ARMOURED FORD using Flexible Concrete Revetment (Armoured Concrete Block)
Designed and intended to minimize environmental damage and detrimental effects to a streams ecosystem by constructing
an armoured stream crossing where one or a combination of the following conditions exists;
1) POOR AVAILABILITY OF MATERIALS
- Rock rip-rap (armour) is not readily available.
2) HIGH COST OF MATERIALS
- Cost of generating rock is costly. (eg drilling and blasting)
- Transporting rock to the site is costly. (eg long hauling distances and/or poor road conditions)
3) ACCESS TIMES COSTLY
- Access for heavy machinery to the site is costly. (eg long hauling distances and/or poor road conditions)
4) ACCESS FOR TRUCKS AND MACHINERY LIMITED or RESTRICTED
- Transporting rock to the site is not possible. (eg road condition is poor or unsafe or in the event access is restricted due to road failure or failed
bridges etc.)
- Access for heavy machinery to the site is not possible. (eg road condition is poor or unsafe or in the event access is restricted due to road failure
or failed bridges etc.)

NOTE; 'Heel-in' may also be commonly referred to as; 'rounding down', 'rolling-in' and other terms. See diagrams for
further details. Ensure that the 'heeled-in' design depth be sufficiently below the anticipated scour depth eg. Erosion
during a peak high-water event (flood) or the natural movement of stream-bed materials. A minimum depth of 1 meter is
recommended.
