Prayer on Racism
Dear God,
In our efforts to dismantle racism, we understand that we struggle not merely against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities – those institutions
and systems that keep racism alive by perpetuating the lie that some members of the family are inferior and others superior.
Create in us a new mind and heart that will enable us to see brothers and sisters in the faces of those divided by racial categories.
Give us the grace and strength to rid ourselves of racial stereotypes that oppress some of us while providing entitlements to others.
Help us to create a church and a nation that embraces the hopes and fears of oppressed people of color where we live, as well as those around the world.
Heal your family God, and make us one with you, in union with our brother Jesus, and empowered by your Holy Spirit.
Oración sobre el Racismo
Querido Dios,

Attending Mass in Ascension Church: We have been allowed by Archbishop Sample to partially open up Mass (to no more than 25 persons including ministers and the priest). If you would like to attend Mass, you must pre-register by calling the Parish Office at 503-256-3897. There are NO exceptions. NO walk-ins. Space is very limited. If you are not comfortable attending in person, or are a person at risk of health, please do not feel obligated to attend Mass. Everyone has been given dispensation from attending Mass by our Archbishop.
In Order to Attend Mass at Ascension: You must register in advance. Call the office! You must be healthy: no sniffles even if from
allergies, no coughing or sneezing, no fever. Please wear a mask during the entire Mass and
only remove it after you leave your pew to approach the altar for communion.
Planning Ahead We plan to add more Masses to allow more parishioners to attend. Please see our website or facebook for up-to-date additions and information. There are over 100 children and youth waiting to celebrate their first communion, and there are several adults waiting to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church; we are in the process of planning which Masses they will be attending. We ask parishioners to contact the office to pre-register for Mass no more than once every 2 to 4 weeks, so that everyone who would like to attend has the opportunity.
Additional Precautions We are Taking We take your health and safety very seriously.
Please do not attend Mass if you are especially vulnerable, or if you are sick.In order to maintain safe social distancing, the pews have been "ribboned off” to keep a 6 ft. minimum distance between those attending.
The singers and musicians have been moved 20 feet from the congregation.
Communicants must space themselves 6 feet apart when in line to receive communion.
You may receive communion in the hand. (Place your two hands together with one hand underneath making a throne for the host.) Watch this video for examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdGkTdv4Dt4 Read this article:
https://www.franciscanmedia.org/ask-a-franciscan-receiving-the-host-in-the-hand/
If you are receiving communion on the tongue, you must receive last.
Fr. wears a mask when he distributes communion.
The church opens 15 minutes before Mass begins in order to limit parishioner’s exposure time. Doors close 5 minutes before Mass begins.
While waiting to enter the church, you are required to maintain a minimum of 6 feet between others who are waiting to enter.
Remember to wear your mask at all times until you receive communion. (Do not wear gloves when receiving communion.)
The pews will be sanitized after each Mass. Volunteers are needed for sanitizing. Call the office!
Please pray for us, and feel free to call or email if you have any questions.
