Obàtálá has the highest hierarchal position in the Yoruba Òrìsà pantheon,

being the oldest and the leader of all Òrìsà.

In Yorubaland he is known as Obàtálá “Oba ti àlà” meaning the king of

the whiteness, as well known as Òrìsà nlá or “Oba ti o nlá, meaning the

king is the highest.

Obàtálá is the second in command after Olódùmarè, Òrìsà àkóbí, he is the

first Òrìsà to be created and the second creator gifted with authority by

Olódùmarè “Obàtálá Igbákejì Eléèdá Olódùmarè”.

Obàtálá is the one molding the eyes , mouth, ears, nose and the body of

the human being, known as “Ate re re kaye”, which means the king who

everybody knows. He always uses quality clay soil to mold the people;

therefore he is also called as “Alámò rere “.

Olódùmarè named Obàtálá with his own name Alábà–Láse (the

Olódùmarè empowered word) through empowered authority delegated to

Obàtálá on his journey into the earth.

Obàtálá’s shrine is used to be designed with white chalk “efun”, Yémowó

is his wife and his favorite food is pounded yam and egusi cooked with

snail.

A small girl or elderly women are responsible for fetching the water into

the shrine, on the way to the river they must not talk to anybody and ring

the bell for everyone to be aware that they are messengers of Obàtálá.

Obàtálá tem a mais alta posição hierárquica no panteão do Òrìsà na terra

Ioruba, sendo o mais velho e o líder de todos os Òrìsà.

Na terra Yoruba ele é conhecido como Obàtálá “Oba ti àlà”, significando o

rei do branco, tambem conhecido como Òrìsà Nlá ou “Oba ti o nlá “, o

mais alto rei.

Obàtálá é o segundo em comando após Olódùmarè. Òrìsà àkóbí, ele foi o

primeiro Òrìsà a ser criado e o segundo criador dotado de autoridade por

Olodumare: "Obàtálá Igbákejì Eléèdá Olódùmarè". Obàtálá é o único

responsavel pela moldagem dos olhos, boca, ouvidos, nariz e o corpo do

ser humano. Conhecido como "Ate re re Kaye", o que significa o rei que

todos conhecem. Ele sempre usa solo de argila de qualidade para moldar

o ser humano; portanto, ele é também chamado de "Álamo rere".

Olódùmarè nomeou Obàtálá com seu próprio nome Alaba -Láse (a palavra

com poderes de Olódùmarè ) através da autoridade delegada a Obàtálá na

sua jornada para a terra.

O santuário de Obàtálá é desenhado com giz branco "efun". Yémowó é

sua esposa e a sua comida favorita é inhame moído e egusi cozido com

caracol.

Uma menina pequena ou mulheres idosas são responsáveis por buscar a

água para o santuário. No caminho para o rio, elas não devem falar com

ninguém e vão tocando o sino para que todos saibam que são

mensageiras de Obàtálá.
