Remember who you are, and remember who you are trying to impress. Do not try to be someone else, because your fraudulence will shine through. Be the person who they first met. Hold his or her attention with funny anecdotes and stories, but no corny jokes. Corny jokes may lead to an awkward moment. Laughing often breaks the ice, and everyone loves someone with a sense of humor. Most people love funny stories, but nothing too dirty, especially on a first date.

How to impress your date

The quick-paced melody driven by guitar, accordion, raspa (local percussion instrument) and drum beat signals the arrival of the dande group of traveling musicians each New Year in Aruba. The word dande means to carouse, revel or have a good time. This celebration began after King Willem III of the Netherlands declared slaves to be free.

The traditional song is performed by a group of well-wishers who form a band and go door-to-door to sing their song of peace, happiness, goodwill, and prosperity for the New Year. The chorus repeats the ai nobe (aña nobo or New Year) refrain in this lively melody. It is an African rhythm, the same as the tumba or the tambu of Curaçao

What is Dande?

• Physical expression will be limited and stiff, with few arm and hand movements. Hand, arm and leg movement are toward their own body the liar takes up less space. • A person who is lying to you will avoid making eye contact • Hands touching their face, throat & mouth. Touching or scratching the nose or behind their ear. Not likely to touch his chest/heart with an open hand. • Expressions are limited to mouth movements when someone is faking emotions (like happy, surprised, sad, awe, )instead of the whole face. For example; when someone smiles naturally their whole face is involved: jaw/cheek movement, eyes and forehead push down, etc • Gestures/expressions don’t match the verbal statement, such as frowning when saying “I love you.” • A guilty person gets defensive. An innocent person will often go on the offensive. • A liar is uncomfortable facing his questioner/accuser and may turn his head or body away.

How to tell if someone is lying!

Do not complain about everything. Family, friends, work, boss, car, weather, taxes, and gasoline prices should stay out of the conversation. Instead, try to smile and let your date know that you are a fun person - not someone boring who he/she has to talk to. Be courteous. Hold the door and help her with her coat; pull out chairs, do not interrupt her, do not talk on the cellphone on a date,

When to call after a first date!

#1 Call her on the same night

If you’ve had one of the best times of your life and you know your date’s had a special time too, there’s nothing wrong in calling her up the very night.

But how sure are you that she’s already falling for you? Did she say something like “I can’t wait to meet you again” or an “I think I miss you already”?

If you’re not very sure about whether she’s had a great time with you, but you really want to tell her you had a nice time, don’t call just yet.

What starts off as a text may then lead to one of you calling the other person up the same night and having a long romantic late night conversation, and even a date in the next couple of days. Girls love a guy who gets back in touch that very night. It removes their uncertainty and makes them feel more mushy and happy. But then again, it also makes you appear too easy to get.

Words of Wisdom!

Text her a line thanking her for a great date.

By doing that, you’re opening the door for a conversation. If she wants to talk to you, you can pick up the hint from her quick responses.

By texting her after getting back to your place or later that night, it lets her know that she’s made an impression on you. You may also make it obvious that you’re smitten by her, and yet, you’re giving her enough space by not calling her up and texting her instead.
