CAPE MAY -- Help Ani-mal Outreach celebrate its new Adoption Center at their annual shindig, Sat., Feb. 16, at the Cape May VFW on Congress Street to benefi t its work placing homeless cats and dogs into forever homes.
Animal Outreach has helped dozens of cats and dogs fi nd new homes since they opened last fall. They have helped people who have had to surrender their pets and the local animal shelter as well.

THE WILDWOODS – Another successful All-Breed Dog Show, hosted by the Boardwalk Kennel Club, just concluded at the Wildwoods Convention Center. This dog-lovers’ five-day event featured action-packed activities and shows from Jan. 31 through Feb. 3. There were several competitive categories in which various prizes were awarded, based on a multi-
merchandise for those look-ing for something special to pamper their pooch – from collars and leashes to books and training tools, along with everything in between. Guided tours also took place to help educate the public about all aspects of the sport of dog shows.

STONE HARBOR - The Borough of Stone Harbor is announcing the Third annual Stone Harbor Shiver Weekend, an event that builds around what many lovingly call a Polar Bear Plunge. On March 9, locals and visitors alike will line the 96th Street beach in Stone Harbor. These par-ticipants will resist bone chilling March winds and freezing temperatures as they stand side by side in their bathing suits and leap into the frigid Atlantic Ocean. New for 2013, Shiver Weekend will in-clude a parade down 96th street and Bonfi re on 96th street beach. The Stone Harbor Shiver Committee is also excited to announce that NBC40’s Dan Skeldon
will be their Master of Ceremonies the day of the plunge.
Proceeds from this event will benefi t the Cape May County Special Services School, Friend in Need and the Friends of Stone Harbor 9/11 Point of Peace Park. Sponsorship opportunities are available!
“I think the Shiver is a great promotional event for Stone Harbor and the local businesses,” said Fred’s Tavern owner and Commit-tee member Jimmy Hand. “It’s an opportunity to kick off our season early and show locals and visitors that we are open and ready for business.”
A pre-plunge party will be held on Friday night, March 8 at the Yacht Club
of Stone Harbor beginning at 6 PM. Participants can register and the party in-cludes music, food and an auction. The cost for this event is $15 per person. Registration for the Shiver is $30 for adults and $15 for students with Student ID. All who register before March 5 will receive a long sleeved Stone Harbor Shiv-er t-shirt. The plunge kicks
off March 9 with a parade down 96th street promptly at 12 noon. Judging which includes awards for Best Costume, Best Team Cos-tume, Best Team Name, the oldest plunger and the youngest plunger and then plunge will happen di-rectly after the parade and concludes at the Women’s

CAPE MAY - Wanda Ev-elyn, chair of the Center for Community Arts (CCA) History Committee and CCA Executive Director Bernadette Matthews (cen-ter) were congratulated by Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humani-ties (MAC) Director Mi-chael Zuckerman (left) and Cape May Mayor Ed Mahaney, at the reception Jan. 21 at the Carriage House Gallery to open the CCA exhibit, "Celebrating Community Service: Black Fraternal, Social and Civic Organizations of Cape May County."
This exhibit explores the significance of black fraternal, social and civic organizations in African American social life, fea-turing such organizations as the GEMS (Gracious, Enthusiastic, Matron Ser-vice) of Cape May County, Inc., who in their 20-year history provided $50,000 in scholarships to over 75 Cape May County students; the Prince Hall Masons, the oldest black fraternal organization in the Unit-ed States dating back to the American Revolution; the Eastern Stars; and the Black USO, among others. These organizations have emerged with the sole purpose of enhancing the lives of African Ameri-cans; the exhibit focuses on the black organizations of Cape May County. The public is invited to a free panel discussion at the Carriage House Gallery,
1048 Washington St., Cape May, on Feb. 17 at 4 p.m., which will include representatives from CCA and the local commu-nity. The exhibit will be open Saturdays, Jan. 19

COURT HOUSE - Late registrations for the MT-BSA Spring 2013 baseball and softball will be accept-ed inside the MTBSA Nate Doughty Batting Facility located at the Davies Sports Complex on:

No late registrations will be accepted after Feb 21.

2013 registration fees, tryout and requirements:
$75 for T-Ball (ages 4 to 6) and Instructional (ages 6 to 8) levels. Parents of 8 year olds who are unsure if their child should move up to Minors are encouraged to attend a tryout on Feb. 23 at 12 noon.
$90 for Minor and Ma-jor leagues (ages 8 to 12). Must be age 10 to tryout for the Majors division. Tryout dates are Feb. 23 and 24 and March 2 and 3.
$100 for Junior league (ages 13 to 16)

CAPE MAY - The award-winning East Lynne The-ater Company and The Henry Sawyer Inn still have a few openings left for their special "Playwrit-ing Get-Away" on March 1 and 2. All of those who attended last year’s fi rst an-nual “Get-Away,” left with plays they’d written in less than twenty-four hours. Participants were from a variety of backgrounds and playwriting experience, and reviews were very favorable. One even called it "A real life changing experience."
ELTC's artistic direc-tor, Gayle Stahlhuth, who heads up the program, uses writing and simple acting exercises to trigger the imagination. Partici-pants are encouraged to create plays, at least ten-minute in length, during three workshop sessions, culminating in readings of these by ELTC performers. This workshop is geared for those who have writ-ten plays, as well as those who have always wanted to try their hand at writing a play.
Stahlhuth has taught in a variety of settings throughout the country, including the North Wild-wood Writers' Conference, and has received playwrit-ing commissions from the Smithsonian Institution, The Illinois Humanities Council, and other orga-nizations. Theaters that have produced her works include Manhattan Theatre Club and Pennsylvania Stage Company.
Not only are the rooms at The Henry Sawyer Inn conducive to the quiet needed for writing, but the parlor and the din-ing room are available for individual use, as well as for the locations for the workshops. Cost is $399 for 2 people and $299 for one (plus tax), which includes accommodations, breakfast, afternoon tea and treats for two nights, and the workshop fee. Cost for those who don't need overnight accommodations is $150, which includes the afternoon tea and treats for two nights and the workshop fee.

ELTC is always busy in March with shows on the road, school residen-cies, and special events in Cape May. "Sherlock Holmes Adventure of the Norwood Builder" returns on March 15 and 16. With fi nancial support from New Jersey Theatre Alliance's "Stages Festival," ELTC is bringing actor/playwright James Rana to Cape May for a free juggling class for ages 8 on up on Monday, March 4 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. ELTC's artists-in-residence are working in two schools, culminating in performances that are free, and open to the public. The schools are Wildwood High School (middle school stu-dents) and West Cape May Elementary School.

4-H and County Library to Host "Legopalooza"COURT HOUSE - The
Rutgers Cooperative Ex-tension 4-H Youth Devel-opment Program and the Cape May County Library have teamed up to offer a day of Lego themed fun at the Lockwood Youth Cen-ter, 355 Courthouse – S. Dennis Road, Cape May Court House, NJ. This free family event is slated for Feb. 23, from 11 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The afternoon will include hands-on ac-tivities, screenings of brick fi lms and a Lego contest.
Legopalooza is designed to offer kids a taste of the 4-H fair experience; includ-ing opportunities to show-case original work, enjoy hands-on activities and re-ceive recognition for their efforts. Activities will be offered by staff from the Cape May County Library, 4-H staff and volunteers and 4-H Teen Ambassa-dors. The day will include screenings of stop motion “Brick” fi lms, Lego Mind-storms Robotics activities, and stations with Lego Games, Lego inspired print making and brick activities designed to engage kids in engineering challenges.
Participants are invited to bring their own Lego creations to showcase and enter in a Lego Contest. The contest includes two categories for 4 different age groups. The “Kit Build” category is for entries built according to instructions. ‘Kit Bash” entries are those that involved original con-struction or design. Age groups will include 5-8, 9-12, 13-16, and 17-Adult. Participation awards will be offered as well as awards for each age group. Group
entries can be entered, but should be entered in the age group of the oldest participant. Local educators and community members have been recruited to judge the contest.
The Cape May County Library is well known for their investment in Lego. Area branches of-fer monthly Lego Club Meetings “Legos are an avenue to promote literacy through storytelling. Our Lego Clubs also help young people develop positive social skills, through coop-erative building activities. ” explains Children’s Librar-ian Kellie Large.
The County’s new 4-H Agent, Julie Karavan, hopes to develop a series of coop-erative Lego programs with the County Library. “ 4-H promotes positive youth development for kids from kindergarten through one year out of high school. The library is the perfect venue for community clubs, and Lego has enormous appeal to a wide range of ages. I hope to partner with the County Library to establish Junior First Lego League groups as well as county Lego robotics programs.”
The event is free and open to the public. In order to help plan for the event, registration is requested. Arrangements can be made to drop off Lego entries in advance of the event. THE WILDWOODS – The United States Futsal Federation will host the Northeast Futsal Regional Championship on Feb. 16 through Feb. 18 at the Wildwoods Convention Center. This three-day, action-packed, indoor soc-cer tournament will take place from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. daily.
Futsal is a variant of soccer which is played on a smaller area and mainly played indoors. Futsal re-quires two teams with fi ve players each, one of those players being the goalkeep-er. Unlimited substitutes per team are permitted, but unlike some other forms of indoor soccer, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular soc-cer ball. The rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique

Community organiza-tions and food vendors will be set-up beginning at 10 a.m. at the Women's Civic Club, 96th Street and the Beach selling food and other items for purchase. Bring your beach chairs because our community bonfi re will be lit on the beach for the entire event also starting at 10 a.m.
