Tour of Artists' Homes & StudiosCelebrates 18th Year

Following what has become a popular, beautiful and educational tradition, Larson Gallery Guild once again invites you to “Living With Art” the 18th annual Tour of Artists’ Homes and Studios. The tour will take place on May 20, 2017 from 10AM to 4PM and will feature five homes/studios of artists and one home of a prolific art collector.

This year promises to be an amazing year. The ever-popular artist, Leo Adams, has agreed to open his home/studio for the tour. His reputation is widely known; his work widely purchased. Other artists are Bernadette Crider, porcelain artist; Carolyn Nelson, sculptress and painter; Pamela Searcy, bronze work and painter; and new to our classifications – “industrial artist” Nate Monick. His wood and metal works are crafted in his shop, Atlas and Cedar. His first big installation was Cowiche Canyon Kitchen. In addition we present the large collection of artworks at the beautiful home of “quilt” artist, Ann Stohl.

Each artist will present items for sale. Not only do you see the work, you meet the artist in their milieu. Each “host” artist has invited a few other artists to display and sell their items, so the tour is an opportunity to see and purchase from a variety of artists.

Tickets ($20.00 and $5.00 for students) may be purchased at the Larson Gallery, Yakima Bindery, and OH! Oak Hollow Gallery and Frames. The ticket book contains directions to each tour stop allowing you to proceed as you wish.

Cascadian CameraClub at Gilbert Cellars

On March 23 the Cellar Gallery at Gilbert Cellars enjoyed an evening of the photographic creativity of the Cascadian Camera Club. This exhibit will be on view at Gilbert Cellars through the end of May. Stop and visit when you are in the tasting room and ask to wander downstairs.

MerciLuncheon at Carousel

Merci means 'thank you' and is an opportunity to thank everyone who works with you every day. This fundraiser for the Larson Gallery Guild will be held at the Carousel restaurant on April 26. A few tickets are still available. Please contact the Larson Gallery to reserve your seat.

40th National Photography ExhibitionEngaging

March came in like a lion with many opportunities to enjoy new art around town. Larson Gallery enjoyed a warm crowd at the opening of the 40th National

Juried Photography Exhibition. The call for artists received 257 entries from 89 artists. Photographers from California, Kentucky, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, New York, Missouri, and Washington were selected for this exhibit. Julia Dolan, who is the Minor White Curator of Photography at the Portland Art Museum, served as juror and chose 68 photographs for the final exhibition. The idea for a photograph exhibition began with Herb Blisard, YVC photography instructor, who hung photos on a clothesline on the campus grounds. Now the call reaches nationally and is a show that photographers anticipate.

Terracotta Warriors Day TourThe Larson Gallery and Yakima Valley College Department of Visual Arts team up to tour the Terracotta Warriors exhibit

Terracotta Warriors of the First Emperor is a one-of-a-kind exhibition premiering at Pacific Science Center in Seattle featuring artifacts from the first imperial dynasty of China. The expansive collection of terracotta statues—including soldiers, civil officials, and entertainers—tells the story of the culture, craft and science of one of history’s most monumental endeavors–the tomb of the Qin emperor. The day tour will leave from YVC at 6:45am on May 17 and return by 7pm. Tickets include transportation, an IMAX film, and entrance to the exhibition. Ticket prices: $55.00 Adults 16-64, $49.00 Youth 6-15, $45.00 Child 3-5, $52.00 Senior 65+. Tickets must be purchased from the Larson Gallery by April 14. Limited seating.

Yakima Valley College PlaymastersThe play RED written by John Logan, about artist Mark Rothko, will be performed in the Larson Gallery the evenings of April 20 and 21 at 7:30PM and a matinee on Saturday, April 22 at 2:00PM.

Mark Rothko, born Markus Yakovlevich Rothkowitz, was an American painter of Russian Jewish descent who immigrated to the U.S. in 1913. Rothko is known for painting rectangular fields of color and light. He completed 836 works on canvas during his lifetime.

The play takes place in Rothko's New York Studio from 1958 to 1959, where he is painting murals commissioned for him by a New York restaurant. Mark Rothko, played by Yakima Valley College instructor Timothy Jeske, gives orders to his assistant Ken, played by Yakima Valley College recent graduate Cody Jordan. As Ken mixes the paints, he questions the concept of Rothko's work being used for such a commercial venture.

The play is directed by Ray Pritchard, Drama instructor for YVC and Kendall Hall Technical Director. Tickets are $30 per person and will be available in the Larson Gallery and online at larsongallery.org. Seats were sold out to our previous play, ART, so get yours early! Proceeds from these performances will benefit the Larson Gallery Guild and Yakima Valley College Playmasters. All performances will be held in the Larson Gallery at Yakima Valley College.
