Hotel Ranchi Ashok : New Projects

The Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned three projects to ITDC for the State of Jharkhand. These include two Sound & Light Shows

and Construction of a Convention Centre.

The Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned ̀ 500.00 lakh under the Central Financial Assistance Scheme for the Construction of an Integrated Convention Centre (against the total project cost of `852.14 lakh) at Hotel Ranchi Ashok and an additional `538.55 lakh for a Sound & Light Show to be mounted in the compound of the Hotel.

The Ministry has also sanctioned `217.22 lakh for a Sound & Light Show at Shilpgram in Deogarh. The total cost of this Project is `375.22 lakh comprising the State’s share of `140.00 lakh and the Ministry of Tourism’s share of `217.22 lakh.

The three projects are earmarked to be completed and commissioned within 12/18 months time.

National Awards for Excellencein Hospitality Education 2010-11

ITDC has been conferred the National Award for Excellence in Hospitality Education 2010-11 by the

Ministry of Tourism at Vigyan Bhawan on 4th April, 2012.

As the premier implementing agency for the Ministry of Tourism’s "Hunar Se Rozgar" initiative for skill development of youth who are minimum 8th class pass and between 18 to 28 years, ITDC has provided job skills to 1590 youth (as against the target of 1500) during the year 2011-12 and the Corporation’s Hotels are the training

laboratories for the Scheme.

There has been a 100 percent placement of all students for the six courses undertaken at Ranchi. For the current financial year, ITDC has set a target to provide job skills to 5000 youth and is confident to exceed the target.

To make the Scheme successful ITDC has joined hands with NGOs like Khushii, Prayas, Matrix, DLF Foundation, IL&FS Skills Development Corporation, Campus & Beyond, NIPS (Hotel Management Institute in Kolkata), NIAM (National Institute of Applied Management), Desh Hriday Man Development Society and B-Able.

Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Civil Aviation sign an MoU

A Memorandum of Understanding has been entered into between

the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Civil Aviation on 21st March, 2012 with the primary objective of promoting India as a preferred tourist destination in the tourism generating markets overseas as well as within the country.

The MoU has defined the areas in which joint promotional activities would be undertaken by the two Ministries, which include, (a) “Incredible India’ branding at airports in the country, (b) Screening of promotional films on flights landing at and taking off from Indian Airports, (c) Joint participation in Road Shows and Events organized by the two Ministries, (d) Promotion of newly upgraded airports in the country, (e) Collaboration to take forward the

players in the maiden Travel and Hospitality (TnH) Awards 2011 held at The Ashok, New Delhi. The glittering function saw overwhelming participation from the Travel Trade. The awards were presented in 36 categories. The winners were based on an objective study conducted by India’s leading research firm, GMJ. PATWA International Awards

Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) organizes International Awards every year at the ITB Berlin, which

is the world’s biggest travel fair in the world and is attended by more than 7,000 journalists from all over the world and Tourism Exhibitors from 180 countries.

The PATWA Awards are given to recognize individuals, organizations involved in the promotion of tourism from different sectors viz aviation, hotels, travel agents, tour operators and government agencies.

ITDC and B-ABLE join hands for Skill Development of Indian Youth

ITDC and Pawan Hans Helicopter Ltd (PHHL) signed an MoU on 20th

March, 2012 at Heli Power India 2012 (International Seminar), New Delhi.

Under the MoU, ITDC and PHHL will make joint efforts in promoting Tourism, Heritage tourism, Eco tourism, Adventure tourism, Local Darshan, Joy rides and other possible areas under the banner of "Incredible India".

A joint working group of ITDC and PHHL will undertake the strategy and working model to promote these services among domestic and international tourists in India, thereby also promoting Brand “Incredible India”. Various tour

Rozgar’, ITDC signed an MoU on 20th March, 2012 with B-ABLE (Basix Academy for Building Lifelong Employability Limited), a skill development organization and a partner of the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC), imparting skills development courses in various sectors including hospitality, travel and tourism.

The objective of the association is to pool the respective strengths, resources, expertise and goodwill of both ITDC

and B-ABLE for the purpose of creating employability of the youth by imparting vocational training.

ITDC as the premier implementing agency for the Ministry of Tourism for providing vocational training under this programme, will develop training laboratories in its various hotels, provide course material for the courses to be run in Food & Beverage Services, Food Production and Tourism, organize examinations, deploy senior staff for stage inspection of Training programmes and make efforts for finding placement

opportunities.

As part of the Understanding, B-ABLE will deploy its professionally qualified staff for conduct of vocational training, assist the ITDC management in selection process and recruit the eligible candidates for vocational training, compile attendance of the students, arrange inspection of the training programme jointly with ITDC, meet all requirements as laid down under the scheme of HSR and make efforts for finding placements for the trainees.

Indian Road Shows To create awareness about India as a tourist destination, the Ministry of Tourism organised Road Shows in Moscow, Russia and Almaty, Kazakhstan on 22 and 27 September, 2011. The team from The Ashok consisted of Arvind Rai, Executive Chef and Rohtash, Commis-I (Cook).Both the Shows were inaugurated by Hon'ble Minister of Tourism from India in the presence of respective Tourism Ministers from Russia and Kazakhstan. VVIPs and dignitaries, travel agents, travel writers and the media appreciated the cultural programmes and the gala Dinners.On 26 September, 2011 an India Evening Road Show was held at Ukraine and inaugurated by Hon'ble Minister of Tourism from India in the presence of Tourism Minister of Ukraine. ITDC team consisted of Anish Kanswal, Chef, The Ashok and Arjun, Cook, Hotel Janpath.

Visions of IndiaDuring October Beirut, Lebanon was the venue of an Indian Cuisine Class, a TV Show and the gala Inaugural Dinner.On 7 October, 2011 a Training Class on Indian Cuisine was organized by the Ambassador of India to Lebanon and attended by 25 elite members of the local community. To promote Indian Cuisine, a Food Show was hosted on 9 October, 2011 by the Celebrity Chef Chadi Zeitouni along with Gaurav Malhotra, Sous Chef, The Ashok, Anand Singh, Demi Chef de Partie, The Ashok and G.S. Rawat, Halwai, Hotel Samrat and aired live on ‘Future TV’, a popular channel in Lebanon. The viewer had the option of calling the Host of the Show with their queries, which were answered by the Chefs.The Ambassador of India H.E. Ravi Thapar hosted the inaugural gala Dinner at the Movenpick Hotel & Resorts, Beirut for the ‘Visions of India’ mega event. The formal

ITDC's Culinary Voyage...sit down Dinner for about 450 people was served to the VVIP’s and dignitaries from India and Lebanon along with the diplomatic community, prominent travel agents, travel writers and the media who graced the occasion.

Indian Food FestivalsThe Embassy of India in Guanyaquil, Ecuador and Bogota, Columbia along with the Ministry of Tourism, organized the annual “Festival of India”, a tourism promotion initiative from 9-18 November, 2011 and 21-25 November, 2011 respectively. The Festival was inaugurated by Hon’ble Ambassador of India in Ecuador along with Minister of Tourism, Ecuador followed by a special gala Dinner for about 150 people. The team from The Ashok comprised of Shailender Kumar, Sous Chef, Tara Dutt Bhatt, Commis-II and Babloo Paul, Halwai. The Embassy of India, Havana, Cuba in association with the Ministry of Tourism/ India Tourism Office, New York organized Indian Food Festivals at Domingo from 21 November - 1 December, 2011 and at Havana from 5-9 December, 2011 to showcase the Indian Cuisine at the Festivals. The ITDC team consisting of Vinay Dutt Barma, Chef, Vigyan Bhawan and Suresh Chandra, Commis-II Cook, The Ashok were nominated. The inaugural Dinner at Havana was hosted by the Ambassador of India H.E. Deepak Bhojwani. The Dinner was well attended by the VVIPs and dignitaries along with prominent members of the Indian community, travel agents, travel writers and the media. The Indian Food Festival held from 3rd – 10th December, 2011 at the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel and Convention Centre was inaugurated by Ambassador of India in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The team consisting of Rajan Loomba, Executive Chef, The Ashok and Jai Kishan Commis-I Cook, The Ashok served the inaugural gala Dinner for a select gathering of dignitaries and eminent members of the Diplomatic Corps, local community, Indophiles, travel agents and the media. The event received an encouraging response. India Road Shows were held at Damman, Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 7, 9 and 11 January, 2012, followed by gala Dinners and cultural performances. The team coinsisting of Arvind Rai, Executive Chef

and Mehboob Alam, Commis-I Cook both from the Ashok did ITDC proud.The same team was assigned for the Road Show on 8 November, 2011 at The India Pavilion at World Travel Mart, London, followed by the India Evening at ITB Berlin held on 8 March, 2012. On both occasions, the team received appreciations from the Hon'ble Minister of Tourism, India as well from the other dignitaries and guests.The ITDC in collaboration with National Film Development Corp of India (NFDC) organized the India Party at the Berlin International Film Festival (9 – 19 February, 2012) for 400 eminent international film personalities and guests from around the globe. The team comprising of Anish Kanswal, Chef (Frontier), The Ashok and Ashok Kumar, Chef de Partie, Hotel Samrat served a lavish buffet with tandoori / curry dishes and desserts from the North West Frontier Province. Indian Cultural Week was organised from 24-29 January, 2012 by the Indian Consulate, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Jeddah in association with the Ministry of Tourism, India Tourism Office, Dubai. ICCR sponsored a Shehnai and Qawwali troupe for the cultural part of event. The ITDC team consisted of Kirti Rastogi, Chef, AP Girish Kumar, Demi Chef de Partie and Raju Chauhan Commis-II Cook – all from The Ashok. The Indian theme and cusine delighted the guests.The Indian Food Festival (20–26 February, 2012) was held at Hotel Courtyard by Marriott, Paramaribo, Suriname in collaboration with Miss India World Wide (MIWW). The team comprising of Amit Gothwal, Sous Chef, AIH&TM and Naresh Kumar, Commis-II Cook, The Ashok served the guests with mouth-watering Indian delicacies during the Festival. The team's efforts were well appreciated by the Hon'ble Vice President of Suriname.The India Trade Promotion Bureau in association with the Ministry of Commerce and the Embassy of India in Mexico organised India Trade Show in Mexico City from 28 February - 2 March, 2012. It was a multi sectoral event including presenting Indian Cuisine.Mukesh Kumar, Chef, Hotel Samrat was deputed by ITDC to Mexico to cater for 300-400 people visiting Centro Banamex for the event. An Indian Theme was created and specialities from Indian Cuisine were served during lunch. Performances by Indian dance troupes further enthralled the visitors.
