PETE represents a process encompassing Health & Safety, risk assessment and project management. PETE assists in ensuring that all aspects of a project are managed safely.Below are a few of the PETE considerations taken into account on this project.

[This PETE is where those planning a project ask about the impact of People, Environment, Tools and Exposure to the project. Includes Client discussions, site surveying, estimating or consultancy]. -Initial desktop audit of survey documents, followed by site visits during costing stage.-Full risk assessment and method statement prepared so the removal team and the client were aware of potential risks, but also that

they were comfortable with the way the works were going to progress.-14 Day Notification submitted to the Health & Safety Executive to inform them when the works were scheduled to start and what works would be carried out.-Site visit prior to start date, by the Contracts Manager with the site Supervisor to talk through the scope and stages of works. The visit was also used to reassess RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statement as it is classed as a “live” document). This ensured no amendments were necessary to the planning of the project as the site conditions hadn't changed since the original planning phase.-All works completed in accordance with Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and the relevant paperwork issued to the client for their retention.[This PETE is all of the people involved above who must have asbestos awareness training to ensure they are legally compliant for controlling the risks to People, Environment, Tools and Exposure]. -Due to extensive refurbishment works the client knew that the current Asbestos Management Survey was not sufficient for the works planned and that there was a possibility of hidden ACMs. Subsequently the client instructed Amiante STR Ltd to carry out the

R&D Survey which identified some areas of concern, which due to access restriction were not identified during the Asbestos Management Survey carried out by another surveying company.-This is why it is important that contractors make sure the client provides the correct type of asbestos survey prior to carrying out extensive refurbishment or demolition works.[This PETE represents the safe removal of asbestos materials in compliance with current legislation and is also our reminder to assess all of the risks to our own staff of People, Environment, Tools and Exposure and not just the asbestos risk]. -For licensable/notifiable asbestos works such as this job, where there is a higher risk of fibre release, safety measures are put in place to minimise potential fibre release and to ensure the works did not exceed the control limit.-In addition to heavy duty polythene enclosures, our operatives wore disposable overalls and were equipped with full face respirators to ensure filtered airflow whilst working with asbestos.-Air monitoring was carried out by UKAS Accredited laboratory to ensure that there were no airborne fibres present and that the area is safe for re-occupation.
