As part of the annual allocations process, two sets of volunteer committees convened in April and May to ensure that Allied Arts donor contributions are invested in healthy, sustainable and relevant cultural nonprofit organizations.

After independent review of agency budgets, 990s, audits and other documentation, the allocations finance committee convened for a full day to assess the financial well-being of Allied Arts member agencies. Consisting of bankers, accountants and executives, the committee determined that Allied Arts member agencies are on solid administrative and financial footing.

A few weeks later, the allocations committee listened to presentations delivered by member agency staff and board leadership over a three-day period. This committee’s focus was on community impact and caliber of program delivery. As such, presentations covered agency successes and challenges, numbers of people reached with programming and organizational plans for growth. Committee members were moved by performances from young artists and from the stories shared by students, parents and teachers that the arts can help a child find his/her voice.

As recommended by the allocations committee, the Allied Arts board of directors approved more than $2.5 million to be granted during the upcoming 2020 fiscal year via three grant programs. Allocations grants are directed to Allied Arts member agencies; the educational outreach program provides critical funding to ensure school-age children have access to arts education and cultural opportunities; and the capacity-building grant program helps arts nonprofits become stronger. The latter two programs are open to qualified, arts and cultural nonprofits based in central Oklahoma.

The deadline for the next cycle of educational outreach and capacity-building grant requests is August 23, 2019. For more information, please contact [email protected].

Volunteer of the YearEvery year, an Allied Arts volunteer is recognized with the Zach D. Taylor Award, created after the passing of one of Allied Arts’ most ardent champions. Like the award’s namesake, honorees seek no recognition for his/her service and place a high value on accountability, accessibility, inclusiveness, preparedness, and receptiveness to new ideas and perspectives.

At the Campaign Celebration event on June 6, Ann-Clore Duncan was named the 2019 Zach D. Taylor Volunteer. In the 2019 Allied Arts fiscal year alone, Duncan served on the Allied Arts executive committee and was a key member of a task force leading an organizational HR and development audit. With her husband Walt, she served as co-chair of the Allied Arts 2017 fundraising campaign.

“I can’t imagine life without music, art, dance, theater, and the many other art genres. How flat and uninspired our lives would be. Exposure to the arts creates a spark, hope, joy, and the nurturing of our souls and mental well-being,” Duncan said. “Art is an absolute must in our lives.”

Former award winners include Dr. Mason Jett, Lonny Towell, Joan Maguire, Debbie Nauser, Jean Hartsuck, Lance Benham, Carl Shortt Jr., Steve Mason, Carol Troy and Glen Maynard.

CONGRATULATIONS to Ann-Clore Duncanon this well-deserved recognition!

Virtuoso Society: Honor the Arts in Your Planned Giving

Did you know that you can make a gift to Allied Arts in exchange for tax deductions and lifetime income? There are numerous ways to join the Virtuoso Society by making a gift to the Allied Arts endowment funds, including through your investment accounts, retirement plans, a charitable remainder trust, or through a

charitable gift annuity in exchange for a tax deduction and lifetime income stream.

Allied Arts President & CEO Receives Governor’s Arts Award

On April 16 at the State Capitol, Governor Kevin Stitt presented Allied Arts President & CEO Deborah McAuliffe Senner with a 2019 Governor’s Arts Award. A program of the Oklahoma Arts Council since 1975, the Governor’s Arts Awards has recognized hundreds of individuals and organizations whose efforts have impacted the arts in their communities or throughout the state.

Senner received the Community Service Award which recognizes significant contributions to the arts in specific Oklahoma communities in the areas of leadership and volunteerism. Senner has been with Allied Arts for 18 years and is celebrating her 10th anniversary as President and CEO. During her tenure, she has overseen the launch of innovative fundraising strategies that have generated more than $45 million in support of more than 40 central Oklahoma arts and cultural organizations.

Allied Arts President Named to Oklahoma Nonprofit Council

Allied Arts is proud to announce that President & CEO Deborah McAuliffe Senner has been selected to serve on the newly formed Oklahoma Nonprofit Council. The council includes leaders from 25 of the state’s major nonprofits which represent Oklahoma City, Tulsa and rural areas, as well as more than 19,000 organizations working on critical arts and culture, social service, environmental and other issues.

Established by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, the council will advise the state agency and the Legislature on matters related to the nonprofit sector. We are proud to have the arts and Oklahoma’s cultural nonprofits represented on the council. Congratulations, Deborah!
