SPRECON-E is the result of our long-term experience in the areas of

power system engineering as well as control and automation.

SPRECON-E can be organised decentralised or centralised. All system

data is processed either close to the point of data generation or at a

central location in the power system, which is subject to the

implementation concept.Application-specific data transmission paths allow “open” system

communication at the highest possible security level. The consequent

modular hardware and software architecture acts as the basis for

customer-specific applications as well as step-by-step implementations of

large-scale systems.

SPRECON-E is a process-independent automation platform and therefore

applicable to various power systems such as switchgears, substations and

power plants.

SPRECON-E allows integration of autonomous systems and devices of

other manufacturers (i. e. protection and control devices) into new as well

as existing plants.

SPRECON-E provides various user interfaces for easy and secure system

operation ranging from traditional pushbuttons to state-of-the-art

displaying systems with modern graphical user interfaces.

For decades, Sprecher Automation’s engineers have been gaining wide

experience in developing and modernising power utilities.

This specific process know-how acted as the basis for the development of

SPRECON-E.

SPRECON-E consists of the following packages:

A full-graphical HMI guarantees comfortable, clear and secure

operating of the power system: process visualisation, archiving

functions for events, alarms, measured-values and diagnostics of

power system equipment as well as reporting and hardcopy

functions.

As an extended version, the HMI workstation can be also applied

as a control center for supply networks.

The station level, which is higher-levelled than the decentral control units,

can be also designed as a redundant system.

As applied to the complete SPRECON-E platform, the SPRECON-E station

computer is also based on a modular hardware design. It is specificly

adapted to the respective application in terms of hardware and software

modules for power system-related functions (switchgear interlocking,

automatic features, logics, etc.), process data management, process data

archiving, logging as well as local and remote communication.

For local as well as remote operation via modem/network or Web the

SPRECON-E service computer features:

System maintenance and configuration

Evaluation software for protection data (mass storage)

System access

Data processing is achieved with device-oriented, bay-oriented or centrally

oriented hardware.

A high-performance CPU with RISC architecture acts as the core of the

process-oriented hardware, which provides interfaces to the process and

to the communication network at the highest possible security level.

“Open interfaces” allow connections to sub-systems (protection devices,

control devices, etc.) of SPRECON-E or of other manufacturers via

proprietary protocols.

For local operation, SPRECON-E provides a full-graphical HMI control

panel with a colour display. The control panel can be either directly

attached to the device or mounted within a few meters’ distance.

In addition to an HMI workstation, SPRECON-E power systems can be also

operated via a notebook, a tablet PC or a PDA (mobile SPRECON-V460).

The concept of the SPRECON-E automation, protection and remote control

system is based on technical and economical considerations in order to

provide optimal solutions by simultaneously sustaining the overall system

concept. All devices are based on a uniform and modular system

architecture in terms of hardware, data structures, communication, logical

functions as well as engineering and service tools. They are distinguished by

their rack sizes as well as their application-related functions.

Due to their high scalability, all automation, protection and remote control

devices can be applied to a wide range of different types of plants and

utilities. The uniform design allows various applications of the devices such

as station computers, bay computers, remote control units or other

automation devices.

Each SPRECON-E-C device consists of a basic frame (rack, power supply,

CPU, I/O modules) and, if required, a detachable HMI control panel.By combination of different pluggable modules, the devices can be

individually assembled in order to meet particular requirements.

Standard protocols like IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101, -103 and -104

allow simple communication and data transmission to the higher-levelled

control system. The platform also integrates proprietary communication

protocols.

SPRECON-E offers an detachable HMI control panel with a full-graphical

display (up to 4096 colours). Voltage levels, alarms of different categories

and measured-value bars as well as other power system-specific data can

be therefore configured and displayed in different colours. The control panel allows automatic upload of images and configuration

data when connected to a SPRECON-E device.

As an alternative or in addition to the HMI control panel, Sprecher

Automation also offers an alarm panel with up to 100 configurable LEDs.

PROCESS VISUALISATION

Visualisation of ahydroelectric

power plant (turbine)

Visualisation of a substation

SPRECON-V460 also provides the necessary features for follow-up projects. All functions can be copied and easily re-

applied to other projects.

In the areas of HMI and process visualisation, Sprecher Automation has put the main emphasis on the design of the

graphical user interface - especially on user guidance, general usability as well as on the design of the various functions.

The system additionally provides an

interface to the Internet with the SPRECON-

V460 Web server.

Project engineering with SPRECON-V460

does not require programming skills. All

projects can be created via mouse clicks.

Graphics, navigation and logics are

configured via “properties” and pre-

defined functions.

The visualisation system allows simple and

efficient centralised project engineering in

an object-oriented way.

Visualisation of atraction power supplysystem

SPRECON-V460 meets all demands of modern control center

systems concerning monitoring and evaluation of processes in

the area of power generation and distribution.

The system provides a multitude of functions and allows various

applications due to consistent integration of international

standards and technologies.

By the full continuity of SPRECON-V460 at all process levels,

Sprecher Automation introduces a new standard to the SCADA

world.

The SPRECON-V460 Editor allows compatible creation and

maintenance of all visualisation projects regardless of process

levels. As a result, users benefit from the true continuity of the

system.

SPRECON-V460 facilitates process visualisations of all possible

Configuration example of a station control systemfor a substation with IEC 61850 (or IEC 60870-5-104)

As a station control system, SPRECON-E can be applied to switchgears and substations of all types and voltage levels.

The flexible system concept and the wide-ranging scalability for the components allow practice-oriented, reliable and

cost-efficient configurations. As a result, adaptions to specific requirements can be easily accomplished.

Beside implementation into new plants, SPRECON-E is also perfectly qualified for retrofit due to its flexibility and

robustness. SPRECON-E not only offers state-of-the-art communication structures such as IEC 61850 or IEC 60870-5-

104 for fibre-optic ring topologies, but also allows traditional star topologies

for system-internal communication.

Due to the modular architecture and the facility of flexible conifiguration,

for remote control. The system allows configuration of new and modern telecontrol networks realised upon appropriate

topologies. SPRECON-E components can be also integrated into existing networks without affecting the customer’s

philosophy in terms of system management and maintenance.

The compact RTUs of the SPRECON-E-T3 series cover applications with low and medium I/O numbers whereas the

SPRECON-E-C devices are used for medium and high I/O numbers.

For telecontrol, SPRECON-V460 can be used as a local HMI workstation

and/or as a supervisory control center system for process visualisation (SCADA).

a sub-system into new power plants or for retrofit of existing power plants.

A typical example for retrofit is the implementation of a control center system by simultaneously sustaining operation of

the process-related automation hardware.
