Bass Coast Shire Council acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as the first Australians and recognises that they have a unique relationship with the land and water.
Council also recognises that we are situated on the traditional lands of the Boon Wurrung/Bunurong, of the Kulin Nation who have lived here for thousands of years. We offer our respect to their elders past and present and, through them, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Bass Coast is home to a thriving arts community. The beauty of its natural environment, and the close proximity to Melbourne attracts the creative spirit.
It is also one of Victoria’s most popular tourist destinations due to the beautiful coastline, scenic hinterland and laid back lifestyle.

Bass Coast Your Art Collection (YAC) Prize 2015
Kerry Spokes won first prize at the Bass Coast YaC Exhibition with her graphite drawing Mist. this artwork is now part of Council’s art collection.
“I have always seen my artistic practice as in a ‘state of motion’ where I am always looking for new mediums to express myself creatively. the use of digital collage and iphoneography has been such an exploration in the last few years for me.
“My true passion however, will always be drawing and printmaking and is what I return to for that true immersion into the creative process”. Kerry spokes.
