Speeches
G reetings everyone!
I would like to extend my gratitude to all of our generous sponsors, affiliates and partners, to the ASEAN community in Australia for their continuous support as participants and volunteers, and last but not least, to the 3rd ASEAN Games Australia 2014 committee which has worked tirelessly and performed beyond expectations and boundaries to make this event a successful one. Without any of you, all of this would not be possible.
As a committee, our dream is to see the ASEAN Games Australia 2014 become the platform on which people from our region are brought together. People who share the same drive to excel in the sports we are passionate about. The main aim of this sporting event, the largest of its kind to engage the ASEAN community in Australia, is to unite the ASEAN community and promote sports participation in 9 globally recognised sports and we hope to achieve this.
MSports, which is the athletic arm of the Malaysian Students’ Council of Australia, Victorian Chapter, plays host to the annual ASEAN Games Australia with the purpose of fostering healthy and competitive relationships through sports and athletic culture. It is an initiative under the ASEAN-Australia Agenda (AAA), and it was initially founded as the ASEAN Student Games Melbourne in 2011, before being rebranded to the ASEAN Games Australia in 2012. This was to allow non-students from the other states across Australia to participate and further strengthen the relationships among the ASEAN community nationwide.
In our efforts to extend our reach to the ASEAN community in Australia, this sports event is in collaboration with the ASEAN students’ peak student bodies, and is proudly supported by the Council of International Students Australia, a new supporting partner. This year, we have cash prizes of more than $3500 to give away to attract athletes to participate as well as vouchers that are up for grabs at the Opening and Closing Ceremony, thanks to all our benevolent sponsors.
The ASEAN Games Australia overall champion plate will also be presented at the conclusion of this event upon finalization of the overall point tally. It has been passed on since 2012 to be in the possession of the student council of the winning country every year. So, athletes, this is it. Now is the time to rise up, excel, play hard and make your country – your homeland, your birthplace – proud.
I sincerely encourage everyone to make the most out of your experience at the 3rd ASEAN Games Australia, be it as a volunteer, an athlete, a spectator. The committee has put in an immense amount of effort to create a strong and familiar ASEAN atmosphere that will hopefully make you feel comfortable and at home over the next few days, while maintaining a professional and friendly sports environment.
These games are a blessed occasion where we celebrate our differences and also our similarities as we bridge the cultural gaps between the ASEAN community. We encourage you to gather all your friends from the Southeast Asian Nations in Australia and bring out the passion in sports together as one to help us realise our dream. With that, I truly believe the notion “Embrace Diversity, Celebrate Victory”.
I wish everyone participating in the ASEAN Games Australia 2014 the very best. Compete and battle with true sporting spirit!
Sheh Tyne Yeo Project Director of ASEAN Games Australia 2014 Director of Msports, Malaysian Students’ Council of Australia, Victorian Chapter (MASCA Victoria)

A Volleyball match consists of two opposing teams, each with six players. Each team will try to score points by attempting to hit the ball onto the ground of the opposing team’s court. Players usually use their hands or arms to hit the ball, but may also use other parts of the body to ‘strike’ or ‘push’ the ball in the game.
For each rally, both teams are allowed a maximum of three consecutive touches. The rally then ends when a team either makes a ‘kill’ and wins the rally, or makes a ‘fault’ and loses the rally. The winning team for the particular rally will earn a point and gets to serve the ball for the next rally.

Rolld Australia prides itself on its family values and Vietnamese heritage. Created over a dinner with friends, Rolld was born of the idea of tapping into the huge gap in the market for a fast, fresh and healthy Vietnamese quick service restaurant.
From its humble beginnings at Goldsborough Lane (CBW) in May 2012 to now a business which hosts 20 stores over three (and soon to be four) states, Rolld has established itself as a leader in its market space in a little over 2 years. Our vibrant, fresh and delicious products speak to the heritage and culture of Vietnamese inspired fare and with our urban street appeal, we present an alternative in the current market.
Rolld is committed to the ongoing education of the Australian public about its core family values and Vietnamese food and culture. And in spite of how large or successful the Rolld franchise becomes, we will never forget how we came to be – 4 friends sitting around a dinner table and bringing an idea to life.
Rolld Australia – your go to for fresh and authentic Vietnamese food and culture.
