CAmpuS méDiCo SAN joSé

En el año 2002, la Fundación Rozas Botrán donó un terreno en el Km.

28.5 carretera a Bárcenas Santa Lucía Milpas Altas, Sacatepéquez,

Guatemala, para dar atención digna a los más desamparados. En ese

lugar se instalaron el Hospital Hospicio San José, el Instituto para la

Investigación Científica y la Educación acerca de las Enfermedades

Genéticas y Metabólicas Humanas y el Centro para la Restauración

del Patrimonio Artístico (CREA).

iNvEGEm

El Instituto para la Investigación Científica y la Educación acerca

de las Enfermedades Genéticas y Metabólicas Humanas atiende a

individuos y familias afectados por enfermedades hereditarias de

origen genético que se evidencian en la población lainoamericana.

Estre otras funciones, coopera con la formación de recurso humano

especializado en salud.

hoSpiCio hoSpiTAL SAN joSé

El Hospicio de San José fue fundado en Guatemala en 1989. Es una

entidad no gubernamental y no lucrativa, con proyección social a nivel

nacional. Atiende a niños VIH positivo que han sido expuestos al virus

y niños que son seronegativos como pacientes internos, así como a

niños y adultos VIH positivos, pacientes que han sido expuestos al

virus y aquéllos que son seronegativos de forma ambulatoria. Canaliza

las donaciones de los bienhechores de forma racional, responsable y

óptima, para aliviar el sufrimiento de los pacientes en forma integral.

CREA

El Centro de Rescate, Estudio y Análisis Científico para el Arte surge

para dar un soporte científico a la práctica de la conservación del

patrimonio artístico y a la restauración de bienes culturales en Guatemala.

CREA complementa su función con el apoyo a las actividades de la

Fundación Rozas Botrán en materia de manejo y conservación de

obras de arte.

ARTE EN LAS CALLES

Fundación Rozas Botrán -en alianza con -EUGUA- Equipamientos

Urbanos de Guatemala y PASEO CAYALÁ, presenta anualmente un

Corredor Cultural en la ciudad de Guatemala. Durante cuatro semanas,

el mobiliario urbano de publicidad iluminada, conocido como mupi,

exhibe una colección de diez pinturas, convirtiendo a la ciudad en

una gran galería al aire libre.

LA GALERÍA RoZAS BoTRÁN

En el año 2012, La Fundación Rozas Botrán abrió sus puertas al

público por medio de la Galería Rozas Botrán ubicada en la zona 14.

Paralelamente, por medio de una alianza, instaló una extensión en

Paseo Cayalá. Estos espacios funcionan para presentar arte visual,

esencialmente pintura y escultura. Se han instituido para sumarse a

los esfuerzos que la Fundación Rozas Botrán realiza para el desarrollo

social, enfocado hacia el beneficio de los sectores de salud, cultura

y arte que apoya.

GALERÍA vivA

La Galería Viva es un concepto nuevo de la Fundación Rozas-Botrán,

en colaboración con Paseo Cayalá, que promoverá diferentes tipos

de arte y diseño para atraer a una audiencia nueva al mundo del

arte. La idea es que el arte, en vez de ser exclusivo, sea inclusivo y

para todos. La galería se mantendrá “viva” y dinámica durante cada

exhibición usando el espacio como un estudio para los artistas y

como un taller para la audiencia.

GALERÍA ABiERTA

Para reforzar la divulgación de las actividades culturales y artísticas

en Paseo Cayalá, la Fundación Rozas Botrán ha iniciado un concepto

innovador por medio de la intervención del espacio de la calle principal

que se abre a la Gran Plaza de Cayalá. Los visitantes encontrarán

información de las actividades que se desarrollan en el área, así como

una reseña de los artistas que la Fundación presenta.

La Fundación Rozas Botrán presenta la decimoquinta edición consecutiva

del Festival de Arte en Mayo, como parte de una serie de actividades

enfocadas hacia el beneficio de los sectores más vulnerables de

Guatemala y la región centroamericana.

Esta actividad se logra gracias a una alianza establecida con artistas

visuales nacionales e internacionales por medio de un vínculo de

solidaridad que nos acerca a la realidad humana y social de los más

necesitados con un sentimiento de fraternidad. Los creadores de

arte donan un porcentaje del valor de la obra para contribuir con las

instituciones que la Fundación Rozas Botrán alberga en el Campus

Médico San José.

La selección de la obra está guiada por la calidad. Durante un mes,

ésta se exhibe en el Museo Nacional de Arte Moderno Carlos Mérida.

La Fundación ofrece al público asistente seriedad y credibilidad en

cada producción.

ARTE en MAYO es un evento incluyente, que hace un llamado al

coleccionista y a todas aquellas personas que aman el arte y que están

conscientes de que un país culto es un país humano y desarrollado.

SAN joSé mEDiCAL CAmpuS

The Rozas Botrán Foundation donated in 2002, a plot of land located

on the road to Bárcenas, Santa Lucía Milpas Altas, in the department

of Sacatepéquez, Guatemala, where the Hospital and Hospice San

José, the Science and Education Institute for Human Genetic and

Metabolic Disease Research, and the Center for Artistic Heritage

Restoration (CREA) are located. These institutions were established

with the objective to offer dignified attention to those in most need.

iNvEGEm

The Science and Education Institute for Human Genetic and Metabolic

Disease Research is an organization conceived for the assistance

of individuals and families affected by the most prevalent hereditary

diseases of genetic origin in the American continent population. Within

its main functions is to cooperate in the formation of care givers

specialized in health.

SAN joSé hoSpiCE AND hoSpiTAL

San José Hospice was founded in Guatemala in 1989. It is a non-

government, non-profit organization with a national social scope.

It assists children who have tested HIV positive, children who may

be exposed to the virus, and seronegative children as inpatients. It

also assists in an outpatient basis children and adults who are HIV

positive, patients who have been exposed to HIV and those who are

seronegative. It channels all donations in a responsible and optimal

way in order to alleviate each and every patient in an integral manner.

CREA

The Center for the Scientific Salvage, Study and Analysis of Art emerged

in order to give scientific support to the practice of artistic heritage

conservation and the restoration of cultural assets in Guatemala.

CREA complements its work by supporting the activities organized by

the Rozas Botrán Foundation for the management and conservation

of artwork.

ART iN ThE STREETS

The Rozas Botrán Foundation, in alliance with Urban Equipment of

Guatemala -EUGUA- and Paseo Cayalá, has presented a Cultural

Passage in Guatemala City. Illuminated advertising urban furnishings,

known as mupis, exhibit a collection of ten paintings for four weeks,

turning the city into a grand open-air art gallery.

ThE RoZAS BoTRÁN GALLERy

In 2012, the Rozas Botrán Foundation opened its doors to the public

through the Rozas Botrán Gallery, located in zone 14. At the same

time, and through an alliance with Paseo Cayalá, it opened a gallery

branch in its mall. These venues present visual art, essentially painting

and sculpture, in order to contribute to the Foundation’s efforts for

social development benefiting the health, culture, and art sectors it

supports.

LivE GALLERy

The live gallery is a new concept of the Rozas Botrán Foundation,

with the collaboration of Paseo Cayalá. It promotes different types

of art and design activities in order to attract a new audience to the

world of the arts. The idea is that art should not be exclusive, but

inclusive and for all. The gallery will stay “alive” and dynamic during

each exhibit using the venue as a study for artists and a workshop

for the audience.

opEN GALLERy

In order to reinforce the diffusion of its cultural and artistic activities in

Paseo Cayalá, the Rozas Botrán Foundation has started an innovative

concept through activities on its main street, which opens into the Grand

Cayalá Plaza. Visitors find information about the activities taking place

in the area, as well as reviews of artist supported by the Foundation.

The Rozas Botrán Foundation presents the fifteenth consecutive

edition of its ART IN MAY Festival as one of a series of activities it

organizes to benefit the most vulnerable sectors of Guatemala and

the Central American region.

This activity may take place thanks to an alliance established with

national and international visual artists through a solidarity liaison,

bringing everyone involved closer, with a sense of fraternity, to the

human and social reality of those in most need. The artists donate

a percentage of the value of their works of art in order to contribute

with the institutions that the Rozas Botrán Foundation maintains at

the San José Medical Campus.

The artwork is selected for its quality, and then exhibited for a month

at the Carlos Mérida National Museum of Modern Art. Attendants

are offered seriousness and credibility in each production. ART IN

MAY is an inclusive event, catering to collectors and art lovers who

know that a cultured country is a more humane and developed one.

In Latin American culture, that which is collective –understood as

that which is grouped o united- is related to the workshop structure

in the production of art and hand-crafts. It is rooted in the teaching

practices of the Art Academy. The concept also applies to the

work done in advertising and entertaining, as well as to the pro-

duction of movies, videos and new information and communication

technologies.

Art collectives have emerged in time, when it has been necessary.

Artists associate as part of their job and groups form in response

to specific conditions, when there is a particular task to be done.

Associated members have used their groups to achieve certain

influence in the world of art which has traditionally been dominated

by curators, institution directors and gallery owners. Artists organize

themselves to improve difficult situations as to help their art reach

the public, among other things.

Throughout group work, art collectives guarantee and project public

and social roles of art, searching for artistic association in education,

workshops, museums and others. The industry does not worry about

these aspects and that role is not found in the production of decorative

objects.

In Guatemala, the first collectives of artists and writers began to emerge

during the Modern Period. This group work, featured by constant

research and self-criticism, had its main exponent in the collective

Vértebra. During the Twenty-first Century, four groups have stood

out: La Torana, Comunicarte, Made in Guatemala, and the Cerrito

del Carmen School.

mADE iN GuATEmALA

This collective strives on the principle of alternation or exchange of

its own perspective for that of the other’s, taking under consideration

its point of view, world conception, interests and ideologies, as well

as not relying on only one possible solution.

As a group, these women have found in their artistic-aesthetic practice

the right medium to rethink and evaluated their possibilities in the visual

art field. The group members have created a space which promotes

an environment for research in the face of today’s conditions and

changes in spite of the fact that they find themselves in a cultural

world where, very often, women’s ability to multi-task is doubted.

These women laugh at the label they were given at the beginning of

their careers: “little ladies who paint”. Today, they properly identify

themselves with the latest artistic trends, within academia. Their

regular working meetings feature discussions, critiques, agreements

and disagreements, along with happy times and profound sorrows

brought on by their personal and daily lives.

Some working in closer collaboration than others, their group work

continues to manifest topics intertwined by a tenuous and delicate

conducting thread. The collective, today reduced in number, continues

to recreate and reinvent Guatemalan traditional painting. The members

work intensely, and constantly produce surprising works of art. They

are Tache Ayala, Mayra Klée, Carol Yurrita de Maselli, Ilna de Möller,

Pina Pinetta, Connie Secaira and Patty Valladares.

Seven identities extricate themselves from their individual worries in

order to collectively ponder about the present possibilities and their

future projection. In their daily lives, along with other authentic feminine

tasks, they exercise management, teaching, group curatorship and

artistic production.

Together, they link, harmonize and adjust their contrasts; they take

on challenges, grow apart only to coincide again in order to assume

the responsibility of new beginnings. They have acquired that sense

of security in themselves that is only achieved through experience,

tireless work and tolerance. They present themselves as proud of

their differences. They are the present and the future. They are made

in Guatemala.

En la cultura latinoamericana, lo colectivo -entendido como agrupado

o reunido- está relacionado con la estructura del taller de producción

de arte y artesanía y enraizado con las prácticas de enseñanza de

la academia de arte. El concepto también se aplica al trabajo de la

publicidad y el entretenimiento, y a la producción de cine, video y

nuevas tecnologías de la información y de la comunicación.

Los colectivos han surgido en el tiempo cuando son necesarios. Los

artistas se asocian como parte de su trabajo, y los grupos se forman

en respuesta a condiciones específicas, cuando hay algo particular

que hacer. Los agrupados han usado el colectivo para lograr alguna

influencia en el mundo del arte dominado por curadores, directores

de instituciones y galeristas. Los artistas se organizan para mejorar

situaciones difíciles, entre otras cosas, para hacer llegar su arte al público.

A través del trabajo grupal, los colectivos garantizan y proyectan un rol

público y social del arte. De esta manera buscan modos de asociación

artística en los talleres, la educación, los museos y otros. La industria

no se preocupa por esos aspectos y ese rol no se encuentra en la

producción de objetos para decoración.

Durante la época moderna, en Guatemala comenzaron a formarse

los primeros grupos de artistas y escritores. El trabajo en grupo,

caracterizado por la investigación constante y la autocrítica, tuvo su

principal exponente en el Grupo Vértebra En el siglo XXI se consolidaron

cuatro agrupaciones destacadas: La Torana, Comunicarte, Hecho en

Guatemala y La Escuela del Cerrito del Carmen.

hECho EN GuATEmALA

El Colectivo Hecho en Guatemala se caracteriza por la búsqueda del

principio de alternar o cambiar la propia perspectiva por la del otro,

teniendo en cuenta el punto de vista, la concepción del mundo, los

intereses y la ideología del otro y no dando por supuesto que solo

existe una manera posible.

Como grupo, han encontrado en la práctica artística-estética el

dispositivo indicado para repensarse y evaluar sus posibilidades en

el plano del arte. Las integrantes crearon un espacio que propicia el

marco para la investigación frente a las características y cambios del

presente, a pesar de encontrarse en un medio cultural que muchas

veces pone en duda que las mujeres puedan desarrollar varias tareas

al mismo tiempo.

Ellas se ríen del calificativo “doñitas que pintan” que les colocaron

al principio de sus carreras, porque en la actualidad se identifican

con mucha propiedad con las últimas tendencias artísticas, dentro

de la academia. En sus reuniones habituales de trabajo se producen

discusiones, críticas, desacuerdos y acuerdos, alternados con momentos

alegres y profundos dolores presentes en la vida personal y cotidiana.

Unas veces más unidas que otras, su trabajo sigue manifestando

temas entrelazados por medio de un tenue y delicado hilo conductor. El

grupo, que se ha reducido en número, sigue recreando y reinventando

la tradicional pintura de Guatemala. Trabajan intensamente y producen

obras que sorprenden constantemente. Ellas son Tache Ayala, Mayra

Klée, Carol Yurrita de Masselli, Ilna de Möller, Pina Pinetta, Connie

Secaira y Patty Valladares.

Son siete identidades que salen de sus preocupaciones individuales para

reflexionar en grupo sobre las posibilidades del presente y su proyección

futura. En su vida diaria, a la par de otras labores auténticamente

femeninas, ejercitan la gestión, la docencia, la curaduría grupal y la

producción artística.

Juntas vinculan, armonizan y ajustan sus contrastes. Aceptan los

desafíos, se distancian y vuelven a coincidir, para contraer una vez

más la responsabilidad de comenzar algo nuevo. Han adquirido esa

seguridad en ellas mismas que solo se consigue con la experiencia,

el trabajo incansable y la tolerancia. Se presentan ante los demás

orgullosas de sus diferencias. Son presente y futuro. Están hechas

en Guatemala.

El trabajo de pATTy vALLADARES permite que apreciemos sus talentos

y su profunda vocación al arte. A través de los años ha demostrado

su creatividad y disciplina. Además de pintar, ha incursionado en el

campo de la escultura por medio de la cerámica, la resina plástica y

otros materiales y actualmente se encuentra investigando y practicando

con nuevas formas de comunicación derivadas de la tecnología

contemporánea. Alterna la producción artística con la gestión cultural,

la curaduría grupal y la docencia.

pATTy vALLADARES’s work allows us to appreciate her talents and deep

vocation for the arts. Throughout the years, she has demonstrated

her creativity and discipline. Besides painting, she has ventured

in the field of sculpture through ceramic, plastic resin, and other

materials. Currently, she is involved in research and in the practice of

new forms of communication, derived from contemporary technology.

She alternates her artistic production with cultural management, group

curatorship and teaching.

TAChE AyALA ha dedicado su vida al aprendizaje y a la construcción

de discursos plásticos con sentido. Sus telas y papeles guardan ese

discernimiento, expresado a través de diferentes técnicas y grafías. A

fuerza de construir su alfabeto letra por letra y su diccionario palabra

por palabra, ha coleccionado un mundo de imágenes propias hasta

formar un extenso diccionario lleno de aportes personales, préstamos

e influencias.

TAChE AyALA has dedicated her life to learning and building a visual art

discourse with sense. Her work manifests this discernment expressed

through different techniques. By dint of composing her own alphabet

letter by letter and her dictionary word by word, she has collected

her own world of images, forming a comprehensive dictionary full of

personal input, loans and influences.

mAyRA KLéE trabaja el detalle, buscando siempre los aspectos

simbólicos de los temas que selecciona, componiéndoles escenas

fundidas generalmente con el cielo, rebajando los tonos del área o

parte de ella, logrando cierta apariencia indefinida y lejana. De esta

manera, la figura central de la composición se destaca plenamente,

enviando un mensaje claro al espectador.

mAyRA KLéE is careful about the details in her work and is always

searching for the symbolic aspects of the topics she chooses. She

generally composes her scenes merging the sky, and partially or

completely toning down the hues chosen, in order to achieve an

indefinite and distant appearance. Thus, the central figure in the

composition is completely highlighted, sending a clear message to

the spectator.

Para iLNA DE mÖLLER, el hecho de pintar representa una caminata,

un acontecimiento emocionante dentro del ámbito de la experiencia

personal, de las sensaciones y de las impresiones habituales. Sus

creaciones son decididamente figurativas, vinculadas con distintos

eventos acontecimientos de su vida y su realidad exterior e interior.

within her personal experience, her sensations and her everyday

impressions. Her creations are decidedly figurative, linked to different

occasions of her life, as well as her interior and exterior realities.

Acaso una de las características más notorias de CoNSuELo SECAiRA es su

intención de convertir al espectador en parte de la obra, involucrándolo

sentimentalmente. Para ello utiliza símbolos universales que conmueven

y provocan la solidaridad con la pintora. Las motivaciones visuales

involucran al sujeto con las emociones íntimas y las realidades

expresadas en los lienzos.

CoNSuELo SECAiRA’s intention to emotionally implicate the spectator,

making him part of her paintings is perhaps, one of the most visible

features of her work. She uses universal symbols that move the

viewer, provoking a sense of solidarity towards her. These visual

motivations involve the subject with intimate emotions and the realities

expressed on her canvas.

piNA piNETTA tiene la marca de los artistas temperamentales, aquellos

que parten desde el análisis cerebral hacia la expresión medular.

En su obra se percibe la coherencia de una continuidad temática

plasmada en imágenes figurativas. Esta temática gira muchas veces

en torno a la niñez, posiblemente en busca de su propia historia.

Sus composiciones revelan la exploración del orden y la disciplina,

poniendo de manifiesto sus elevadas cualidades plásticas y creativas.

Pina has the trademark of the temperamental artist, who begins with a

cerebral analysis and follows towards medullar expression. From her

work, the spectator perceives the coherence of a thematic continuity,

captured in figurative images. Often, these themes revolve around

her childhood, possibly in search of her own story. Her compositions

reveal exploration for order and discipline, manifesting her elevated

visual and creative qualities.

los espectadores por un mundo recreado en torno a sencillos utensilios

que son transformados en piezas únicas, semejantes a las joyas que

irradian luz, invadiendo el espacio circundante.

To venture into her pictorial and sculptural world is to walk hand in

hand with CARoL yuRRiTA DE mASELLi through the spell and emotion of

everyday life that her paintings and sculptures irradiate. Spectators

of her art are transported to a world recreated around simple utensils

transformed into unique pieces, similar to jewels irradiating light and

invading the surrounding space.
