What is the Trades Center?
• Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) –
Maintains parks, other open spaces and
community centers.
• Department of Environmental Services,
Equipment Bureau (DES) –
Repairs/maintenance of all County vehicles,
motorized equipment and buses
• DES - Water Sewer, Streets Bureau –
Operates and maintains water distribution
system, storm sewer system and County
streets; snow removal operations.
• DES - Solid Waste Bureau – Manages
collection and processing of refuse, recycling,
organic materials and debris.
• DES – Transportation, Engineering and
Operations – Street light and traffic light
maintenance; sign design, fabrication and
installation.
• APS – Facilities & Operations – Facilities
planning, design, construction and
maintenance; school transportation functions.
• Arlington County Police Department (ACPD),
Police Impound Lot
• Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD),
Fire Training Academy
The Trades Center is a 38-acre site located in Shirlington, owned and operated by
Arlington County and Arlington Public Schools. The site provides critical support
services and emergency services to our community.

to facilitate economic
revitalization (library and garage

Goals of Trades Center Optimization Study
The study will:
• produce preferred plan
& provide estimates
that may be included in
upcoming Capital
Improvement Plan
(CIP)
• engage internal &
external stakeholders
• utilize feedback from
stakeholders to inform
recommendations
The study is not:
• a construction project
• a master planning effort
• an implementation plan
• currently funded in the
Capital Improvement
Plan
