REMINDERS!

- The first book order of the year is coming home today! If you are interested in

ordering please make checks payable to Scholastic and return the order form and check to school by next Friday, September

11th.

Reading/ Writing * D.E.A.R. in our classroom- what does it

stand for, what do you do during this time and how many minutes have we built our

stamina to? * Some of my favorite read alouds we have

had in our class * Quiet 10- what do we do during this time and

what is playing on the CD player * The book we read 10 Black Dots and the book I

am creating- we have created page 1 and 2 * The I PICK rap we watched and the story Mrs.

Warstler told using shoes to help us understand how to choose a “just right” book

Theme * Building our classroom/school community

- Having Mrs. Mason talk to us about rules

- Meeting Mr. Dixon our security guard - Listening to Mrs. Soderberg read us a story

-Meeting Mrs. Keeran and learning about her job

* Creating classroom rules: Take care of yourself, others, your space and use C.A.R.E.S.

Math * My math workbook and where I keep it * My math notebook and talking about where

numbers can be found (What were your numbers?)

* Practicing written numbers 1-10 * Using the number line and the number lines we

made outside using chalk to play the game Monster Squeeze

* Playing the Penny Dice game, Comparing and Ordering Numbers game and Bunny Hop with a

partner

Phonics * The Phonics Dance- what is it and ask me to

show you * The What letter is it? papers we have been

doing to practice and review our short vowel sounds

(So far we have done short a and e) * Building words using letter tiles and how we

talked about “root” words and adding suffixes! (Can you believe it… already in 1st

grade!) ex. cat- cats, nap-naps
