Arizona LEARNS: Overview of the Achievement Profiles
Points of Interest Basis of the model is AIMS
Credit for increasing percent of students in M/E. Credit for decreasing FFB students
MAP(Stanford 9 Measurement of Academic Progress) and Extended Writing for Grades 3-8Impact is relatively small
Graduation and Dropout Rates for High SchoolsWorth 25% of HS Designation
Doing well in one subject does not necessarily help deficiency in another.

Statutory Definition of Excelling Schools

90% of students with one year of academic progress in all subject areas (MAP Analysis)
and
90% of students that Meet of Exceed Standards on the AIMS in all subject areas
9-12
90% of students that Meet of Exceed Standards on the AIMS in all subject areas
and The School’s annual Dropout Rate is no more than 6%
andThe School’s Graduation Rate is at least 90%

Your school is placed into a Grouping based on the percent of students with Meeting or Exceeding scores on the AIMS during the school year 99-00
If your school averages 90% or higher over the last 3 years they would be placed into Group 6 (Excelling)
For example: If your school had a Mastery rate of 45% for 5th grade Math it would be placed into Group 4
How much did your school change?
How school change points are computed for grades 3,5,8 Credit is given if the school increases the percent of
its students that Meet or Exceed on AIMS
Credit is given if the school decreases the percent of its students that Fall Far Below on AIMS
Credit given for Added Evidence from the Measure of Academic Progress report, Extended Writing on AIMS
Example: School Change Points
Percent of students at the school with Falls Far Below scores
Year 2000 (Baseline) 20%Average from last 3 years 18%
Difference 2%
Percent of students at the school with Meets or Exceeds scores
Year 2000 (Baseline) 40%Average from last 3 years 50%
Difference 10%
Total School Change Points: 12%
Example: Adjusting Your School Change Points Using Added Evidence School Change Points will be added if you have 60% or higher students making
one year’s growth (OYG) from the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP). OYG is based on the Stanford 9. To achieve OYG, students need to get at least the same or higher stanine for two consecutive years.
For example; If your school had 90% of students making OYG, then you could get almost 4% added to your 3rd grade Math change points.
This is added to AIMS Growth Points for Reading and Math for Grades 3,5,8 (Elementary and Middle Schools)
Example: Adjusting Change Points Using Added Evidence (Cont.)
Extended Writing from AIMS School Change Points will be added based on the
percent of students with 24 or more points from the Extended Writing subtest on the AIMS.
For example, if your school had 50% of its students with Extended Writing scores of 24 or higher, then you could get 3.3% added to your 3rd grade Writing change points
This applies to Writing for Grades 3,5,8

Added Evidence for High Schools
Dropout and Graduation Rates are factored in the Achievement Profiles for high schools.
For 01-02…
Credit is given for decreasing dropout rates by 1% from 99-00 to the average of the last three years.
Credit is given for increasing graduation rates by 1% from 99-00 to the average of the last three years.

Please Note!!!
• Title I schools in school improvement can only be removed from such status after two consecutive years of making AYP.
• Title I schools in school improvement will maintain status for the remainder of the 2002-03 academic year, regardless of results yielded by October 15, 2002 achievement profile.
• If a Title I school in school improvement status is designated as Maintaining or Improving (has made AYP) according to the October 15, 2002 achievement profile and is found to have made AYP on the 2003 achievement profile, it will be removed from school improvement status.
