600 Washington Property Profile

600 Washington Street,New York, NY 10014

THE BUILDINGModern, 24 hour doorman building in historic Greenwich Village THE NEIGHBORHOODThe West Village has a look and feel unlike much of NYC. Street borders that are made by the Avenue of Americas(Sixth Ave) over to the Hudson River and 14th Street down to Houston St, the West Village makes you feel as if youare in a small European city. Getting out of the of Manhattan's tall buildings and crowds of people found in otherareas of NYC, the West Village offers a laid-back feel where courtyards and small gardens can be found betweentownhouses on the neighborhood's residential blocks. The neighborhood is well known for being home to manyartists, writers and musicians.

The West Village is home to chic boutiques and high-end restaurants and bars. Babbo, Mario Batali’s Italianrestaurant is a notable standout. Access to the West Village is made easy with several NYC subway lines and thePATH train connecting the area to New Jersey.

My Pre-Theater choice:

BeccoLocated on Restaurant Row46th Street between 8th & 9th Avenues.http://becco-nyc.com

“Becco is one of Famed Chef Lidia Bastianich’s restaurants she openedwith her son Joe over 20 years ago. Be sure to arrive hungry, myfavorite is the Sinfonia di Paste which includes a salad, antipasta andunlimited table side preparation of three pasta dishes. Another highlightis the extensive wine list, and all wines are twenty five dollars.”

Off the Beaten Path:

Risotteria MelottiLower East Side309 5th Street between 1st & 2nd Avenueswww.risotteriamelottinyc.com

“This is a charming restaurant with a great story. The rice is grown onthe Melotti family farm outside of Verona, Italy. The family opened theirfirst restaurant near their Italian village. Last spring the family decided toopen their second restaurant in New York on the lower east side. Therisotto is cooked perfectly. I suggest the Arancia e Granchio (with MaineCrab meat). The service is outstanding and you can even purchase theorganic rice and rice flour to give risotto-making a try at home. I almostforgot to mention all meals are without gluten.”

sportsYankee Baseball: Derek Jeter's Farewell Season“Fewer things I like to do more on a summer evening than watch baseball. Sure today’s TVs have high definitionwhere you can feel like you are at the stadium, but there is something magical when you are actually at YankeeStadium. My earliest memories take me to the Stadium when my father left work early to make sure we were therefor batting practice — I caught a ball Billy Martin threw into the stands. Years later at 35, I caught a foul ball A-Rodhit down the first base line. Yankee Stadium is the field that holds both tradition and promise. It is considered sacredground in the baseball world. This year we are going to say goodbye to Derek Jeter like we did last year to Mariano

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour“The TD Five Boro Bike Tour Presented by REI offers32,000 cyclists the opportunity to bike through all fiveboroughs–Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island–on streets totally void of traffic. Theevent is co-produced by Bike New York and the NewYork City Department of Transportation.

Unfortunately, standard registration to participate inthis event is now closed. You can still register as aVIP, which is a bit pricier but certainly worth the priceof admission. Whether you decide to don a helmet ornot- if you’re in the City that day, seeing 30,000+bikes cruising by on NYC streets will be a spectacle tobehold indeed.’’

On 5/4/14 be on the lookout for two intrepid Premiercyclists who will ride in the tour; StevenAvalos and myself. Steven will chronicle the event onhis GoPro Camera and offer his insights on the 20145BBT on his website at:

live music in "da boroughs"The Northside Music Festival

“Maybe you didn’t make it to Austin for the infamousSouth by Southwest music and media conference, butyou can still get your indie-rock music fix withWilliamsburg’s 6th annual Northside Music Festival.

Coming in June, nearly every music venue inWilliamsburg and Greenpoint- Brooklyn will claim hostto a combined 400 bands. Any place from dive bar tomusic hall will feature the up-and-coming garagetalent of a creative and blogger-marketed youth.Focus groups will also revolve around art, film, technology, and design. Last year was a real eye-opener for me when I stumbled across my next-favorite live band; The Harmonica Lewinski’s. (I’vehad about seven favorite bands since then).’’

in my opinionWhy I Love Jazz After Dark In NYC “Ok, I’ll admit it. I’m one of the “elder statesmen” at Premier. Go easy on the old-guy jokes. We have a young staffhere. This puts me in the unenviable position of being, among other things, a stalwart fan of classic and modernjazz. For those of you in the know, jazz is considered a true American art form. It was born and raised here in theUSA and in many ways helped shape the social scene in New York City. Sadly, it’s a dying genre among today’smusic tastes. Jazz isn’t an exciting feature at The Grammys and jazz artists are no longer household names. Let’sface it- we may never see an artist like Dee Dee Bridgewater perform at the halftime show of the Super Bowl.Despite the decline of my beloved jazz, there are still great places to listen to live jazz in New York City. Many ofthese venues have historic pasts like the Village Vanguard, which launched the career of jazz legend; TheloniusMonk. Others like Minton’s on West 118th Street have been newly renovated yet still pay homage to days pastwhen a ticket to sit in on a set by a noteworthy trio or quartet might have been one of the hottest in town. There’sstill something special and electric about seeing a live performance at a New York City jazz standard. Perhaps it’sthe charm of these small, dark venues that enable you to sit so close to the performers. Or the diversity of theiraudiences that appear to arrive from nowhere and hail from all corners of the globe. And of course there’s themusic; driven by improvisation and never played quite the same way twice.

Music fans, if you’re looking to try something new- I recommend you pick up a copy of TimeOut NY. Check the locallistings and take in a set at one of NYC’s jazz standards. You won’t soon forget it.”

I hope to see you there.
