I must admit Irsquom a Pinterestlover In my free time I lovelooking for fun beauty tipstricks and recipes So here are

a few homemade beauty recipesthat I triedhellipfinally

Coffee Sugar Scrub

A well known (Irsquove wanted tomake this for a couple of yearsnow) skin firming homemaderecipe that has a reputation totone and tighten problem areasof the body

Recipe1 cup coffee (any kind)

1 cup sugarfrac12 cup olive oilfrac12 cup water

Put all ingredients in blenderand blend until a fine consisten-cy Keep in air tight containerand place by your SHOWER

I say put by the shower

because I kept mind next to my tubhellipsince Irsquom a total bath girlI canrsquot help it Since I wassmall my maw maw alwaysmade me luxurious bubblebaths (Ivory liquid) and Irsquovebeen hooked since

So as you can see here (photo)after hovering in my bathtub toapply my coffee scrub all overmy thighs and tush it got a lit-tle messy Well maybe it got alot messy

After using this the pastfew weeks although notconsistently I certainly feel like

my skin is tighter Even when Iapplied the mixture at nightthe next day I felt my skin alittle tighter

PS ndash I also felt a little moreawake just from smelling the

coffee aromaOverall review is this is atemporary fix to smooth andtighten the skin Itrsquos not along term fix but then againnothing is except to exerciseFun recipe though

Vinegar ListerineFoot Soak

This recipe is new to me but I was ready to try it nonetheless

It states that in 15 ndash 30 min-utes all your hard and dry skin will come off by just rubbing atowel over your feet

Recipe

Equal parts

Listerine (Some say donrsquot usethe blue stuff because it willmake your feet blue I hadTotal Listerine which is clear)Vinegar (they say apple cideris better but I used regular

vinegar)

Hot waterSoak feet for 15 to 30 minutesand then remove skin with atowel

I started by mixing only a cupeach but if yoursquod like to soak both feel completely yoursquollneed to use at least two cups of each Also make sure you useHOT water not only does itfeel better to soak your feet inbut I it also helps further soften

your dry skin

I decided to soak my feet forthe full 30 minutes I must saythe smell wasnrsquot ideal but my feet felt invigorated veryquickly (from the ListerineIrsquom assuming)

After 30 minutes Then I pulledmy feet out and a towel did not

work to take off the dead skinI needed something a littlemore heavy duty So with apumice stone and soft brush I

was able to scrub some skin

away however the tougherareas like around my heel area

werenrsquot as easy to remove I would say in the toughercalloused areas it softened theskin about 50 This may bean idea time to use a skinshaver but be careful if youdo that

Overall review of this recipeis skip it and just go get apedicure

Whether you call it bad breath

or halitosis itrsquos an unpleasant

condition thatrsquos cause for

embarrassment Some people

with bad breath arenrsquot even

aware therersquos a problem If

yoursquore concerned about bad

breath see your dentist He or

she can help identify the cause

and if itrsquos due to an oral condi-

tion develop a treatment plan

to help eliminate it

What you eat affects the air you

exhale Certain foods such as

garlic and onions contribute to

objectionable breath odor

Once the food is absorbed into

the bloodstream it is trans-

ferred to the lungs where it is

expelled Brushing flossing and

mouthwash will only mask the

odor temporarily Odors contin-

ue until the body eliminates the

food Dieters may develop

unpleasant breath from infre-

quent eating

If you dont brush and floss

daily particles of food remain in

the mouth collecting bacteria

which can cause bad breath

Food that collects between the

teeth on the tongue and

around the gums can rot leav-

ing an unpleasant odor

Bad breath can also be caused by

dry mouth (xerostomia) which

occurs when the flow of saliva

decreases Saliva is necessary to

cleanse the mouth and remove

particles that may cause odor

Dry mouth may be caused by

various medications salivary

gland problems or continuously

breathing through the mouth

If you suffer from dry mouth

your dentist may prescribe anar-

tificial saliva or suggest using

sugarless candy and increasing

your fluid intake

Tobacco products cause bad

breath If you use tobacco ask

your dentist for tips on kicking

the habit

Bad breath may be the sign of a

medical disorder such as a local

infection in the respiratory

tract chronic sinusitis postnasal

drip chronic bronchitis dia-

betes gastrointestinal distur-

bance liver or kidney ailment

If your dentist determines that

your mouth is healthy you may

be referred to your family doc-

tor or a specialist to determine

the cause of bad breath

Maintaining good oral health is

essential to reducing bad breath

Schedule regular dental visits

for a professional cleaning and

checkup If you think you have

constant bad breath keep a log

of the foods you eat and make a

list of medications you take

Some medications may play a

role in creating mouth odors

Let your dentist know if youve

had any surgery or illness since

your last appointment

Brush twice a day with fluoride

toothpaste to remove food

Tom Bensonand the Saga of the Intentionally Defective GrantorTrust

In February I wrote an articleabout trusts The article discussedthe basics of trust law andexplained that the trustee of atrust has a duty to act in the bestinterest of the trustrsquos beneficiaries At that time Robert Rosenthalthe trustee of a trust created by Tom Benson was refusing toremove the Saints and Pelicanssports franchises from the trust inexchange for an unsecuredpromissory note that Mr Benson was attempting to substitute

instead Mr Bensonrsquos daughterand his two grandchildren are thebeneficiaries of the trust He wants to remove the teams fromthe trust so he can give them tohis third wife

In recent weeks there have been

further developments regardingthis attempted asset swap that areof interest This article will discussthe strategy Benson is trying to useto remove the sports franchisesfrom the trust and the recentdevelopments regarding hisattempts to do so

The type of trust that owns theSaints and Pelicans is an irrevocabletrust and trusts like this are oftenused for estate tax planningpurposes If someone dies withassets exceeding approximately $5million estate taxes are owedbefore distributions are made to

the heirs To minimize these taxesirrevocable trusts are created andassets are transferred into themSince the trust is irrevocable thecreator of the trust (called theldquoGrantorrdquo) has no right to use theassets therefore the assets arenot considered a part of hisestate at death

In addition to removing assetsfrom the Grantorrsquos estate for estatetax purposes these trusts oftenallow the Grantor to continue to

pay the income tax on the assetstransferred to the trust Thisstrategy is used to further reducethe Grantorrsquos estate for tax purpos-es This is possible because theestate tax laws and income tax lawsare not aligned Assets placed in atrust that are not counted forestate tax purposes can still beconsidered as owned by theGrantor for income tax purposesThis type of irrevocable trust iscalled an ldquointentionally defective

grantor trustrdquo However it is notdefective at all ndash in reality it is very effective at achieving its purposes

To be an ldquointentionally defectivegrantor trustrdquo the lawyer whodrafts it has to put some speciallanguage in it In Louisiana themost common power we use tocreate an ldquointentionally defectivegrantor trustrdquo is for the Grantor tobe able to substitute assets of anequal value for the assets that arein the trust Apparently this rightto substitute assets of an equal value is what Tom Benson istrying to do

As mentioned the trustee hasthus far refused to allow thesubstitution of assets Instead hehas asked for asset appraisals toshow that the values are equalHis refusal to make the exchangeof assets has spawned anotherlawsuit ndash this time in federal courtThis new lawsuit was filed by MrBensonrsquos attorneys on March 11thand it alleges the trustee neverrequired appraisals for previousmultimillion dollar exchanges and

so he shouldnrsquot this time either

There is another lawsuit pendingbetween Benson and his family in aTexas state court over another trustthat owns some other businessesfounded by Benson Although the judge in that case has no authority regarding the new suit filed infederal court he has stated hedoes not believe the asset swapcan happen

person but he comes out of himself for his music Music is life to CJShirley and I had a relaxing visit with Lynette and CJ on theirhouseboat that CJ built himself in1985 By trade CJ was a surveyorbut the houseboat is a testament tohis carpentry skills Compact andcomfortable the boat has all thecomforts of a land house with theadvantage of cruising the river if one

so desiredThe desire to play music startedearly for CJ but his nudge into

music came from his father MrKenneth (CJrsquos dad) said he always wanted to play guitar so with acouple of box guitars procured fromMexico their musical journey beganCJ was sixteen and still in school soafter his homework was done he

music CJ was a surveyor for Gulf States Utilities until retiring after25 years because of colon cancer While fighting the cancer CJ triedto keep surveying but the disease was too much CJ and Lynettehave been through three bouts of cancer 2001 2007 amp 2011 Hisbattle isnrsquot over as once again thecancer has reared its ugly headLynette has been there every step of the way for CJ Lynette is anaccomplished musician in her ownright not a surprise considering she

Clarence CJ Parent got his ticket to go play with the Angels on March 25 He was a lifelong friend of mine-his fathers landbordered ours back when Prairieville was really a prairie-and atreasured classmate in the final class of the old Dutchtown High School (Class of 66) My fondest memories of Clarence were playing with him and his dad-Kenneth Boy Parent-at the old C Brauds Grocery and Bar where we played Milk Cow Blues That tune has been recorded by everyone from Robert Johnson to Elvis to George Strait but we did it on Clarences Spanish guitar my

14-dollar Stella and Boys harmonica much to the delight ofRD Smith and the regular crowd

Clarence went on to bigger and better things playing with several Swamp Pop bands long after Id left my gig with Tinker and the BellsBut he always remembered my favorite song before I even requested it- Change Gonna Come by Sam Cook and my sister Lizs Almost Like a Song by Ronnie MilsaUGps I know he is sitting on the back of a pick-up truck with his dad right now playing a Jimmy Rodgerss song or something by Hank Williams He was a good friend and a

good picker and you cant ask for much more than that

was a Bercegeay before she marriedCJ She started playing music in themiddle school band on clarinet Shealso played the baritone horn andtympani drums She graduated

from East Ascension in 1968 gotmarried and moved to Morgan CityShe has three children DwainDupuis Kristian Mayon and SarahMayon She and CJ are blessed

with 6 grandkids Dustin KeilaLauren Megan Bylan and Blair After her divorce Lynette movedhome and thatrsquos when she met CJHer brother actually was playing inthe band with CJ at the time She was encouraged to continue hermusic and got the chance to sit in with the band on saxophone (not abig stretch from the clarinet) She

got loads of encouragement fromband members and other saxplayers (Musicians all seem eagerto help other musicians with theirart) CJ was excited when Lynettestarted with the band since he wasalready ldquosweetrdquo on her He told ushe always wanted to kiss a sax

player We were glad he waited fora female sax player Sax playing wasnrsquot her only attraction for CJThose eyes kept drawing him inNot to mention her outgoing per-sonality charm and strong characterThey got married and remodeledthe houseboat Lynette was actually Cruzzinrsquos sax player until CJ gottoo sick to play If you happen topick up a Cruzzinrsquo CD the title cutldquoFull Recoveryrdquo CJ wrote forLynette A beautiful song be sureto get a copy of the CD

Throughout CJrsquos illness music

has been his stability and drivingforce He really loves his music youcan see it in his face when he talks

about it Lynette was his ROCK always there for him

CJ and Lynette would like tothank all the family and friends whogave them support and prayersthrough this ordeal Yourthoughtfulness and prayers are moreappreciated than you will ever know

We had a wonderful time floatingon the river at the Parentrsquos Theirplace is so peaceful it is always apleasure to spend time with themThanks to them for opening theirlives to us



Fall gave us an abundant harvest this year

Itrsquos March and wersquore picking thefew remaining cabbage and Brusselsprouts from the garden And believeit or not in the hoop house wersquore still

being offered a few tomatoes from oursummer vines We like many people today are try-

ing new ways of growing our foods while hoping to conserve water andeliminate chemicals Aquaponicshydroponics raised beds wickingbeds even PVC tubing are all popularnew growing technics and wersquove triedthem all

Imagination has really become a funpart of gardening these days Pretty much anything goes

Through trial and error wersquove hadmany successes and failures in eachgrowing method

Aquaponics is the merging of aquaculture (the raising of fish) and hydro-

ponics (growing in nutrient balanced water with a clay media instead of soil)This method proved a bit challengingat first when trying to establish therequired nitrates and nitrides neededfor plant growth and fruit develop-ment while not harming the live fishbut we finally got it It uses the fish waste to feed the plants The plantsand clay media filter and clean the water and return it to the fish and thecycle simply repeats itself It is theclosest resemblance to a natural ecosystem found in and around naturersquosriverbanks Our plants grew andthrived They produced an abundanceof beautiful vegetables Cucumbers

especially thrived in this environmentand produced more than we and ourneighbors could pickle and eat Leafy plants however when picked quickly wilted and wouldnrsquot keep So unless we grazed in the greenhouse for sup-per this method proved not the rightchoice for us

An attractive and fun addition to ahydroponic or an aquaponic system isPVC piping that many use for grow-ing strawberries or lettuce Used astowers above the system for extragrowing space holes are cut from thepiping and replaced with plants Thesame water from the system keeps theplants watered and fed until they areready for harvest Donrsquot expect much

from a first year strawberry plant whether yoursquove planted it in a watersystem or in the ground We plant

our strawberries in October the yearbefore to allow their roots to becomeestablished while the plant is in itsdormant winter stage and cover them with straw or hay(if planted in theground) Once spring arrives theplants will offer you largerfirmer berries

Wicking beds are one of my

favorites They are very close totraditional growing in that theycontain a layer of soil then hay thenmore soil etchellip and act as the namesdescribes water is wicked from thebottom of the container up to theplant roots With this method wehave grown potatoes peanuts snap

beans head lettuce carrots and muchmore All the plants thrived in thisenvironment and the food kept wellafter picking Wicking beds can besituated on a table top or directly onthe ground making them an extremely versatile gardening method for smallor large spaces However if you havelaying hens like we do yoursquoll needsome fencing to protect your plantsfrom your birds should you placethem on the ground

There are many more growingmethods being used today and allhave their pros and cons but nomatter how you grow your familyrsquosfood by all means do it The reward

upon your familyrsquos table is worth theeffort and Irsquom here to tell you pridetastes delicious

He seemed to slip even deeper

into depression as he ordered red wine and proclaimed ldquoApril is thecruelest monthrdquo

Now Irsquom also a sucker forclassical references so anyone thatquotes TS Eliot deserves my nearly deaf right ear-at least until Ifinish my beer

ldquoTell me about itrdquo I repliedldquoMy putts have hit more lips thanMick Jaggerrsquos dentist lately andmy tee shots have been in the water so much I had to change thegrip on my ball retrieverrdquo

Thoroughly unimpressed withmy links disasters he lifted a glassof Meacutenage a Trois my way and

His next story was one I couldreally sympathize withldquoOut of work I tried to pick up

This month I decided to mixthings up a bit and began a new path with my column I wantto use this space to tell storiesof and in a way give back tothe great musicians living andperforming in and around ourgreat parish With such a richmusic history in Ascension

parish I felt it would beonly fitting to stretch theboundaries on my maiden

journey into these shortbiographies and tell the story of a very dear friend of mineMr Adam Dale

Adam a Minden native was turned onto music by hisparents who purchased him aguitar for Christmas at theage of fourteen Whileattending Minden HighSchool he excelled musicallyespecially in choir class It was

while in high school that Adam had his first chance tolead a band on vocals andguitar when the christian rock

band ldquoShoelessrdquo was formedGiven his great vocal ability

Adam was blessed with ascholarship to attend LouisianaTech in Ruston an opportunity he couldnrsquot turn down Whilein Ruston he would meet and

become friends with severalmusicians that would laterbecome part of the band ldquoThe

American TragedyrdquoldquoTragedyrdquo as it would

become know as began in1999 and got its biggest break

very early on when discoveredand selected to be a part of aUSA network music themed TV

show called Farm Club FarmClub was hosted by BreauxBridge native and former MissUSA Ali Landry The show promoted unsigned bands by mixing them in with a nationalact on a nation wide liveperformance broadcast The

American Tragedy episode wasaired with Crazy Town as thefeatured national act At thetime Crazy Town was promot-

ing their number one smash hitButterfly After the exposure on Farm

Club gigs became easier tocome by American Tragedy began touring from coast tocoast They shared the stage

with bands like Stained SalivaHinder Candlebox andBowling for Soup to name afew After become veterans of the road the band decided tostay 100 independent neversigning with a record labelDale stated ldquoWe could never

find the right deal everything we were offered just didnrsquot feel

right to usrdquo The band wenton to release 3 full lengthalbums a live album and an EPthe most successful of these wasthe 2006 release ldquoWelcome tothe Showrdquo The band was ableto sell nearly 10000 albumsthrough touring alone

In the late 2000rsquos the bandlost their basses and began tolose some momentum It wasaround this time that Adam

Not long ago my step-daughter mentioned that my two grandchildren wanted tospend the night in a tentSpending the night outside in atent is exciting for most chil-dren Im sure most of you havetent stories of your own but fornow I would like to share a

couple of those horror stories of my own with you

We once had a duck lease inthe marsh at Pecan Island where

we were forced to stay in a tentOne particular night the crew decided to bring the boat to theroad We then went to a beerdrinking contest at the only barin Pecan Island We won thecontest during which time thismassive cold front blew through When we returned tothe tent later that night wediscovered that the tent hadbeen blown down Everythingthat we had was wet We didntraise the tent We all crawledunder it and did the best wecould The next morning atdaylight I found myself crawlingout on my hands and kneesupchucking the beer from thenight before

Great plans were in store fortent camping and deer huntingon a trip to Jackson-Bienville

years ago As we approached thecampground late that night we

noticed severe lightning on thehorizon My dad and ourhunting partner had enoughsense to bring a cot to sleep onI slept on the ground only to beawakened about two hours latersoaking wet I then moved tothe truck to miserably spend therest of the night We did kill adeer the next morning andspent the remainder of the day at a laundrymat in town dryingour clothes

Years ago the Bohemia WMA provided a campground My

two hunting partners and I went to the camp site afterspending the day deer hunting

and fishing It was Novemberand the temperature was very

warm One of my huntingbuddies began snoringunbelievably loud that night Ifinally couldnt take it anymoreso I went to the boat to sleepIt wasnt long before my otherbuddy joined me The

mosquitos were horrible outthere and I still couldnt sleepbecause of the snoring comingfrom the tent some tweny-five

yards awayTheres more horror stories

I could tell about tent outingsbut thats enough for now Atsome point in my life I quitstaying in tents and have nointention of doing so in thefuture Although its moreexpensive not nearly as muchfun and not as nature friendlyIll just go get a hotel roomMost of the time well cook ourfish or game on the tailgate of the truck at the room instead of at a campfire

My grandchildren definitely need to spend a night in a tentand Ill probably be the chosenone to do that with them My plans are to pitch it in mybackyard Then when things gosouth sometime that night asIm sure it will well go insideto a nice dry soft bed

When Family Comes to

VisitIt happens several times a year

My out-of-state family comes to visit This past month my sisterJanet(Nana) made a visit with my niece Sally and her growingfamily Millie(3) and Addie(3 months) old

Donrsquot get me wrong I love my family and I love when they visitbut the stuff I have to do to maketheir visit a pleasant one

First off Irsquom a bachelor whichmeans there is house cleaning thatneeds to be done Maybe a coupleof days worth And I am talkingabout real cleaning like vacuuming mopping sheetchanging My favorite task is toclean and clear out the 3rdbedroom Yea Right You know the room that holds anything Ineeded to get out of sight quick junk room However there is aupside to cleaning the room Ialways find things Irsquove beenmissing for months

Then I move to the refrigeratorand another task that is seldomdone Gotta get the tupperwarebowls that are bulging at theseems out the fridge and thehouse After I took the junk out Irealized I didnrsquot have much in thefridge and had to restock With itempty the stains really start toshow I had to use Lysol

Bathroom cleaner and go tocleaning I havenrsquot mentioned thecarport the grass and the visitors bathroom Enough aboutthe cleaning You get the picture

After they arrive we make ourhellos and my home turns into anursery preschool with PrincessSophia and Frozen with Elsa onmy favorite flat screen that isgenerally tuned to sports and western movies

These guys are technology savvyThere is a IPad in both recliners with smartphones everywhereMillie has about 3 different onesOne minute shersquos using hers oneminute her Nanarsquos and then herMoms Hell they hacked my Cable account and recordedDisney shows on my televisionbefore they got here We started our week with a visit

to eat at local restaurants As the week goes on I get a chance totake them fishing Something thatis in my wheel house

I have to tell you fishing with a3 year old has its challenges Last year when she was 2 she had notrouble touching crickets Evencarried the buck around like shehad a cricket purse This year as a3 year old she wasnrsquot gettinganywhere close to those bugs Of

course Nana was trying torcherher encouraging her not to be

scared Also when Nana told herthe small crickets were babycrickets Millie put 2 and 2together and ask ldquoSo you arefishing with the Mommiecricketsrdquo Try to answer thatone Nana

Addie was a great baby She justlayed around played laughednursed and created unique smellsIt reminded me of back when my

son lived with me I made an eggsandwich for Nana and she ate itright off the babyrsquos butt It waslike a baby boody buffet

Now Millie and I made somememories She put her pinkToo-too on my head over my camo hat and put purple grapeflavored silver sparkling lip glosson me I donrsquot think it was my shade and wasnrsquot really in myfashion color wheel Then shepulled out the tangerine colorfingernail polish It took a whilefor that stuff to wear off Igot some funny looks at the

golf courseI did have fun making clues fora treasure hunt for Millie Theclues led her to the freezer where

there a treasure full of toys andgames wrapped in alluminum foilElsa doll from Frozen was oneShe been hugging it ever since

Now their gone Itrsquos quiet Thehouse smells like the dog I now have some 2 skim milk and asmall bottle of something that may be baby milk left behind Irsquom nottouching it I do have most of acrunchy peanut butter jar

Prep Time15 minutes

Cook Time6 minutes

Ingredients

frac12 lb peeled Crawfish Tails (with fat)2 lbs boiled red potatoes1 cup boiled corn (cut off the cob)frac14 cup green onions- thinly sliced1 clove boiled garlic1 link boiled sausage- roughly chopped1 cup mayofrac14 cup Creole mustard1 Tbls Creole seasoning

Batter Ingredients

1 cup vegetable oil2 cups milk amp 2 eggs (whisk together)2 cups flour4 cups Panko bread crumbs

Method

Reheat your potatoes using either the microwave or byre-boiling them for about 5 minutes In a large mixing bowlcombine the heated potatoes corn chopped sausage greenonions garlic peeled cra wfish tails mayo Creole mustardand Creole seasoning and mix well Take your mixture andform into cakes approx 3 oz each

In a medium sauteacute pan heat your oil over med hi heat Nextdredge your cakes in the flour then the milk and egg mixtureand finally in the Panko bread crumbs Gently drop yourcakes 2 to 3 at a time into your heated oil and cookapproximately 3 minutes on each side Remo ve from heatand allow to cool 2 minutes before serving
