the Anointing of the Sick or Communion

An elderly woman had just returned to her home from an evening at her local church service when she was startled by an intruder. As she caught the man in the act of robbing her home of her valuables, she yelled, "STOP! ACTS 2:38!" (Repent and be baptized, in the name of the lord, so that your sins may be forgiven.) The burglar stopped in his tracks. The woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done. As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar, "Why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell scripture at you." "SCRIPTURE?!" replied the burglar, "She said she had an AXE and TWO 38's!

PRAYER FOR THE NEW YEAR God of all time, help us enter the New Year quietly, thoughtful of who we are to ourselves and to others, mindful that our steps make an impact and our words carry power. May we walk gently. May we speak only after we have listened well. Creator of all life, help us enter the New Year rever-ently, aware that you have endowed every creature and plant, every per-son and habitat with beauty and purpose. May we regard the world with ten-derness. May we honour rather than destroy. Lover of all souls, help us enter the New Year joyfully, willing to laugh and dance and dream, remembering our many gifts with thanks and looking forward to blessings yet to come. May we welcome your lavish love. May we cast off the small, vindictive god our fears have made. May the grace and peace of Christ bless you now and in the days ahead. Amen

PARISH OFFICE

For three weeks (7 January - 25 January) the Parish Office will be open on Thursday and

Friday only. Thank you.

Catechists Needed

The Catholic children attending Public

Schools require Catechist teachers. With the

beginning of another year, would you be able

to help our parish catechist team. Please

contact Fr Paddy or the office.

Last year, I replaced all the windows in my house with those expensive double pane energy efficient kind. But this week, I got a call from the contractor complaining that his work had been completed a whole year and I had yet to pay for them. Well….Just because I'm blonde doesn't mean that I am automatically stupid. So, I proceeded to tell him just what his fast-talking sales guy had told me last year. He said that in one year, the windows would pay for themselves. There was silence on the other end of the line, so I just hung up, and he hasn't called back. Guess he was embarrassed!

NEW TO THE PARISH

If you have moved to our parish recently, welcome,

and please introduce yourself to Fr Paddy. If you

would like to know about groups and events that go

on at Our Lady of Fatima, please ring the Parish

Office and we can assist you.

Primary.

SAT 9 FEB: 9am Baptism Preparation in the

church.

THU 14 FEB: 5.30pm Deanery Mass at St

Brendan’s, Ganmain.

Two nuns were driving through the countryside when they ran out of fuel. They walked to a nearby farmhouse for help and the kindly farmer said that they could siphon some fuel from his tractor. However, they couldn’t find anything to carry the fuel in until the farmer produced a battered old chamber pot. The nuns filled the pot with fuel, walked back to the car and began pouring it in. A passing motorist, hardly believing what he saw, stopped and said, “I don’t agree with your religion, but I do admire your faith!”.

CATHOLIC MISSIONS AND THIRSTY CROW Would you like to help Catholic Mission every time you have a meal or a drink (or both) at the Thirsty Crow? Now you can. Every time you visit from now on, make sure you let them know you are a Catholic Mission supporter and ‘Thirsty Crow’ will allocate part of what you spend to a Catholic Mission kitty which will then be available for fundraising purposes. To launch this relationship, between now and 15 February 5% of every dollar you spend will be put into the Catholic Mission account. What an enjoyable way to help Catholic Mission to “Reach Out – Give Life”! And all one has to do is mention you are a supporter of Catholic Mission!
