ArtAspen pays homage to the city’s well-earned reputation as a smart and sophisticated center for fine art. Now in its 6th successful year, ArtAspen is a “must attend” for these art patrons, collectors and enthusiasts. Philanthropy is the theme this year, as the fair raises funds for six deserving local non-profits through silent auctions of artwork. 6-6:30 pm: Meet 2015 Honorary Artist Bernie TaupinAt his retrospective entitled Blue Print, curated by Mark Borghi Fine Art Interview with Aspen Public Radio Bernie taupin is not only a serious and in-demand painter who has shown in solo exhibitions all over the nation, he is also known for his 48 year collaboration with Elton John. His paintings can be described as Abstractions meet Color Field on thick dramatic layers of paint. Much of his work is rooted in the tradition of his idols, Mark Rothko, Clifford still, and Barnett Newman.

Discover the works by master artist Po Kim, who founded the Dept. of Fine Arts at Chosun university. tortured in Korea during Korean War, he moved to America in 1955, and gravitated to NYC by the NY school AbEx movement, where his artist life flourished for 6 decades. His works are in the permanent collection guggenheim Museum, National Museum of Contemporary Arts in Korea, Chicago Art Institute, seoul Art Center, and Hanlim Art Museum.

ArtAspen to Award 2015 Honorary Artist to California Based Abstract Painter Bernie Taupin On Friday, August 14th, 6-6:30pm, at the fair’s retrospective of his work, entitled, Blue Print, which will be presented and curated by Mark Borghi Fine Art. this award presentation will take place during the Anderson Ranch Art Center fundraiser at the fair. Mr. taupin is considered America’s greatest songwriter, as evidenced by his 48 year collaboration with Elton John.

“to quote Duke Ellington, everyone should be proficient in two things,” says taupin. “Music & Art is an inevitable collision. I’ve always maintained that music is sonic art for the ears and that artwork is visual music for the eyes, it’s ridiculous to assume that the two can’t exist in the same vortex.”

“I personally gravitated from one to the other because I desired to create on a different topical level and simply because visceral visual art exerts an almost narcotic drive in me. Composition of song took up so little of my time perhaps all told a month a year! Art is with me 24/7.”
