n many Amazonia communities, float airplanes are an important alternative for access. Located distant from the

urban areas, the people can take weeks on a boat to the nearest city. The huge area of forests and rives of the

Amazon takes in thousands of Indians and riverbank people, that wait to be assisted socially and transformed

spiritually. Kids suffer with the effects of worms, caused by the lack of treated water, sanitation and health centers.

These communities are marked by high rates of infant mortality, illiteracy

and difficulties caused by tropical diseases. Also a great

number of cases of sexual assault against children.

The joint work of Asas de Socorro and community leaders from each region enable a greater range of help. Therefore, our work provided the construc-tion of toilets and installation of sand bioactive filters for water purification for hundreds of families in several communities. In all over 2000 people benefited.

In the riverside communities, the lack of basic sanitation and untreated water consumption causes various diseases such as: cholera, hepatitis A, leptospirosis.. etc. Untreated water conta-minated by waste , human and animals feces, cause innume-rable problems in adults and children, the microorganisms present in the contaminated water gets in contact with the population through the skin during the shower, while preparing the meals, or even, directly, by water intake from the river.

TREATED WATER: only 58,5 % the amazon's houses are connected to the water supply. The national index is 83,1 %.SEWER - only 9,4% of the houses count with sewage system, while the national index figured 52,5 %. To make the problem even bigger, this index from IBGE (2009) applies for urban areas. The regions where we operate do not have any type of treated water, nor sewage treatment.
