I. Background
HISTORY of AWEN: Initiative of Vietnam since 2007, was announced in 6th ACW meeting; an
activity planned in the ACW Work Plan 2011-2015 and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint 2011-2015.
Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council (VWEC) has developed the project proposal on the establishment of AWEN and TOR since 2010.
The 11th ACW Meeting held on 16-17 October 2012 in Vientiane, Lao PDR, finalized and adopted the Terms of Reference of the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network.

finance resource); Partnership: start to explore new partnerships Communication; Commitment of AWEN focal points; Prestige: new Network => difficult to work with AWEN’s
members and partners as well as raising fund from donors VWEC had to contribute for maintain the Secretariat and
secretariat’s activities, cover costs for communication, staffs, consultant cost for developing Regulations, designing logo, etc

II.AWEN Work Plan and AWEN’s key priorities during Vietnam’s chairmanship
Priorities in 1st Term: Establishing and Strengthening institutional capacity; Build up the website/database of the Network; Organize the 1st ASEAN Women Business Forum; Conduct a baseline study on women entrepreneurship in
ASEAN; Policy advocacy to have favourable business environment for
business women; Organize annual meeting of the AWEN Coordination Board; Partnerships with other partners, organizations.
III. Implemented activities: Improving institutional capacity of AWEN
Set up AWEN Secretariat & Coordination Board Set up EMAIL GROUP – main channel for communication AWEN Secretariat keeping in touch with the Focal Points
to implement AWEN activities; Developed AWEN Regulations; Designed logo; Organized the 1st AWEN Coordination Board meeting in
November, 2014, Thailand
III. Implemented activities: Workshops, conference
Cooperating with partners (US-ACTI, USABC) to organize workshops for women entrepreneurs (For example: WS on finance access in Hanoi, Sept 2014, WS on supporting SMEs and WEs to access regional and international markets, Hanoi 17 SEPT 2015…)
AWEN Chairwoman/Representatives participating and speaking in regional workshops and meeting, such as the Regional Forum in Bangkok, Thailand (November 2014); Great Women Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand (March 2015); OECD Meetings in Indonesia (March 2015); UNCDF meeting in Cambodia, April 2015; the ASEAN SME Showcase and Conference - ASSC 2015 in Malaysia (May, 2015);UNWomen Forum in Malaysia (2015)…
III. Implemented activities: Promoting Networking & Sharing information
Informed members information about relavent events, activities and programs;
The 62nd FCEM World Congress 2014 hosted by Taiwanese Women’s Entrepreneurs Association -TWEA); The Women Vendors Exhibition and Forum 2014 (WVEF 2014); The eleventh Asia-Pacific Business Forum (APBF) in Colombo, Srilanka (11/2014), etc.
III. Implemented activities: Promoting Networking & Sharing information
Introduce to members: Mentorship Programme (16/9/2014) shared by US.Mission
to ASEAN;
ASEAN Business Awards 2014 & 2015;

Meetings with other organizations to introduce/ discuss about potential cooperation to implement activities supporting for AWEN’s Members and women entrepreneurship development, women’s economic empowerment..Ex.ASEAN BAC, USAID, ACTI Project; USABC, The Asia Foundation; OECD; ACW in Viet Nam; DFAT, etc.
III. Implemented activities: Organize Annual ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Forum
- Cooperating with DFAT to organize the 1st ASEAN
Women Entrepreneurs Forum (AWEF) in March 2015 - Leaders from State and Government of S.R of Vietnam and
ASEC; - More than 300 delegates

Honoring ceremony 7th March 2015(AWEF) Leaders from State and Government of S.R of Vietnam and
ASEC; 500 PARTICIPANTS 65 Outstanding ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs from 10
ASEAN Member States have been honored;
III. Implemented activities: Researches/Studies/ policy recommendations
Attend and present in ACW meetings and make recommendations:
The ACW meeting in Yangon, Myanmar on 16 October 2014 and ACW meeting in the Philippines, October 2015;other meetings;
Discussed with OECD, TAF about opportunities to implement a Survey on Women entrepreneurs in the region;

Strengthened institutional capacity: Organized the 1st meeting in Hanoi Set up AWEN Coordination Board and Secretariat; email
group Updated changes of contact persons,personnel from each
AWEN Focal points; Organized the 1st Coordination Board Meeting; AWEN Logo, Regulations;

Attending and speaking in > 10 regional meetings, workshops, forums;
AWEN has attracted attentions from many organizations and projects;
Successfully organized the 1st ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Forum and other events.
