General informationAscham Holiday Academy runs a wide range of stimulating programs open to girls and boys of specific Year groups. Students are able to learn in a relaxed and safe enviroment with trained teachers and staff.

Depending on the program, you may enrol in one or all days in a particular week. Please refer to the program information for description details.

Dates

LocationAll holiday programs take place at Ascham School, 188 New South Head Road, Edgecliff. Follow the signs to program location.

Drop off and pick upAll students attending the programs with the exception of Get Set for Kindergarten should enter the School through the main entrance on New South Head Road.

Year 4 and below: students in Year 4 and below are required to be signed in by a parent/guardian at the beginning of the day and signed out again at the end of the day. Afternoon collection is from White Gate/Wallis Reception building at New South Head Road entrance only. A car line will be operational.

Year 5–Year 6 students: these students are to sign themselves in prior to the morning start and will be dismissed at the end of the day.

TimingThe programs run from 9am–3.30pm daily. Students should not arrive prior to 8.30am or be collected after 4pm. After 4pm a fee per child of $5 per five minutes or part thereof will be charged.

AllergiesAll parents must inform the Head of Outreach in writing of any known allergies and if relevant provide a current action plan with photograph.

What to bring A list of what to bring is outlined under each specific program, however all participants are to wear appropriate clothing, including a hat for when outside, and closed-in shoes. All children must bring their own morning tea, lunch and drinks.

Photo permissionPhotographs may be taken by Ascham Holiday Academy staff and may be used for Ascham publications, on the website and in social media. If you do not wish your child’s photograph to be used, please notify the Head of Outreach in writing.

EnrolmentsEnrolment for all programs is via Trybooking (www.trybooking.com/79055) only.

You will be required to pay for the programs selected using a credit card, and a receipt will be automatically generated, which is your confirmation of enrolment. No other form of confirmation is given. Minimum numbers need to be reached in order for a program to go ahead. If minimum numbers are not reached, you will be informed and provided with a refund. Enrolments are taken on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis as numbers are limited in all programs, so please book early to avoid disappointment. There will be no refunds or credits for cancelled bookings.

All details including special needs, medical and known allergies, and emergency contacts must be completed at the time of booking.

The enrolment period is now open and closes on Monday 4 December 2017.

Program hours are to be strictly adhered to. Please ensure participants arrive, check-in and are collected on time to avoid any late fees.

Enrichment Program Years P–6

Wednesday 13 – Friday 15 December

9am–3.30pm daily$80/day

What to bring: morning tea, lunch, drinks, hat, swimmers (Friday), tennis racquet (Thursday) if you own one, otherwise borrow one of the School racquets.

The Ascham Holiday Academy’s Enrichment Program is a multi-activity program designed to suit all interests for girls and boys aged from Kindergarten to Year 6. Three sessions are scheduled each day with age-specific activities that will support the students’ academic, social and emotional intelligence.

These holidays the following activities will be running:

Art and Craft: Create and explore various skills to create masterpieces. Be inspired by famous artists… we have it all.

Drama: children will learn improvisation skills that will assist them with developing confidence, creative thinking and performance techniques.

Cooking: using measurement skills and step by step instructions students will create a tasty delight.

Maths Mania: engage in a variety of fun games and activities that develop and challenge your mathematical skills.

Writing Workshop: using popular books and different themes as stimulus, write your very own piece of work, and let your imagination run wild.

Sport: develop your gross motor skills as well as your team work in this highly active and fun session.

Swimming: instructional sessions including freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly as well as relay techniques taken by Ascham Aquatics staff.

Tennis: bring your own racquet of borrow one of the School racquets to engage in the active Tennis program.

Get Set for Kindergarten Current Prep and 2018 Kindergarten students

Location: Hillingdon, Ascham School (drop off and pick up from Hillingdon— Octagon Road entrance)

Our Get Set for Kindergarten Program will offer a day program to students starting Kindergarten in 2018.

Students will experience many school-readiness activities that will aid the preparation for ‘big school’. Activities will include fine and gross motor skills, number and letter recognition, as well as art and craft. This is an excellent way to prepare your little one for their lifelong journey of learning. Activities will be run in the Hillingdon Kindergarten classrooms with specialist infants teachers.

Little Legends

Years P–6: Thursday 14 December, Tuesday 19 December, Thursday 21 December

9am–3.30pm daily

What to bring: morning tea, lunch, drinks and hat

Little Legends aims to build a lasting love of exercise through a wide variety of age-specific sports, games and activities that are suitable for both girls and boys of all athletic abilities (all children will be kept in age groups throughout the day). The day begins with warm-up games and throughout the day the students rotate between different sports, games and action-packed activities that will leave your children asking for more. Some of the games include relay races, soccer, netball/basketball, capture the flag, music games and many more.

AHA On Excursion

Years 2–6

Monday 18 and Wednesday 20 December

9am–3.30pm daily

What to bring: morning tea, lunch and drinks.

Transportation: by enrolling into these programs you give consent for your child to travel to and from venues by public transport, taxi or school bus.

Let’s Go SurfingMonday 18 December $110 (includes entry and transport costs)

Day at Balmoral Water SportsWednesday 20 December $135 (includes entry and transport costs)

Come and enjoy the summer holidays with AHA on Excursion. Enjoy at day at Maroubra Beach with ‘Let’s Go Surfing’. Take part in surfing, honing your surfing skills on land and then in the water, as well as body boarding and general surf education.

Enjoy a day on the water with Balmoral Water Sports. Students will take part in windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding, learning the skills and developing the techniques required.

Please take note that students must be able to swim to take part in the Let’s Go Surfing Program as well as the day with Balmoral Water Sports.

This is everyone’s favourite week of the year—spending each day creating fabulous Christmas craft items, making delicious Christmas-themed food and gifts as well as having time during the week to learn tennis skills and develop your strokes in the pool during swimming. The most joyous activity is building and decorating your very own traditional gingerbread house to take home while mastering your cooking skills. As this activity has been so popular over the years, and families often want to build and decorate another to eat or have for decoration in the home, you have the opportunity to purchase additional packs for $40 each. Traditional and gluten-free gingerbread houses are also available to order at the time of booking into this program.

Scary Movie Making

Years 2–6: Thursday 14 – Friday 15 December

9am–3.30pm daily

What to bring: morning tea, lunch, drinks and hat

Ever wondered how a film can scare you right off your seat?! If you love films and you love telling stories via film, then this workshop teaches you HOW. Making scary films uses all the techniques you need to make ALL sorts of films—suspense, action and emotion. Our professional filmmakers will show you techniques in: how to use camera movement, angles and framing, music and sound effects, as well as lighting and performance to manipulate, shock and scare your audience right out of their seats! Have fun behind and in front of the camera. In this workshop, we use iPads and microphones with iMovie to create your group film in one day.

SpeakOut Schools

Why not book your child into a holiday workshop that will teach them a true life skill? SpeakOut Schools run workshops that help kids overcome any fear of public speaking, increasing their self confidence and reducing anxiety. Most importantly, the workshops are highly engaging, interactive and fun—it is the school holidays after all! We use lots of games and activities to help teach the basics of public speaking and the students have multiple opportunities to practise their newly acquired skills in a highly supportive environment.

The two-day workshop for Years 5 and 6 students are tailored specifically to help students prepare for the speaking requirements of high school and beyond.

Our Ascham workshops are run by SpeakOut Schools founder and TEDx speaker coach, Katharine Collins.

This program requires minimum numbers to proceed.

Code Camp Little League—Years K–1Our little coders make their first small but important leap from consumers to creators of tech. Each Little League camp comes equipped with iPads, board games and more for the whole class to enjoy. Using both online and offline activities, create awesome mini-games and learn about coding in the process. It’s so much fun, your kids won’t even realise they’re building new skills at the same time!

Code Camp Spark—Years 2–6Our most popular camp designed specifically for first time Code Campers to build their design, create and build their very own iPhone app! (It’ll also work on Android and web.) Learn ‘drag & drop’ coding with our own Code Camp World (which you’ll be able to access at home after camps for free). This is our most popular camp, which more than 12,000 kids have completed and loved, and where every child aged 7 and above should start their Code Camp journey regardless of their prior coding experience.

Code Camp Ignite—Years 2–6Been before? Continue your Code Camp journey and level up to Ignite! More fun, new coding, harder challenges. We’ll build more incredible apps, with new animations, new characters, harder logic and harder code.... but all the more engagement and fun! We’ll continue on with drag & drop coding, and then during the camp, level up to JavaScript.

Code Camp Blast—Years 3–6For our superheroes who have conquered the Spark and Ignite camps and are ready for a full Code Camp in the world of JavaScript. Take your coding skills to stratospheric new heights with Code Camp Blast. Our most advanced camp is designed for those who have completed Spark and Ignite and are ready to take on the world of pure JavaScript. All the fun and engagement with harder logic, code and challenges.

Minecraft Your Movie

If you love Minecraft, and you love sharing your creativity, then this workshop is just for you!

Using iPads as a movie-making device, green screen technology and your unique Minecraft world, you will lead the demonstration of an aspect of your Minecraft creation, to share with others in a professional tutorial. Your YouTube tutorial will include the instructions and footage about the creation of your world, as well as recorded voice-overs that will be edited into a dynamic and informative video, that you’ll be proud to upload to YouTube to share with your friends and family. With this workshop, you’re sure to become a Minecraft Master!

Have fun, inspire your imagination and creatively apply your 21st century technical skills with Minecraft Masters.

The Sound of MusicalsYears K–6: Monday 18 – Thursday 21 December $345 (four-day program)

StarTime Studios is bursting with the sound of musicals these school holidays and we’re inviting you to join us in this all-singing, all-dancing intensive workshop. This 4-day program will allow you to explore the art of storytelling through movement, song and character work as you learn a medley of showtunes from classical Broadway shows, to the latest smash hit musicals. Our professional and passionate coaches will inspire you and help your musical theatre star shine, while learning the foundations of basic vocal technique, musicality, character development, interpretation of songs, movement and basic dance skills. These elements will all come together to produce a fun musical medley to perform at the end of the workshop for your friends and family. The next musical theatre star is sure to be discovered!

Scientific Spectacular Years K–6

Do you want to see everyday things become extraordinary scientific discoveries? Then come to StarTime’s Scientific Spectacular!

Be guided by StarTime’s seriously silly scientist Professor Dinglesplodge, who’ll show you some wicked science tricks!

You’ll make your own lava lamp, pop rockets, bouncy balls and combine baking soda and vinegar to float balloons without using helium. Scientific Spectacular will give you the opportunity to make your own mini-science show and perform to your captive audience. The magic of science—check it out at the Scientific Spectacular!

Live to Sing & Dance

Years K–6: Wednesday 13 – Friday 15 December

If you are fans of hit TV shows like The Voice, X-Factor and So You Think You Can Dance or you love nothing more to sing and dance to your heart’s content, then Live to Sing & Dance is the workshop for you!

It will inspire your creative courage, build your confidence and allow your performer within to shine! You will get to sing your favourite songs. Inspired by The Voice, StarTime will be running our fun version of ‘blind auditions’, where your mentor will plead for you to be on their team! You’ll shine in singing and dance battles, as well as learn proper microphone technique and the latest in Hip Hop choreography.

Add to this our lunchtime talent quests and final day show for family and friends, and you have an action-packed workshop!

Have you ever wondered how yeast makes bread rise, why egg whites change their character when whisked or why puff pastry ‘puffs’. Join Anneka Manning and the BakeClub team for a fun-filled day of uncovering the facinating science of baking where all of these questions and more will be answered. Lunch will be provided at this workshop.
