It’s our pleasure to share with you exceptional events that place live performance at the center of the educational experience. Whether it is to enjoy the familiar wonder of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, take a dance workshop in our legendary PAWS program, or collaborate with one of our teaching artists in the nationally recognized Neighborhood Bridges program - student interaction with a live performer will thrill, inspire and resonate long after the event is over.

We Speak Your Language: We understand the needs and demands of the modern school curriculum. That’s why you will find every performance comes with specific curriculum focus and targeted learning standards while also reflecting the Common Core Standards for ELA. Our in-depth Study Guides will assist you in linking our performances to the classroom.

Enhance the Experience: Throughout the brochure you will find opportunities to enhance the experience beyond the performance alone. An extended Q&A session is offered, and across the season the renowned teaching artist, Patrick Wadden, will collaborate with teachers to create imaginative performance-related projects in the classroom.

Creative Opportunities: Finally, we renew our commitment to further integrate the arts into the classroom, building lasting results through two innovative in-school residency programs that bring established artists to work alongside teachers: the Neighborhood Bridges program and The Declassified project.

Madeline and the Bad Hat, an original musical based upon the much-loved book, captures the essence of the Madeline series. It traces the adventure of the young Parisian girl who – despite starting off on the wrong foot with Pepito, a rude and mischievous new neighbor – eventually recognizes the importance of keeping an open mind. Can she also teach Pepito a lesson about the value of friendship and family, and is Pepito not such a bad hat after all?

By giving a contemporary, theatrical edge to the ancient Japanese art of taiko drumming, Yamato’s ten-person company has earned a worldwide reputation. With an exciting physical style, the Yamato drummers bring drama to their musical inheritance, playing a variety of different Japanese instruments in addition to their signature drums. A spectacular and invigorating introduction to Japanese culture and the universal power of rhythm is performed by one of Japan’s foremost drum ensembles.

CORBiAN Visual Arts and Dance in collaboration with Light Wire Theater

A menagerie of fantastic creatures created by cutting edge electroluminescent technology blends with puppetry and contemporary dance in DiNO-Light, the magical journey of a most unusual dinosaur. Assembled and nurtured by a lonely scientist, DiNO is sent into the world to experience life for himself and finds adventure and the true meaning of love. After the performance, the magical science of the production will be revealed.

It’s not easy being a bug, especially on the first day of school. But luckily for Worrying Worm, Fearless Fly, and Sassy Spider, every creature finds its special attribute in Diary of a Worm, a Spider, and a Fly. Spider waits anxiously to shed his skin; Worm feels self-conscious and embarrassed for having no legs; and Fly’s 327 brothers and sisters drive her so crazy that she can hardly focus on schoolwork. Based on the bestselling Diary books, this hysterical coming-of-age musical will have students cheering on the insects as they face problems familiar to us all.

In 1938, as the atrocities against Jews accelerate and few countries will take in refugees, the Lehman family, along with 10,000 other parents, is forced to register their 12-year old daughter Anne for Kindertransport – a rescue mission that provided some Jewish children the opportunity to flee from Nazi-occupied countries to England. With only one small suitcase, young Anne boards a train alone and says goodbye to her parents forever. Based on real-life events this dramatic story vividly recreates the events in Germany and other occupied nations prior to and during World War II.

That little caterpillar is returning, along with an assortment of favorite puppet characters! This triple bill includes the wonderful story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly, the fanciful account of Little Cloud’ s travels through the sky, and the Mixed–Up Chameleon’s discovery of his own unique nature. These whimsical tales have enchanted several generations, and Mermaid’s acclaimed stage adaptation teaches as well as entertains.

The DeclassifiedMeet chamber music’s freshest new faces and collaborate with them.

The Declassified is a newly-minted chamber music society made up of some of the world’s best and brightest young classical musicians. Founded in 2011 by alumni of The Academy - a program of Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School and the Weill Music Institute in partnership with the New York City Department of Education - The Declassified combine world-class artistry, revelatory audience engagement, and innovative programming. Committed to engaging audiences through interactive events, The Declassified will be working with Arts-in-Education in the spring of 2014 to create unique residency programs for schools and community partners in our area. Neighborhood BridgesIn response to growing demand, the fall of 2013 will see an expansion of our nationally recognized Neighborhood Bridges program, designed to bring critical literacy into your classroom. Recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a model of arts integration, Neighborhood Bridges places teaching artists in classrooms with teachers for a 10-week residency collaboration that integrates theatre and storytelling arts into the ELA classroom. Originally developed by The Children’s Theater Company in Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota, the Neighborhood Bridges program develops critical literacy by enhancing students writing and increasing listening, speaking, evaluating and social skills. Seating PolicyThese performances are for school audiences only. Please advise chaperones that no children under the age of 4 will be admitted.

A ticket is required for every individual including children, teachers, and chaperones.

Please be aware that you will be seated at the discretion of House Management. Age, grade level and the desire to seat each school as a group is taken into consideration when schools are seated. Every seat is a good seat, but please note that there is a possibility that you will be seated in the balcony.
