotel measures up to a $5,000 jackpot!
If after following this procedure you feel you have not received
due process, you can then contact the Arizona Department of
Gaming. While the Compact gives the Tribes jurisdiction to re-
solve complaints, State regulators are always open to hear from
somebody regarding their good or bad experience at the casi-
nos.
When all else fails, the ultimate appeal for patrons is the Tribal
Court. But, that avenue can only be pursued when you follow
the guidelines of placing a formal complaint. Perhaps your final
say comes down to whether or not you ever want to revisit that
establishment. Casinos are businesses like any other and they
want satisfied customers. Let the proper authorities know what
they can do to make things right. $
