Around the House Volunteer Newsletter
With the holidays just around the corner, it takes a number of people to help make the House as fes ve as possible for the families that will be staying with us. Thank you all!
Thanksgiving Mt Olive Holiday Meal—On November 21st, Mt. Olive Bap st Church will be serving their Thanksgiving Holiday Meal at our Riley loca on.
Thanksgiving—On Thanksgiving day, dinner is once again being provided by our friends at Sco y’s Brewhouse and being served by the Isabell Carter family at Lime‐stone. Addi onal help is needed with set up and tear down. If you would like to help, please contact Rega Kowalski at rkowalski@rmh‐indiana.org or call her at 317‐241‐1566.
Decora ng Day—On Saturday, November 29th from 10am‐2 pm, Limestone will be transformed into a holiday wonderland. Linda Sa erfield is once again chairing this project. If you would like to help, please contact Connie Cripe at ccripe@rmh‐indiana.org.
Holiday Open House—Join us as we welcome the community to our annual holiday open house on December 4th! Santa’s Sweetshop (a.k.a. the Limestone conference room) will be filled with holiday goodies and a holiday dinner will be available. Of course we will have a variety of entertainment including Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as Ronald McDonald himself! More details will be included in the December volun‐teer newsle er and on our website. If you would like to help, please contact Pam Anderson at panderson@rmh‐indiana.org.
Christmas Mt Olive Holiday Meal—On December 19th, Mt. Olive Bap st Church re‐turns for their Christmas Holiday Meal at our Riley loca on.
Santa Shop—Registered families at Limestone will once again be able to visit Santa’s Shop (a.k.a the conference room) where they will have the opportuni es to shop for gi s for their loved ones. Santa’s Shop will be open December 18th through 24th. If you would like to help, sign up sheets are located in the front office at Limestone or you can contact Connie Cripe. Lisa Hull and Mike Rhinaman are chairing this event again this year.
De Decora ng Day—All good things must come to an end so on January 3rd from 10 am –2pm we will de‐decorate the House. Watch next month’s newsle er for more informa on or if you would like to help, please contact Connie Cripe.
The Holidays Will Be Here Before You Know It!
Mary Friend, Volunteer Resources Manager, caught Lori Ball, Guest Services Volunteer on Friday mornings at Limestone providing friendliness and compassion to a troubled guest.
“A woman came to the front office wan ng to check out cleaning sup-plies. Lori asked if this meant they got to go home and the woman broke into tears explaining that they were taking her niece’s baby
off life support and they did not know how much longer they would be staying. Lori showed great compassion by simply listen-ing to the woman, giving the guest her undivided a en on and a sup-por ve hug. The woman ended the conversa on by expressing the family’s apprecia on for every-thing the House had done for them. ” Thank you Lori!
Look Who Was Caught Rolling Out The Red Carpet?
Page 2
Remember—If you catch a volunteer or staff members rolling out the red carpet and demonstra ng excellent customer service, please submit a nomina on using the a ached nomina on form lis ng the criteria. Print‐ed copies of this form are also available in the volunteer mesheet binder at both Limestone and Riley.
Thank You Luke Gen le!
If you have been in the courtyard at Limestone, you have seen the fine work, Eagle Scout, Luke Gen le and his fellow scouts did during a recent visit. They cleared and cleaned the flower beds, planted bush‐es, perennials and bulbs, transplanted hostas, mulched and donated and installed a water foun‐tain, bench and art piece.
Luke organized the project, raised the money or found a donor for the materials, and supervised four other scouts.
Thank you Luke and Cathy Plump, one of our Mas‐ter Gar‐dener’s for helping make the courtyard so invi ng!
Kaizen Making a Change and Improvements
A huge thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the Kaizen project we did in May involving how to improve our referral, check‐in and check‐out process at our Limestone loca on. Thanks to your input, the following improvements have been made:
The referral form has been streamlined so we are only collec ng the necessary informa on needed to get a family on the wai ng list instead of col‐lec ng, “nice to know informa on”.
Check‐in is now shorter for our families because some of the informa on which used to be covered, can now be found in their room, when and where they need it.
A be er method to confirm room readiness was developed which eliminates guessing if a room is truly ready to be occupied.
Some of the forms that were used during check‐out were eliminated which shortened the me families spend is ge ng ready to go home.
More improvements are under construc on!
Congratula ons Lori!
Your Mike’s Carwash pass is in the mail.
