ARTISTS AND ACTIVITIES

PIET MONDRIAN (1872-1944)

The paintings by Piet Mondrian are famous because they are full of rectangles and straight lines. Mondrian used the primary colours: red, blue, and yellow. He also used black and white.

Mondrian Task 1. Draw a draft in the style of Piet Mondrian. Use pencil. 2. Think of a title for your work. 3. When you finish, draw the final version on a white card. 4. Start with pencil and finish your work with felt tip pens. Materials you need Ruler, set square, pencil, and felt tip pens (red, blue, yellow and black).

WASSILY KANDINSKY (1866-1944)

Kandinsky was interested in colour. He used colour to show emotion. Kandinsky used shapes and lines in his artwork: circles, squares, triangles, etc. He also used straight and curvy lines.

Kandinsky Task 1. Draw a draft in the style of Kandinsky. Use pencil. 2. Think a title for your work. 3. When you finish, draw the final version on a coloured card. 4. Start with pencil and finish your work with coloured chalk. Materials you need Pencil, ruler, set square, coloured chalk, felt tip pens.

JOAN MIRÓ (1893-1982)

Joan Miró got ideas from organic forms: bugs, birds, animals. He liked drawing skies with stars and moons. The artist loved bright colours. He used red, yellow, blue, green and black. He also used black lines to finish his works. Joan used shapes and lines in his work: circles, triangles, squares and some other shapes. Miró Task 1. Draw a draft in the style of Joan Miró. 2. Think of a title for your work. 3. When you finish, draw the final version on a white card. 4. Start with pencil and finish your work with paints. Materials you need Pencil, brushes, water, paints (yellow, cyan, and magenta).

EDVARD MUNCH (1863-1944) His paintings are about: love, fear, death, melancholia, and anxiety. He showed his feelings in his work. He uses curvy lines to express his anxiety. Munch Task 1. Draw a draft in the style of Edvard Munch. 2. Think of a title for your work. 3. Think of a feeling and how to express it for your photograph. 4. When you finish draw the final version on a white card. 5. Stick your photograph on the worksheet. 6. Start with pencil and finish your work using hard wax colours 7. Decide which colour is the most appropriate to show your feeling. Materials you need Pencil, hard wax colours, felt tip pens, a photograph.
