ARTH 287: Avant Garde Art/ Modernism 1880-1950 Dates: Dr. Alla Myzelev This course is about the most innovative and unusually-looking art that you have seen. We will study of artistic responses to modernism's utopian visions and the devastation of two world wars. Major art movements include: Primitivism, Expressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Dada, Surrealism, the Bauhaus and Abstract Expressionism. We will talk about art and life of such important artists as: Matisse, Picasso, Duchamp, Dali, Magritte, Kandinsky, Mondrian, and Pollock Dr. Alla Myzelev teaches courses on historical and contemporary art in Art History department. Myzelev is an author of Architecture, Design and Craft in Toronto 1900-1940 and a co-editor of Material Cultures, 1740–1920: The Meanings and Pleasures of Collecting and Furniture, Interior Design, and Contours of Modern Identity.
