A NEW ‘CHAPTER’ IN ARKANSAS GOOD SAM — There are so many changes taking place in Arkansas Good Sam it’s hard to know where to start! The Spring Samboree in Texarkana seems like a good place. Each of the spring newsletters will have Samboree updates and new activities, so watch each issue for details. We want to know what Good Sammers want. We encour-age everyone to call or email us with new ideas. Anyone volunteering to teach an interesting seminar, educational or craft, please let us know. We hope to achieve fun and excitement. Plan to come early. We are having a Tuesday game night for the early birds, no prizes, just fun! Wednesday night there’ll be a "Bean Dinner" and entertainment. Definitely come early!!! Our mini café was very successful and has appropriately been named “The Crocky Pot” since most items are cooked in slow cookers. Watch the menu as it promises good eats by our very own good cooks! For game players there’s a new tournament game on the schedule. There’s also a possibility of a daily 50/50 raffle with a drawing each evening. We hope to offer seminars for all. Maybe have something for "Just Girls". Yeah!!! The quilting ‘show & tell’ at the Ft Smith Samboree was very well attended, and in Texar-kana we’re planning an "I Made It In My Camper...crafty things I take with me on the road.” Bring your craft/stitching/handwork projects to show and share with oth-ers. In Ft Smith we had awesome vendors. Several members couldn’t resist the RVs on display and the new vendors inside were more than helpful. Remember, they’re there for us; so let’s support them. Everyone is encouraged to report memorials to our web-master Ron Mooney who will add them to the Arkansas Good Sam website. Dolly Flanakin will hold our annual Memorial Service at the Spring Samboree, and it helps her if you can provide her with the needed information for those who have passed and are to be included. Chapter projects are encouraged and supported. A raffle or 50/50 drawing at the Samboree is an excellent way to raise money to fund these many things Good Sammers do for the needy in their community. To make sure you have an area for setup and display, please coordinate your plans with Tommy Ferrell or Bill Nery and they will help you with a location. Bring your own tables as the fair-grounds has very few. Then enjoy our awesome Friday night/Saturday night en-tertainment. It will be spectacular!!!!!!!!
Happy New Year to all, Happy New Year to all!
We had a different and exciting 2012. Thanks to all of
you for giving me this opportunity to serve as your State
Director.
We had a wonderful time at all the Christmas parties.
Wish we could have attended every one of them.
Our trip to the Florida Rally and Samboree was very edu-
cational for us; we learned a lot working with other State
Directors and attending meetings. Now we’re ready to
have a great 2013 April Samboree in Texarkana. Our
Staff and volunteers are working hard on new ideas. To-
gether, we can build a schedule filled with seminars,
games, vendors and, of course, food. I am encouraging all
our chapters to get involved and to come early (on
Wednesday) since some activities will be in process.
Bring a friend !!! Let's build our membership. Our "First
Timers" are going to be a top priority in 2013. Let's make
a special effort to help them understand what "Good Sam"
is all abou,t and what we have to offer.
Hope to see all of you at Texarkana, let me know if I can
help you in any way.
Remember : "Love" was born on Christmas Day. God
Bless all.
Bill Nery
New Years Prayer
Thank you Lord for giving me, the brand new year ahead, Help me live the way I should, as each new day I tread.
Give me a gentle wisdom, that I might help a friend, Give me strength and courage, so a shoulder I might lend. The year ahead is empty, help me fill it with good things, Each new day filled with joy and the happiness it brings.

WOW! We’ve had the most interesting time as park
hosts at Caddo Lake State Park, Karnack, TX. We were
scheduled for the month of November; however, after
our first week here we were asked how much longer
after December 1 could we stay. With minor scheduling
changes we were able to stay until December 20. First,
this is a very old park built by the CCC. It’s well kept
and park hosts are an important factor in the Park.
Karnack is the girlhood home of Lady Bird Johnson.
When I asked to buy 6 stamps at the Post Office I was
offered a sheet of stamps commemorating Mrs. Johnson.
Five miles from Karnack is the town of Uncertain, TX.
As early as the ‘30’s Uncertain was a bustling community
on Caddo Lake, the only ‘natural’ lake in the State of
Texas. I had the honor of helping to decorate a small
white VanGo as a snowman and to ride inside in the Un-
certain Christmas Parade. It was on land this year and
was very nice considering the size of the town today.
We were shocked and saddened to learn of the death of
a very close friend on December 20th when a tree weak-
ened by the winds of the night before fell on him pinning
him underneath. We drove into Arkansas for his funeral,
then on the morning of December 24 we headed for our
3-month stay in Edinburg, TX in the Rio Grande Valley.
I hope the printing changes of the Arkansam News did
not cause too much inconvenience for members. It will
be such a fund saver to be completely online the first
week of every month on the www.arkansasgoodsams.com
website. If you don’t have a computer it’s been recom-
mended that the chapter members help each other and
share a printed copy at the monthly meetings. This will
allow several opportunities not available when it’s being
printed by an outside source so watch each newsletter
for changes that, as your Editor, I hope makes this publi-
cation better for chapter members.
For the February March and April 2013 issues please
address your articles to me at Citrus Mobile & RV
Park, 1700 Lime Street, Edinburg, TX 78539 or write
your article as the body of an email and send it to me at
Deadline each month is the 25th.
Please remember to keep the families in Newtown in your
daily prayers. Some things you can share from long
distance:
*smiles with people passing on the street
*time with someone who might be lonely
*good thoughts with people you love
*your most embarrassing story
*a great joke
*family traditions with friends
*a bottle of wine
*your favorite recipe

ARKANSAS ROADRUNNERS The Senior Center in Harrison, AR looked festive at 11:00 AM when every-one began to arrive for the party. We had a nice, but chilly, day for the occa-sion, although early in the morning we had a few snowflakes that made sev-eral of us wonder if we were going to have a white party. We would like to thank our new Directors Bill & Dee Nery for braving the cold and driving all the way from Hot Springs to be with us. We enjoyed your presence very much. And also thanks to our Assistant State Directors Paul & Pat Smith for driving up from Greers Ferry to be with us. Paul in-stalled the new Chapter Officers for the year 2013. Pat sat down at the pi-ano and played Christmas carols, and we all sang along (what words we knew). What a blessing to be able to do this with our Good Sam Family. The meal was catered by Hudson's Grocery in Harrison and was a real treat. The food was very good. There were only 20 people in attendance; we missed all of you who could not be with us due to illness or other reasons. Our thanks to Jim & Becky Myers for making the arrangements for the Hall, food, drinks and all the other work you did. Jim & Becky are two of our best workers and we don't know what we would do without them. Also thanks to Meryl & Helen Mennenga for the festive table decorations. Alma Lea Snow & Helen Mennenga brought snacks; we were all just about stuffed by the time we ate. Thank you gals; that was nice of you and yummy, also. We enjoyed hearing about our future Samborees from Bill & Dee Nery. It sounds like things are going to be really interesting and a change of pace in 2014. There was the usual Dirty Santa gift exchange which is always a lot of fun. Those of you who did not get last month’s newsletter, if you still want a copy, email me and I will snail mail you a copy-- for some reason I can't find it in my computer files. I’ll have to make you a copy from my paper trail. Thanks to all & hope you ALL HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY, HEALTHY NEW YEAR. HAPPY TRAILS, Mary Gerg

QUEEN WILHELMINA GOOD SAMS The Queen Wilhelmina Good Sams met Thursday, December 13 at the Polk County Housing Authority Hospi-
tality room for a Christmas potluck. There was lots of food to choose from and the desserts were scrump-tious. The room was decorated with Christmas things and brightly colored tablecloths were used. Twelve members and guests Bill and Dee Nery, Bernie and Judy Bauer, and Bobby and Gayle Galloway were present.
After eating, Bill Nery, our Interim State Director spoke with enthusiasm about the ideas and changes he would be proposing. He and Dee had been to several State Rallys and discussed our Spring Samboree, in ad-dition to telling us the South Region schedule of State Samborees. Bernie Bauer discussed our Spring Friendship Campout and also installed our officers: Jim Montgomery, President; Billy Wood, Vice President; Pat Johnson, Secretary; Thelma Berg, Treasurer; Wingo Johnson, Wagon Master; and Bettie Montgomery,
Historian. The group played "Dirty Santa" after eating. There was much laughter. MERRY CHRISTMAS
LA PETITE ROCHE La Petite Roche held our Christmas Party at Hardins Market in Scott, AR. If you haven’t been there you have missed a treat. It is really neat and the food is so good. Those attending were: Alma Lea Snow, Shirley & Cecil Kingrey, Peggy & LeRoy Longcrier, Harold & Betty Keen, Flo & George McSweeny, Tom & Lois Anderson. With guest Harry & Kattie Ringler, Lois Ann Glass, Tom & Lois Andrsons daugh-ter, Gertie & Tom Vanhovlen, Shirley Blackwell and Bill & Dee Nery. We had a brief meeting and then Bill & Dee told us about their trip to the Rally in Florida and some of the things they had learned in Directors’ meetings and at the Samboree. We must have done something right because the Ringlers decided to join our chapter, and we welcome them. We know they will be a big asset. After the meeting and eating we did a left-right gift exchange to the reading of The Night Before Christmas by Bernie Bauer. Don’t forget, January meeting will be in Jacksonville, the 10th at the Hook. Again a special thanks to Bill & Dee Nery for join-ing us. See you next year; Judy Bauer

‘Twas 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38, when 20 beautiful children stormed through Heaven's gate. Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air. They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there. They were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say. They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day. "Where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse. "This is heaven." declared a small boy. "We're spending Christmas at God's house." When what to their wondering eyes did appear, but Jesus, their Savior; the children gathered near. He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same. Then He opened His arms and He called them by name; and in that moment was joy, that only Heaven can bring, those children all flew into the arms of their King. And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace, one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face. As if He could read all the questions she had, He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad." Then He looked down on earth, the world far below He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe. He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand, "Let My power and presence re-enter this land! "May this country be delivered from the hands of fools "I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!" Then He and the children stood up without a sound. "Come now my children, let me show you around." Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran, all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can. And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight, "In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

MAYFLOWER PILGRIMS
The December meeting & Christmas dinner was held at the Senior Center in Mayflower on Friday evening, Dec. 14. The meal was catered by Smittys, and we enjoyed BBQ bris-ket & ham with all the sides and plenty of yummy desserts.
We had 11 members in attendance, with special guests Bill & Dee Nery and Pamela Harrell. New officers were installed. There were discussions on future Samborees and information given for the upcoming Friendship Campout in Hot Springs in May.
Plans for next month’s meeting at Pizza Inn on Hogan Road in Conway, Jan. 8 at 5 pm
were discussed. We also planned our campouts for the 2013 year.

NORTHEAST ARKANSAS TRAVELING SAMS (N.E.A.T.)
The NEAT Chapter held their November luncheon Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Hibachi Grill in Jones-boro. Thirty-nine members and guests were in attendance. The Chapter raised $5,303 for St. Jude Chil-
dren’s Hospital through the quilt raffle. Dottie Hendrix sold the winning ticket to her cousin. Fifteen members sold at least 100 tickets each. Receiving the check for St. Jude were Jackie Sherman and her son Ben. Ben is a former St. Jude patient who was released March 2011 after being treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Three Jonesboro couples were at the luncheon as prospective members. An invitation is always ex-tended to new members. Everyone was glad to see former members, Mary Jo Warner, Bob and Jana
Garcia and James and Mary Francis Taylor at the luncheon. Members donated 188 lbs of food and $34.00 to the Northeast Arkansas Food Bank. The Christmas luncheon was held at Simpkins Restaurant in Paragould, December 6. There were 21 members present and two guests. President Pease presented Charles and Caroline Bogan a 10-year park hosting bar. Since there will be no Fall Samboree, Curt Carmickle made the motion and Raymond Staggs made the second to have an October campout. The motion carried. The Friendship Campout for
the spring still hasn’t been scheduled. We pray for traveling mercies to all of you going south.

ARKANSAS ONE The November campout for Arkansas One was held at Lake Catherine SP on November 7-11 for our annual work week/campout. Tommy & Shirley Blackwell were park hosting, and they joined in with us, too. Our work project this year was painting. On Monday we started with picnic tables in the pavilion in the picnic area, fin-ished them quickly, then moved on to the railing at the Visitors’ Center. And finished that, too. Richard (Park Superinten-dent, Richard Boyes) came along, saw what a good job we were doing, and found a couple more tables behind the Visi-tors’ Center that needed our attention. By the end of Tuesday all the tables and benches below the Visitors’ Center and around the swimming area were painted. Wednesday we were back up on the picnic area hill, and painted tables in the tent area and some in the picnic area, then finished up with the tables around the marina. We spent a total of 78 hours and painted 59 tables, 8 benches, and the railing. Dolly Flanakin was our chief cook and fixed a meal for us each night. Monday was dumplings, Tuesday, a pot of beans, and Wednesday, homemade vegetable soup. At noon Thursday we had our potluck lunch, and we invited the park staff….Richard, Cheryl, Roz, Tommy, and the maintenance crew….for a home-cooked meal that included jambalaya, sweet potatoes, turnip greens, and pecan pie. Thursday afternoon was our business meeting. Plans and the date for the Christmas party were discussed. We will again donate to our Salvation Army Angel Project and Brenda Miller will do the shopping. Tommy Blackwell explained some of the changes to help rebuild Good Sam by going to only one Samboree a year, rearranging the states in our re-gion, and changing from Sambassadors to Regional Directors. We welcome new members Joe and Yvonne Jingle to Arkansas One and look forward to having them camp with us. Donita talked with them at the Samboree in Ft Smith and did a good job of convincing them that we would be a good group for them. Our work week ended on Friday as we all left home for the winter, having enjoyed the beautiful colors of fall leaves at Lake Catherine for our last campout of 2012.
