ART LAB: WINTER

“THE SPANISH SNOWMAN”

GOALS:

The aim of this craft is getting to know typical Spanish winter things by making a Snowman.

TECHNIQUE:

COLLAGE

MATERIALS:

- Beans, red beans and lentils stews are usually eaten in Spain, especially in winter:

We will use these legumes to cover the snowman’s body.

- Oranges peel oranges are a seasonal fruit in winter, and the Spanish ones, especially from Valencia, are really good:

We will use orange peel to make the snowman’s nose.- Roasted chestnut peels roasted chestnuts are typically

eaten in winter in Spain. They are commonly sold in the streets:

We will use chestnut peels to cover the ground.

- Chocolate curls and white and yellow plasticine hot chocolate and “churros” are eaten in Spain, especially when it’s cold:

We will use chocolate curls and white and yellow plasticine to make a hot chocolate cup with “churros”.

- Raisins in Spain, at 12 o’clock on New Year’s Eve, everybody eats 12 grapes. It’s believed that they bring you good luck!

We will stick raisins to represent this event.

- Paper Crown / Markers the Three Wise Men typically bring presents the 6th January:

The Spanish Snowman will wear a crown to represent this date.We may stick a paper crown or draw it with markers.

- Red and orange wool these colours represent the Spanish flag:

We will use them to make the Snowman’s scarf.

- And of course GLUE! to stick everything together!
