GoalI would like to research arts, or as you see already have.

I want to study how they shaped pottery, and why they made certain shaped plates and cups. I would also like to research how they made makeup and how they coloured it. I wonder how they made certain music for special occasions. I will present it by power point, and I am aiming to work on it for one day. It seems like a lot of work, but I got it done!!

Makeup Beauty played an important part in Egyptian society, and

makeup was part of being beautiful. Even men wore makeup!! But not just men and women wore it, statues, and gods and goddesses wore it too. They valued it so much that it was worn in the afterlife. The favourite eye makeup colours were black and green. They thought that the more beautiful you are the closer you are to the gods. The very first cosmetics were put in special jars and packed away in makeup boxes to be kept safe. They thought that have make up on they were closer to the gods.

JewelleryJewellery was not just valued for its beauty but for the

protection it provided. The Egyptians used gold, lapis lazuli, amethyst and turquoise. The Egyptians loved to wear beautiful necklaces, rings, earrings, amulets and bracelets. Amulets were worn from childbirth through death. Because jewellery was so religious it played an important role in the afterlife. Actually Egyptians collected as much protective jewellery as they could so they could be buried with it.

Pottery Sculptures Pictures and PaintingsThere were different kinds of crafts people. Sculptors

carved things out of rock and wood, but carpenters made furniture. Some crafts people used Faiencing to make cups, bowls and plates. Faiencing was done by heating powdered Quartz and shaping it into to many different types of molds. Some designs were put on pieces of artwork. Also some jars that were made needed a stand because they had pointed bottoms.

The instrumentsSome instruments are the crash, which is two bronze

symbols, like we have today. Another on is called the five string harp. This is made out of animal guts and wood. The animal guts were used to make the strings. Last but not least, The Sacred Rattle. It was made out of metal. They also had instruments like drums, rattles and tambourines. These are like the instruments we have today.

Why they made musicThe Egyptians made music because they liked Music.

Music was used at festivals so people could dance . They also had music at funerals, but obviously the music would be much slower than at the festivals. They did not write down anything on papyrus to be discovered today, so we can’t reconstruct any of the music but we can still imagine what they sounded like...

Reflection I liked doing arts, my favourite part was learning about there culture behind the art and music. I also liked learning what they used to make the jewellery. I didn’t know that they had many instruments like we have today, so that was very cool to learn about. Also I thought that makeup wasn’t that commonly used by the egyptians. The only thing was that I don't like about this is doing a self-directed study, but I liked doing arts. It was very fun to learn about.

Resources I used the book 100 things you should know about

ancient Egypt, some web links called Aldokkan. It is very useful and has everything you should know about ancient egypt. I also used the book called ancient Egypt that my dad has at home.
