Richard Holbrooke & Kati Martonrichard C. Holbrooke, former chairman of Asia Society, was recently appointed by President Obama as the special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. Ambas-sador Holbrooke has had a long and distinguished diplomatic career, spanning five decades. He entered the Foreign Service in 1962 after college; then served in Vietnam for four years before working on Vietnam war-related issues as a member of the Johnson White House staff. During the Carter administration, he served as the assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and was in charge of US relations with China at the time Sino-American relations were normalized in December 1978. He served as the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. and was a member of President Clinton’s cabinet, during which he was the chief architect of the 1995 Dayton peace agreement.

Kati marton is a Peabody Award recipient, author of seven books, and an acclaimed reporter for ABC News, Public Broadcasting Services, National Public Radio, The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, The Times of London, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Vanity Fair and The New Republic. Ms. Marton was one of the developers of NPR’s All Things Considered. Her most recent publication is Enemies of the People: A Family’s Escape to America; released in October 2009. She is currently Chair of the International Women’s Health Coalition, a global leader in promoting and protecting the health and human rights of women and girls.

Nicholas Kristof & Sheryl WuDunnnicholas d. Kristof, co-author of Half the Sky, is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner who writes op-ed columns that appear twice a week in The New York Times. He won his first Pulitzer as a foreign correspondent based in China, and his second for his columns from Darfur. He also has been editor of Sunday editions of the Times, has co-written books about China and Asia with his wife, Sheryl WuDunn, and has been a pioneer in using on-line media. He has lived on four continents, traveled to about 150 countries, and survived unpleasant encounters with mobs, malaria and an airplane crash in Africa.

sheryl wudunn is co-author of Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, a book about women in the developing world, published by Knopf in 2009. With her husband, Nicholas D. Kristof, she has co-authored two best-selling books about Asia: Thunder from the East and China Wakes. Ms. WuDunn, the first Asian-American to win a Pulitzer Prize, has worked at The New York Times, Goldman Sachs, and Bankers Trust. She recently has been leading a multi-media endeavor for Half the Sky, including a web-based game, a documentary series and a TV special. She will soon return to the world of investing and philanthropy.

Deepak Parekh & Smita Parekhdeepak Parekh is the Chairman of Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC), India’s premier Housing Finance Institution. Under his leadership, HDFC has become a financial powerhouse with its activities diversifying into Banking, Asset Management, Life Insurance, General Insurance, and Real Estate Venture Fund. Mr. Parekh is the Non-Executive Chairman of Glaxo SmithKline, Chairman of the Infrastruc-ture Development Finance Company, Lafarge India, and Siemens India Ltd. He also serves on the boards of Singtel (Singapore); WNS (USA); Castrol BP India; Hindustan Unilever; Satyam Computer Services Ltd.; Mahindra & Mahindra, and the Indian Hotels Company Limited. Mr. Parekh is a 2006 recipient of the Padma Bhushan.

smita Parekh, Director of Mahindra United World College (UWC), has been associ-ated with The Mahindra United World College of India since its inception in 1997. In keeping with the UWC mandate of admitting every meritorious student regardless of financial capability, her primary focus is to support applicants for this unique educa-tional experience by overseeing the selection of students, the procurement of funding for scholarships, faculty management, and UWC worldwide relations. Mrs. Parekh is a member of the Governing Board of the Indian wing of Save the Children International, Trustee of the Save A Mother Foundation, and a Family Counselor at a shelter for physi-cally abused women.

Peter G. Peterson & Joan Ganz CooneyPeter G. Peterson is Chairman Emeritus and Co-Founder of The Blackstone Group, a private investment banking firm he co-founded in 1985. He recently launched the Peter G. Peterson Foundation to increase public awareness of key economic challenges threatening America’s future. Mr. Peterson is the Chairman Emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and Chairman of the CFR’s International Advisory Board. He is also founding Chairman of the Peterson Institute for International Economics and founding President of The Concord Coalition. Mr. Peterson was the Co-Chair of The Conference Board Commission on Public Trust and Private Enterprise and was Chair-man of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Joan Ganz Cooney a leader in children’s education, co-founded The Joan Ganz Cooney Center, an educational organization focused on harnessing digital media technolo-gies to advance children’s learning. Mrs. Cooney co-founded the Children’s Television Workshop (since renamed Sesame Workshop) in 1968 and has created children’s pro-gramming, including Sesame Street, The Electric Company, 3-2-1 Contact, and Dragon Tales, for over four decades. She served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sesame Workshop until 1990 and is currently Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Workshop’s board. Mrs. Cooney has received numerous awards, including a Day-time Emmy for Lifetime Achievement; The Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor and the National Humanities Medal.
