Materials and Activities for Creative Expression
Collage-Pretty much anything can be used. Poster board or cardboard are good sufaces (somethingsturdy) to glue images onto.-Magazines, photographs, ribbons, buttons, feathers, glitter, sequins, small personal items, tacky glue, hot-glue gun, etc...etc...
Sculpture-Polymer clay-sculpy, fimo, etc are great to work with and stay soft and pliable for monthsbefore baking (I use a toaster oven instead of my'food'oven)-Air dry clay is also good although it cracks and breaks easily when dry-Various tools are available for purchase or you can use just about anything that will helpshape and cuVcarue into soft sudaces.-Found object sculptures are great and can be constructed with literalfy anything.
Paper-pulp Masks-Various collage items are also appropriate for the masks, as are paint markers and acrylic, tempera or watercolor paints.
Prayer Flags-Fabric such as brightly colored cotton (single colors) or muslin works wonderfully for theflags. The fabric can be cut into squares-sizes from B" x B" to L2' x t2" tend to work well.-Wooden dowels ironed into the top with stitch-witch are a great way to hang the flag (if it is asingle panel). A cord can be tied to each end of the dowel as well and the flag can besuspended from the cord, or a cord can simply be ironed or sewn into a fold at the top of theflag without the dowel (this works well if you are using several panels.-Wooden beads can be tied at the edges of each panel to keep a bit of space between them.
Small Altars or Sacred Memory Containers-Small boxes (with or without lids) can be adorned with paper mache, paint, found objects, personal items, words, etc. (truly anything that can be used for collage).
Affirmation C;rds-Thin cardboard cut into rectangles are great for applying photo images or other personalimages, words, excerpts of poetry, symbols etc.
Hope Bracelets or Talismans-Can be made with any type of beads, charms and any other item that can be strung onstretchy cord or non-stretchy cord.
Wind Chimes-Small befls and beads can be attached to various rings, w@d, polymer clay shapes, shells, you name it...(Can be made personal by using personal items & the idea that the bells chimingare memories of loved-one).
Sound and Rhythm-A sound phrase can be created depicting the sound of grief or healing.
*The ideas are limitless and sometimes we only have to take that first step and try something out!
