    This is the basic form used in Hymns and other

    music where there are no questions and answers

    between the melody and the harmony.

    QUESTION AND ANSWER TYPE

    This is the basic form used in some arrangements

    where the melody is played by one section and

    another section gives the answer.

    i.e. BACKYARD PARTY

    (A)

    INSTRUMENTATION SAME AS ABOVE EXCEPT THAT

    THE TROMBONE SECTION, ALONG WITH THE TENOR

    SAX, FRENCH HORN AND EUPHONIUM MAY PLAY THE

    ANSWERING PARTS.

    THE FLUTES, TROMPETS AND CLARINETS SHOULD

    PLAY THE SAME RHYTHM UNLESS YOU WANT TO

    ADD A LITTLE FLAVOR AND GIVE THE REED SECTION

    SOME TECHNICAL WORK.

    SECTION D

    BIG BAND OR STOCK

    ARRANGEMENT

    THE STANDARD ARRANGEMENT PATTERN SHOULD

    BE USED AT ALL TIMES.

    HOWEVER, ONE MUST SEEK ADVANCE HELP AS THIS

    CAN BE A CHALLENGE TO THE ARRANGER.

    NOT BECAUSE YOU MIGHT HAVE CREATE A N

    ACCEPTABLE ARRANGEMENT MEANS THAT YOU

    HAVE ARRIVED YOUR HAS JUST BEGUN.

    THIS TYPE CONSISTS OF BOTH WHAT IS PRESENTED

    TO THE ARRANGER AND HIS ABILITY TO COMPOSE

    ADDITIONAL MELODIES AND INNER PARTS TO MAKE

    THE RENDITION A WORK OF ART.

    i.e. IF I CAN HELP SOMEBODY

    REMEMBER, NO MAN IS AN ISLAND AND ONE SHOULD

    ALWAYS BE OPEN TO TOTAL CRITICISM BY THOSE

    WHO ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE.

  • ONE MUST, AT ALL TIMES, HAVE A KEEN SENSE OF

    RHYTHM AND HARMONY. IF YOU ARE POOR IN

    THESE SUBJECTS, THEN YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT

    TO EXPECT FORM YOUR ARRANGEMENT.

    EDUCATION IS THE KEY AT ALL TIMES.

    SECTION E

    THE TENOR SECTION

    FRENCH HORN EUPHONIUM

    TROMBONES SEAXOPHONES

    THIS IS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT SECTION

    IN THE BAND. ONE SHOULD UTILIZE THEM WITH

    CARE AND ATTENTION. THIS IS WHERE MOST OF

    YOUR HARMONIC STRUCTURES WILL BE INCLUDED.

    TROMBONES AND FRENCH HORN SHOULD ALWAYS

    CARRY THE RHYTHM OF THE GUITAR WHILE THE

    EUPHONIUM AND TENOR SAX CAN BE USE TO

    STRENGTHEN THE THIRD PART EITHER IN THE

    MELODY OR THE RHYTHM.

  • EXPOSE THE FLUTES ONLY WHEN THERE ARE LIGHT

    PASSAGES.

    USE UNITY AT TIMES, IT GIVES STRENGTH AND

    POWER TO YOUR MUSIC. THIS IS USUALLY NOTED IN

    THE TROMBONES.

    THE ART OF ORGANIZING RHYTHM AND NOTES INTO

    MEANINGFUL PATTERNS IS THE GREATEST TOOL

    THAT THE YOUNG ARRANGER CAN USE. TAKE

    ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORUNITY.

    WHEN IN DOUGHT, ASK QUESTIONS.
