Nadezhda Strelkina (maiden name Burbysheva) was born in the small village of Fedoskino, not far from Moscow.

Nadezhda comes from a well known family of several generations of artists. At the turn of the century her great-grandfather owned a lacquer box factory, "Burbyshev's Workshop", famous for painted cigar boxes, snuffboxes and goblets. The Bolshevik revolution put an end to private ownership and the "Burbyshev's Workshop" ceased to exist. However the skills of traditional craftsmanship have continued to be passed on from generation to generation, and the new Fedoskino Lacquer Painting College and Workshop were created in the late 1920's.

Nadezhda inherited gifts for painting were developed by the teaching of the old world masters, and she learned the multi-layered use of oils while studying for four years in the Lacquer Painting College in Fedoskino Village. While many of her college classmates have shown good command of copying technique, Nadezhda has always been regarded to be a uniquely gifted painter of original works. Inspired by old Russian legends, folk stories, and religious beliefs, Nadezhda's works are dreamlike images of angelic women that evoke emotion and even spiritual feelings in the viewer. She paints in a most subtle manner and is especially known for her soft, flawless faces, delicate postures, and masterful translucent technique that captures the essence of the feminine beauty.

Her painting on gold leaf captures the beauty of gold-embroidered boyar attire. Nadezhda must have inherited the knack of using gold and silver, which look prominent and simultaneously delicate. Her talent, which allows her to convey a happy and invigorating mood in her pictures, is extraordinary. You can feel the vitality emanating from Nadezhda's works - a keenly depicted move, an expression that's just right. Her feel for proportions is most amazing. Often commissioned for State orders, here art connoisseurs from Russia, United States and other parts of the world.

Since 1995 Nadezhda's art work has been licensed in the United States, and has become very popular. The creation of the highly acclaimed "Symphony of Angels" porcelain plate collection for the Bradford Exchange has won her the prestigious "1997 Collector's Choice New Artist of the Year" award. Many of her works have been transformed into collectable treasures and shipped to different countries. Her art is much sought after in the US and Europe. The new opportunities in art licensing have given Nadezhda the ability to share her elegant creativity with a vast number of art lovers all over the world. "Nadezhda" translates into English as "Hope", and she is indeed full of hope for the future. One of her dreams is to continue sharing love and poetry of her paintings with many viewers around the world. In her early forties, Nadezhda lives in Moscow with her husband and their teenage son. In the hot Moscow summers, Nadezhda likes to stay in Fedoskino Village where the lush pastel landscapes fill her soul with hope and inspiration.
